4.0 out of 5 stars Soundbeats Wireless Neckphones: A First Look, 29 Oct 2014
Length:: 1:16 Mins

Soundbeats offers their style of wireless neckphones (model #HBS 760) that both active and passive users will definitely enjoy.

If you haven't seen one of these before: it's a relatively new style of wireless headphones that literally sits on your shoulders like a necklace with the earphones attached to the end.

The benefit of this is that you don't have the pressure of the headset sitting on your ear, over your ear or the thin "sports" earbuds working their way out of your ears without you're being concerned about losing it.

Everything sits squarely on your shoulder. And, if you're wearing this at work, you also have the benefit of removing the earpiece and replacing with ease.

Just below the retractable earbuds, you have the separate volume buttons, on/off, phone answering button, charging jack and indicator light on the left.

On the right, back/forward and play/pause button.

These are extremely light and that's even before you put them on as a necklace.

The sound is good. Not great but a very good "consumer" grade headset that's more than adequate to satisfy the average music lover.

There's no downside to this set. If... if I had to be picky, I would guess that there may be a potential problem with transporting it because they are very delicate and putting these in a stuffed backpack without a case (because it doesn't come with one) would prove to be an expensive decision.

Very good product. B+

4.0 out of 5 stars The eBoot Powercase 5200 for the Samsung S4: A Critical Review, 12 Oct 2014
Length:: 2:18 Mins

We've had this S4 case for the past month and after 4 weeks, the duo wallet case and additional battery performs excellent.

***

This battery case is designed differently from other battery cases.

For instance, the typical battery case has an extended battery that replaces the OEM battery and the manufacturer would provided a different backing to accommodate their foreign battery to the device.

With this eBoot model, the extended battery is added to the phone as a second battery and not a replacement. So, when installing, making the battery connection with the phone's terminal's connectors is critical.

Battery cases like these will give you, from my experience, about a good year of extra battery life before you start to see a noticeable decrease in battery performance. But, when you factor in that you're getting a good wallet case with the extra battery for under $25 (or $15UK) it's a good deal. It doesn't compare to ZeroLemon but you're not spending another $40 for the top of the line case set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mudder's Pen-Type pH Reader- Model "pH 2011": A Critical Review., 7 Oct 2014
Length:: 2:09 Mins

For personal use or professional use, this is a great product to have.

***

You probably won't need to use this often unless you have need to know what a liquid's pH reading is: such as a pool or perhaps monitoring oneself for health reasons.

For testing I used it to test out our pools pH level.

***

Before anything else, you have to calibrate the reader after becoming familiar with the parts. In all, it'll be about 15 minutes from top to bottom.

The set comes with:

* The pH pen
* Two (2) "Buffer" powder solutions
-- 6.86pH
-- 4.01pH

* O-Point Philips head screw driver
* Instruction booklet

***
The fold-out instruction booklet doesn't give clear directions. I've had to go over the written directions several times because of the grammar. There's also directions on the pH's packages that you'll need to fill in the gap from the instruction booklet.

The instruction states that you'll have to use the 6.86 pH and use the screwdriver to match the screen reading to the packet's content.

Afterwards, you repeat the process for the 4.01pH packet.

***

When I was finished with the calibration, I tested it out on our pool and found that we had a reading of 8.95, just about the "acceptable" reading of between 7.4 and7.6 pH for pool water.

I like the fact that this reader is portable, because even if you don't have a pool and you suffer from acid reflux or heartburn, having a pH reader can let you know just how acidic you water is.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Scale That'll Tell You What Should Know. SmartWeigh's "Body Fat Scale, Model SBS500. A First Look., 7 Oct 2014
Length:: 1:08 Mins

I've seen a lot scale in the past 12 months, all of them beautiful and accurate down to the pound.

This scale is different because it'll tell you things that you don't want to know but should.

On the surface, the SBS500 is a beautiful stainless steel and digital display but once you step on it, you're told your weight, Body Mass, Bone density and Muscle proportion.

The set comes with:

* The Scale
* Instruction Booklet, very detailed
* Made out of tempered glass
* Measures up to 440 lbs.
* Large LCD display

The scale can measure:
* Weight
* BMI- Body Mass Index
* Body Fat
* Body Water
* Muscle Mass
* Bone Mass

If you only need a scale that'll tell you just your current weight and nothing more, SmartWeigh has several other beautiful model to choose from, but if you want a more detailed reading of your situation, this scale will help you in your weight-training/ exercise regiment.

This is a phenomenal scale to own.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for smaller screens but with some limitations., 28 Sep 2014
I've had this now for the past two months and it works best on the Windows OS, particularly 8.1 but I haven't been able to get it to work on Mac's OS despite the drivers that's on the disk or from Huion's website.

I've got an Asus T100 hybrid laptop-tablet and I've a couple of art apps installed. It works very well with Sketchbook Pro 6.2.

However, I couldn't get it to work outside of an art program. The mouse icon stays still.

So, it's not an all-around pen tablet that you can use when not drawing like any Wacom tablet or a Monoprice but if what's you're looking for is a device specifically for art, and more specifically for smaller computer screens, then this is definitely a good option.

5.0 out of 5 stars (Grade: B+/ A-) ExPower "Color Ball" Bluetooth Speaker: A Critical Review., 23 Sep 2014
Length:: 7:58 Mins

This season we're seeing a lot illuminating light speakers. The vast majority of the ones I've seen have been lacking. Lacking in quality and design.

The "Color Ball" is as its name suggests, a ball that lights different colors when music registers at different ranges.

My initial hunch was that this product would be as mediocre as a couple I've seen recently. But, the sound is not half bad.

*** The Design ***

The ball is lightweight. In fact, it feels rather too light coming in at 11.5 oz.

