4.0 out of 5 stars Much better, 19 Oct 2013

This review is from: Queensr˙che (Audio CD)
I reviewed the last Queensryche album, Dedicated to Chaos, and gave it a good review. It was an original album, and has some merit, but in hindsight was not a true Queensryche album. This is. It screams the sonics and progressive melodic rock tendencies that Queensrych pioneerd in the late 80's/early 90's but have failed to so since the sublime Promised Land. For me its like I've suddenly woken up and realised this is what Queensryche should have sounded like the last 15 years. I have however knocked one star off as the production does sound a bit too harsh, and it does only clock in at 35 mins.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alter Bridge Matures, 19 Oct 2013
This review is from: Fortress (Audio CD)
While Alter Bridge improved consistently over their first 3 albums, I always felt that they had too much filler. Furthermore although the albums were good, they felt short of the high standard needed to place them along side the giants of rock. This has all changed with Fortress. The song writing and musicianship are both greatly improved, and there is no filler. Its a very heavy melodic rock record, which is very hard to do to a high standard, but they achieve this with apparent ease. It also has strong progressive tendencies, which could be the make or break of this album. By being progressive it provides a uniqueness that will either be embraced by the rock buying public as a masterpieces, or disregarded due to the lack of patience to allow the multilayers and time changes to settle in. I hope the former.

I bought two of these and neither worked, while alternative products worked fine. I recommend to other customers that they look elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, 30 Jun 2011
This review is from: Ab III (Audio CD)
Just a great album from beginning to end. Its so pleasing to see this band hit it on their third album. It takes a few spins to get it in your head, but when it does its a modern day classic. Great to hear rock music is still alive and well with some younger bands.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well put together but missing a stronger set list, 30 Jun 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
First off, you can't escape the great value for money - 2 CDs and a DVD. The album is also very well produced, and both live and new tracks sound great. Its also an excellent example of a typical SFTSL tour set list, however on the downside is a SFSTL set list. The band has such a rich back catalogue its a shame there is no material from Slang, Euphoria or X. Never mind Wasted from OTTN. Instead we get two covers and minor hit Two Steps behind. However as the recording is from the 08/09 tour it is understandable why this material is missing. Great live album, but could have been a classic with a stronger set list.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, but not great, 30 Jun 2011
This review is from: Somewhere in California (Audio CD)
Clearly trying to re-create their 80s's sound, but do they succeed in re-imagining that 80's magic? Yes and No. Its as patchy as all Night ranger albums, moments of greatness - the lead track, Follow you heart are 2 examples, and moments of very average 80's rock songs - Lay it on me, Bye Bye Baby amongst others. However when Night Ranger do get going, no one beats them for up lifting feel happy rock songs, and there is enough on this album to make it a worthwhile purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars The ultimate Journey fan album, 30 Jun 2011

This review is from: Eclipse (Audio CD)
If you are looking for the Journey of Escape you won't find it here. Few of the songs are short catchy radio friendly tunes. Here instead you will find elongated guitar driven masterpieces. This is Neal Schons record from beginning to end. Their best record since Frontiers. Highlights include Edge of the Moment, Chain of Love, Resonate, and She's a Mystery.

4.0 out of 5 stars A different sounding QR album, 30 Jun 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I think everyone agrees that D2C sounds different to Queensryche albums of the past, but is it any good? Well that depends on what you are looking for. If you want the classic guitar riff driven Queensryche this is not for you. However if you are prepared to allow the band to try something new and different you may be pleasantly surprised. For me its their best work since the excellent Q2K. If you didn't like Q2K you will hate this even more. But if you have enjoyed the band exploring different directions through their career, and you are open minded you might find something to enjoy here.
