Compared to other numbers in the Osprey Weapon series, this is a tedious and uninspiring read.

Great book on the infamous PANZERFAUST.
Lot of nitty gritty info the history buffs will love. Can be tedious at times to chew through. But great reference on the Faust.

1.0 out of 5 stars Save your money only good thing was the front page pic!, 10 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Very disapointing.
"Contact" by Max Velocity was an informative read, good book one can recommend. Sadly a one hit wonder.
"Patriot Dawn" is his excursion in to fictional writing and trying to jump on the Wesley Rawles "Patriots" bandwagon.
Comes nowhere close. Learn nothing from this story. The story and characters are so shallow and without a hint of adventure or suspense that this book is a complete waste of money. Halve the US goes totalitarian and black hat on the other patriotic half in white cowboy hats, while China invades California and Russia Alaska. Dont say there's nobody to shoot here!
A schoolboys first published essay and he's trying to squeeze money out of it with a cool front page picture.
Struggle to read to end.
Shame he messed up his good writing credentials with this lousy number.
Dont give up the the day Job Max...give us more of your good writing meanwhile.

The Webley Service Revolver (Weapon)

5.0 out of 5 stars Preserving history of the Webley, 17 July 2013
Revolvers certainly arn't as sexy today as they where 100 years ago. Accordingly interest is slack on a subkect like this for most. Still they are a fundamental stepping stone in firearms development.
This little book is a good snapshot of the Webley in time and put's it in to perspective over it's long and distinguished service career, opening up the subject easily to anyone interested and just in time for the WW1 commemorations.
Osprey did us a nice one here...overpriced as usually for what you get though.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good starter on subject, 17 July 2013
Nice Little book on the AK, that gives a quick reference and key data on it's history and development.
Nothing bad to say about it, except the Price...overpriced for what it is, as most Opsrey books are.

Zero Six Bravo: 60 Special Forces. 100,000 Enemy. The Explosive True Story

2.0 out of 5 stars Read better, 17 July 2013

This book sheds some light on the 06B escapade which genereated many unfounded accusations and claims.
It Shows how useless and incompetent modern day Intel actually can be and it's consequences for People working on it in a George "Double" Bush artifical war of unnecessitiy.
I really enjoyed Bloody Hereoes by Damian Lewis...this book doesn't live up to it. It's very readable and a real life account...but you put it down and somethings missing...
Part of the Story just seems to bog down in the wadi of death with the vehicles, especially the ones that dont blow up...this Story never really seemed to "explode" either as promised.

The SAS/SBS blokes certainly wont mince 368 pages of profantiy infused prose on this tale round the campfire. They'll say:
"60 guys went out on Land Rovers and Quads...60 guys made it out sans Land Rovers and Quads...based on pure luck and the fog of war, nothing more nothing less."
And that says it all.

The World's First SWAT Team: W. E. Fairbairn and the Shanghai Municipal Police Reserve Unit
by Leroy Thompson
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £24.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Good read, 26 Jun. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Leroy Thompson's works all have a certain uncomplicated fluidity in their transmission of knowledge, which is very enjoyable.
This book dredges up the forgotten facts and puts them in perspective with the history and culture of Shanghai at the time.
Perfect balance. Not too much background and not too little.
You come away with the essentials you expect and an enjoyable read.
Good read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Closest one can get on paper to actual military training, 21 Dec. 2012
This book is a superb buy for anyone wanting a bottom up education in small unit tactics with a survival or prepper perspective.
No time wasted on usual "survival" subjects. Propper military operating procedures with professional, realistic nitty gritty advice thrown in, born out of years of military experience in both the British Army and US Forces.
Closest one can get on paper to military training. Combination of subjects and knowledge transfer suberb.
Covers infantry tactics in small teams, vehicle operations, patrols, defence, attack, first aid for gun shot wounds...ect.
No theory, only real world facts, all in one handy book.
Can only recommend this book unreservedly to anyone in the survival, prepper library market.
