3.0 out of 5 stars Okay, 19 Nov. 2014

These are okay, not wonderful and not what I wanted but since I could not use the post to return them and the charge for the other forms of return would have meant that I would only get a small amount of money back I decided to keep them. Do not know why I could not repost them as they came through the post.

5.0 out of 5 stars The second brilliant book by Gordon Ferris, 19 Nov. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book has Brodie ranging between Glasgow and the highlands following the trail of corruption connected with contracts to participate in the regeneration of Glasgow after WW2 and the actions of a group of men calling themselves the Marshals. A worthy successor to the Hanging Shed, beautifully written it conjures up a marvellous backdrop of Glasgow and the beauties of the lochs and mountains. If you have not yet read any books in this series by Gordon Ferris I would advise you to start with the Hanging Shed as they can stand alone but have a more satisfying dimension when read in sequence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, 13 Nov. 2014

I cannot recommend this enough. Brodie comes home from WW2 a slightly damaged man who does not have a compass for the rest of his life so when a former friend asks for his help he decides to let bygones be bygones and give it. The writing is excellent the story is enthralling the pace is masterly. The characters are believable and I found that I cared what became of them. I will certainly be buying more by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this gadget it makes me walk further, 4 Nov. 2014

Love this gadget it makes me walk further! It is easy to use and tells you how far you have walked and how many calories you have burned. The display is customisable to show up to four items on the top screen, I can no longer run but I am sure it would be very useful if I could.

The Care and Management of Lies
The Care and Management of Lies

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing and touching novel set in WW1, 29 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This novel centres around three lives lived at the time of WW1 A brother and sister, Tom and Dorrit/Thea and Kezia their friend and the wife of Tom. It brings into sharp relief the suffragette struggle and the actions of and reactions to the Pacifist movement and, of course, the horror and loss of WW1. The characters are beautifully drawn and sympathetic so that the reader genuinely cares about what happens to them. I have not yet read anything else by this author but this book has made me want to read another by her. The story is simple enough but gathers pace through the book and towards the end you sense the imminence of doom rushing towards them but cannot stop reading to find out what happens next.

Call the Midwife - Series 2 [DVD]
Call the Midwife - Series 2 [DVD]
Dvd ~ Jessica Raine
Price: £7.65

4.0 out of 5 stars A good continuation of this enjoyable series, 25 Oct. 2014

I bought this as I had been out of the country and missed most of the second series. If you enjoyed the first series depicting the life an interactions of a group of East end midwives you will certainly want to get this. If you did not I very much recommend that you start with series one as the characters develop through the series and you will miss some of the nuances if you start with series two

5.0 out of 5 stars Another charming tale by an extraordinarily talented author, 25 Oct. 2014

I love Maeve Binchy and would read the back of a cereal packet written by her! This is another delight allowing you to dip into the lives of people you would like to meet. If you are not already a Maeve fan this might be a good place to start although not as deep an exploration as her full length books it gives you a flavour of her writing and will, I suspect, make you join the millions of her worldwide fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do try this enjoyable tale, 25 Oct. 2014

This review is from: Time's Echo (Kindle Edition)
This is an excellent exploration of past and present in the 'time slip' genre. The two main protagonists are sympathetic characters and their lives begin to twine together in a believable fashion and in a way which keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. The marvellous bonus is the wonderful detail of life in medieval York, I almost wanted to read this wandering around York and seeing in my minds eye the scenes described. I do recommend this book to any reader who does not shout 'bah humbug' at the very mention of time slip, it is a quite superior and very exciting read.

The Fast Diet: The secret of intermittent fasting - lose weight, stay healthy, live longer

4.0 out of 5 stars Essential reading for anyone interested in this way of eating, 25 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
For anyone who is thinking of trying this 5:2 fasting this book is invaluable. It is well written with enough facts to satisfy you and enough humour, in parts, to keep you reading. It also motivates you to give this way of life a go as to whether it works dear reader I cannot say at the moment but I feel quietly confident that this is something I can manage to continue with for the foreseeable future.