Two speakers flank the bottom half on either side, representing a stereo sound.

In the lower back, you'll find the connection department, where you can:
* SD card
* line in/ charging port (micro usb)
* on/off switch

*** Sound reproduction ***
For a "consumer-grade" speaker, the sound is excellent. After playing several songs, I looked past the flashing lights and appreciated the sound from various songs.

The set comes with:

- Wireless speaker
- Micro usb cord
-3.5mm cord
-remote

5.0 out of 5 stars ExPower Wireless Bluetooth Speaker Bar, Model # S7720: A Critical Review., 11 Sep 2014
Length:: 7:06 Mins

This is the best offering by ExPower to date.

***

I've review a couple of ExPower mini bar speakers recently and have found each of them to be of standard fare when compared to other private companies that are offering near identical mini speakers to the market. (Sometimes, these companies are offering the EXACT same one, except the front branding.)

And, jus to be clear these are....

1) "mini" bar speakers and
2) "consumer" (or "budget") quality speakers [as opposed to "prosumer" or "professional".]
3) primarily for outdoor use, not exclusively but preferentially speaking

Having said that, I like this model-- #S7720--A lot!

This is a rugged, outdoor mini speaker bar that has some modifications over their (and other) speaker bars out there are this level.

First, the speaker measures:
7.5" x 2.75" x 2.75" and weighs almost 1.5 lbs.

It's hard rubber and metal casing was designed to be water-resistant.

It features:

* the speaker bar
* micro usb cable
* 3.5mm aux cable
* speaker jack (for answering calls)
* 4-LED light systems showing it's internal battery strength
* belt/ bag hook
* 7000 mAh Lithium ion battery for charging mobile devices
* Frequency range of (only) 40Hz to 19KHz
* Bluetooth 2.1

Over the past couple of nights, I've been reviewing a couple of different audio devices and one of them was a Dell mini speaker bar.

Comparing both the sound and the construction made me like the Dell version substantially less when looking at this Expower version.

Both the Expower and the Dell have a good mid-range sound, both are "bass" heavy or have filters that benefit those who like a lot of bass in their music. There's nothing wrong with that especially if you tend not to like flat music. The downside is the music at the higher ranges (and the lower ranges, for that matter) become distorted.

If you like vocals like Sinatra, Fitzgerald or Streisand both will leave you wanting, but it's with Expower's speakers that there's a beautiful ambient feel to the music and not just a lot of heavy, chest-thumping bass.

In the video, you'll see how songs are interpreted by the Expower.

*** Pro's and Con's ***

Pro's

+ Ruggedly and solidly built
+ a huge improvement over other Expower models
+ Ambient sounding speakers makes music sound like in a concert hall
+ External battery installed to charge mobile devices
+ Microphone to answer calls
+ Aux in and Aux cable included
+ Belt hook and chain included
+ Exquisitely designed and a joy just to hold in hand

Con's

- Only Bluetooth vers 2.1, so you can't go more than 33 feet without losing the wireless connection.

- Dynamic range is less than the standard of 20-20KHz. (Would have been flawed if they manufactured a higher fidelity speaker.)

For all that it offers, I'd love to see the next iteration of this model, people would definitely talk about this speaker. B+/A-

5.0 out of 5 stars iClever FM Transmitter & Car Charger: A Critical Review, 8 Sep 2014
I've seen far too many car chargers to be impressed. I even passed a counter display at CVS earlier tonight where the two port car chargers are selling for $5/ piece.

This one by iClever is a little bit different, it's a three in one device that's a FM transmitter, phone speaker and car charger in one.

The FM transmitter--you plug the car charging plug in the cigarette lighter (this powers the device) then you'd find a station on the dial and you'd adjust the digital display to that same frequency.

Once paired, you can now transmit any audio signal on your phone (or tablet) and have it to play through your car's stereo system. (* This is a killer device if you've got a great stereo system.)

You can also receive calls. Once the device is connected, you can answer a call without have to disconnect your phone from the system. But, it would be a speaker-phone conversation.

And, the device comes with a usb charger, a 1A output. The good thing here is that the battery charger is faster than an external battery.

This is a very good product, especially when considering that car chargers are a dime a dozen. This one is a versatile device to own.

2.0 out of 5 stars Two Stars is Being VERY Generous. Pixnor EZCast: A Critical Review, 7 Sep 2014
I took about 30 minutes of video shots of my trying to get this device to work as advertised and all I was able to get was constant error messages.

***

The EZ Cast is a dongle device that purports to display images, audio, video or streaming to a monitor or any kind of screen that has a HDMI port.

The set comes with:

* The Dongle
* Wifi/ TV receiver adapter w/ an HDMI male
* Instruction booklet.

I should mention that the "Instruction booklet" is about as big as a finger and the writing is almost illegible. This is totally useless, I had to end up going to their website and to Google Play to get the app for my Android tablet and the website to download the driver for Windows 8-- I didn't bother downloading it for my Mac because I already determined it was going down hill.

After the first few attempts to get the receiver to recognize my Android tablet from just 12 feet away, then my Windows laptop right next to it, I decided to take both devices in my office and sit just 1 foot away from the dongle.

It was here that the welcome screen came on but Windows wouldn't connect and only the pictures on my Android tablet showed up. Neither the audio files nor a small video file from Bob Schieffer would play.

The truth is... is you want to show what's on your screen, a company called Cable Matters sells all the cables you need to turn a monitor into a second screen for your tablet or smartphone and you don't have to jump through any loops like this useless device.

BTW, if you do consider just getting a cable, there's a special cable for Samsung device that a little different than other Android devices.

***

An extra star because the picture app worked, still this is junk.
