5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, 25 Oct. 2012
I have many many art and design books and this is my favourite.
I even spent extra to get a signed copy after seeing a friends copy.
A multitude of ideas for any concept artist, done with great skill.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product, 19 Jan. 2011
I have been using the Cintiq for concept art and illustration for number of years. Quite simply the best way to design. You really should buy this if you draw on computers for long periods of time.
Also serves as an excellent way to plan compositions and colour schemes for painting. Bear in mind you will need to own Photoshop or some other pressure sensitive image creation software.
It's a little heavy, so don't expect to have it on your lap for long periods.
I have it on my desk so it overhangs - you can spin the screen around if you wish, although in photoshop CS4+ you can do that with a shortcut key within the software. Having both ways is still cool.
The pen may seem like it is drifting from the screen in the corners as the screen is set back from the pad, I don't find this a problem at all, as I tend to draw and paint 99% in the central area. You might notice this when you go to close a window and hit the wrong button the first few times! Keep using it and you'll get the hang of it.
5* product - nothing is better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great low level lighting, 30 July 2010
I will be getting some more of these in the future.
They are low level lights, so you shouldn't use them for reading in a dark room or anything.
We use them for changing the baby at night, and just a general mood. The colours are saturated and vibrant, better than a candle by far!

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome concepts, 11 Oct. 2009
This would be a 5 star, but for it not having many thumbnails of how they get to the designs they chose.
Loads and loads of finished designs with a nice cartoon quality finish.
Not as good as the 'skillful huntsman', but as good if not better than 'in the future' by design studio press.
A good buy for concept artists and 3D artists alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique, 27 July 2009
The flight series are lovely books for adults and children alike, I have volumes 1-4. I like reading them to my daughter and she enjoys making up stories from looking at the pictures. A really unique and interesting collection of strange little tales.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mechtastic, 9 April 2009
I am a full time sci-fi concept artist and this has taken the top spot for mechanical design. A step by step approach to solving designs from personal transports to large machines, plus the occasional creature!
It is also very useful for teaching freehand perspective drawing, which is great for turning your 2D orthographic designs into finished artwork.

The book is five stars really - but you might find it falls short if you were expecting loads of great art.
It is mainly a production art book for serious hard surface designers - and a very good one at that. It covers mainly traditional working on paper, but easily translates to Painter and Photoshop. I found it a must have!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best one!, 2 Jan. 2009
I use this tablet for drawing concept art, every day.
It works so well with the spring tip and airbrush settings in photoshop, far superior to the cintiq, as your hand never gets in the way of the image. I use it with a 19" monitor at work, and a 20" monitor at home.
You need a monitor that is roughly the same size as the tablet in my experience.
I will say that drawing on it has taken me about three years to get used to, but now I don't even use paper. So it has saved a few trees too!
If you want to use it for drawing - I would suggest you buy painter X as you can turn the canvas as you work - although the new version of photoshop CS4 will have this feature too.
(inside tip - if you can find and a4 intuos 2 then they are technically the same as the intuos 3, just cheaper and without the annoying buttons you tend to accidentally press when drawing)(you can turn them off btw)

Also, don't buy this if you have a widescreen monitor, get the widescreen tablet version of the A5!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not just for children, 12 Aug. 2008
I have purchased all of the flight series, the cover mislead me into thinking this was one passage on the meaning of flight. It is not, it is a collection of weirdly imaginative stories - each of varying styles and quality. (very varying) I particularly love the wordless ones with the fox!
Not all the work is of the quality of the cover art, but the ideas and concepts behind them are both interesting and imaginative, well worth looking at.
You would like this book if you are/were a day dreamer or an artist or comic book fan. It doesn't disappoint. I like them and I'm 27, so does my daughter who is 6!
