Good reading but a bit hyped up......, 6 Feb 2011
This is a good story for those who wish to dip their toes into Fantasy reading without too much effort. The plot is there to will the reader into a heroic lifestyle with enemies and intrigues aplenty and the usual pauper into a prince scenario.
This work has been been reveiwed to be on parr to the great and awesome David Gemmell - now I know Gemmells work wasn't hard reading but in all of his books, the second you put it down, it seems your imagination was still there - on the walls of Dros Delnoch - with Stormcaller, it comes close but doesn't quite have the bite.
If you've just read something along the lines of Robin Hobbs assasin trilogy or Steven Ericsons amazing Fall of the Malazan books then I wouldn't reccomend this as it would feel like step back.
But on a positive note - I think - give the author a few more novels (outdside the Stormcaller series) and there is definatly a promise that he could conjure up something special, deep and unpredictable that wil have you thinking about the stories even when you are not reading them.
