If you want action you'll get action. Feel like just another action movie about drugs, guns etc. Nothing amazing if you ask me.

4.0 out of 5 stars A beautifully presented movie, 29 July 2014
A very cleverly directed French movie, addresses homosexuality. The story is about a young woman that falls in love with a few years older lesbian. It portrays the difficulties the young woman faces and have to go through when she realises she is gay. It shows not only her own challenges with herself but with parent, schoolmates and close friends too. It also depicts the friendship and warmhearted people she gets to know, meeting the woman with the blue hair. The movie has sexual explicit scene directed and performed wonderfully.

5.0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece!, 29 July 2014
A brilliantly thought through movie portraying the natur and difficulties of the life of a female nymphomaniac. An old man finds a woman in an alley way. When she refuses medical attention and for the man to alert the police, he invites her back to his place where the woman starts telling the man about how she ended up in the alley way by revealing different episodes of her life, explaining who she is and chronologically portraying her life up to the current time. The old man listens to her life stories with sympathy and with an open mind, referring her stories to his knowledge of life which is of an intellectual character. The film is very verbal and visual and will be offensive for some viewers. The movie provokes several different feelings and provokes moral understanding in a very clever way.

4.0 out of 5 stars Prison life, 6 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
No one is guilty in a prison! A life sentence in an American prison portraying the classic prison environment with violence and gangs. Most people loose hope completely but one man clings on to it 100% as without it, there is no meaning of carrying on living and his hope will set him free.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love & Revenge, 6 Jun 2014
This review is from: Dead Man Down (Blu-ray)
A touching movie about love and revenge with a spice of the difficulty of human psychology. Colin Farell and Noami Rapace are both victims of the carelessness of others. Experience great loss, sorrow and hurt they are leading two very different lives and they both are determined to take justice into their own hands, healing themselves by revenging upon the ones that have destroyed their lives. This is not one of those action pact, gun firing every 2 minutes movie but one that unravels a story slowly which gets you to know the characters and start to feel for them. There is certainly action but a story-telling side to it as well. A very good story with very good actors. Filmed and displayed very well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great artistic movie, 23 May 2014
This review is from: The Sacrifice (DVD)
Seen as one of Tarkovsky's masterpieces and yes, it is indeed worth its fame. It is a very deep film where life, death and mystery is highlighted. Philosophical and religions themes are discussed as well as the unexplainable such as paranormal phenomena. This is a film that will invite you to think. The director celebrates three of his idols in this picture:
Ingmar Bergman - The film is set on the isle of Gotland (Sweden) where Ingmar Bergman lived (Fårö to be precise) and is film by Mr. Bergman's favorite camera man (Sven Nykvist).
J. S. Bach & Da Vinci - The film opens with a footage of Leonardo Da Vinci's painting of Adoration of the Magi accompanied by the Aria Erbarme dich from Bach's St. Matthew Passion.
Some viewers might prefer reading up on the picture before embarking on this films journey.

4.0 out of 5 stars The other side of Persbrandt, 23 May 2014
This review is from: In a Better World (Blu-ray)
Mikael Persbrandt is one of the most famous male actors of modern Swedish cinematography. Having a long acting history behind him, he has made a name of himself acting as Gunvald Larsson in the Beck movies. In the Beck series he is playing the 'bad' cop with very strong moral believes that doesn't turn his back on anyone, pushing boundaries with the criminals and at times acting rather brutal. In a better world (the danish title "Haeven" actually translating "The Harbor") Mr. Persbrandt is playing a doctor working in Africa and a father of two with a broken relationship. His character portraits a very sensitive and warm hearted man that is trying to save lives in Africa and at the same time bring up two young boys in Denmark. The eldest son is bullied in school and one day a new boy in school stands up for him, badly beats up one of the bullies. The boys become good friends but there is a price to pay for the bullied boy in order to keep his friendship alive. The film portraits relationships; the absence of loved ones (dead and living); difficult decision making and their outcomes. The acting and the english translation is both good. Like many other Nordic films this picture has very dark twists too but displays plenty of light as well! A film worth watching.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed!, 15 May 2014
This review is from: To Rome with Love (DVD)
Being a huge Woody Allen fan, especially taking a liking to the movies he plays in himself, most pictures in recent years by the director has been merely average or below average. I keep on watching his new movies in hope that he will find his way back to his epic movies of the 80's. Unfortunately, he does not here neither. It is very disappointing to see Woody Allen acting the same way but overusing his acting skills, completely ruin his character. Even worse is to see that most of the other characters in this movie (both male and female) are acting so closely to Woody Allen's own characteristics, they loose their own identities. One watches the different characters and think that this sentence or this expression is the expression of Woody Allen. You can see that the actors and actresses has been directed by Mr. Allen, admiring this man, start acting and even talking in his way and act in his manners, spoiling their own character's personality. Will we ever see a great movie from this legend again?

2.0 out of 5 stars A reflection of group behavior, 15 May 2014
This review is from: Involuntary (DVD)
Ruben Östlund is here using several short cuts from different social groupings in order to show how people behave in a group. The concept is very interesting and lends itself to vast opportunities to portray the subject. Unfortunately, it is merely a reflection and the different scenes do not link together very well. This could be a very interesting film if there was a more thought through storyline and Mr. Östlund made an effort to tight together the different scenes.
