This is a fabulous album. I've played it constantly since it arrived. I love the anarchic feel as traditional values about text and melody and harmony are almost completely overturned. Bravo!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!!!!, 11 Jun. 2012
This review is from: En Gang Og Altid (Audio CD)
I heard this CD today At a friend's who had heard her live. It is totally beautiful in terms of singing style, guitar work and the way the package has been put together. Definitely a must if you like Heidi Talbot and those who are like her. It seems quite expensive on amazon - but it's worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars LA, 2 Oct. 2010
Excellent book with excellent illustrations to the standard expected from Taschen. Is such a big area to discuss within such a small book, but this diversity is handled extremely well and I felt I'd gained a lot of insight from reading it.

4.0 out of 5 stars OS, 2 Oct. 2010
Excellent introduction to the genre with excellent reproductions. My one criticism is the constant reminder that this is 'outside art' and what that means. Feel it is as it is and the work can speak for itself. Did love reading it though.

A beautifully written and illustrated book that is a delight to look at and read. Haven't been to the exhibition yet so cannot say how well it reflects that but am doubly intent on going now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow Stuff, 20 Mar. 2010
Hugely factual book. Love both artists sources and short preparatory remarks. Can and will dip endlessly!!!!! Can be hard going so some knowledge of artists work useful. Excellent brain and discussion fodder and a mine of stuff for the more intuitive.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hm book!, 18 Mar. 2008

Arnold is clearly an expert in this field, but for me he allows his academic prejudices to come through far too often. Come on OUP - isn't it about time we had a newer and more objective analysis of Gabrieli's work?

5.0 out of 5 stars Partch Insights, 18 Mar. 2008
An excellent book that is well researched, informative and readable. Gilmore has clearly gone to enormous trouble to research this biography and this shows both in the way he writes and the perceptive insights he gives into Partch's work. If only more biographies were so honest as well as balanced!

5.0 out of 5 stars Enclosure 3 - WOW!, 18 Mar. 2008
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Enclosure 3 (Hardcover)
Although quite expensive, this book exceeded all expectations. To get the most from it, it's probably a good idea to read Gilmore's biography first or concurrently; although anyone interested in Partch, his music or a less than 'official' insight into the history of 20thC USA will gain much from drifting through this book. I keep dipping and re-reading and find so many insights each time I open it. Just go for it - tis worth every penny and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars wow voice, 27 Feb. 2008
and wow it is! Heard Julie live and bought this album a long time ago, and it hasn't faded. Julie is truly a 'heart' singer who turns the simplest of lyrics into profound experiences.
