3.0 out of 5 stars Watch out for Ofcom, 13 April 2014
Bear in mind that these radios, sold as cheap walkie talkies, are illegal to use without a licence. They are not type approved for the UK. They cannot, legally, be used as PMR446 radios, because there is no fixed antenna and the output greatly exceeds the permitted 0.5 watt maximum. They are fine for the amateur radio band, but all of those users have to have a licence and the frequencies on which they can operate are limited. These radios have to be programmed, using a purpose-made cable connected to a computer which has been loaded with the correct software. If you are not a radio amateur, don't buy them. Fines for using these radios illegally are punitive ... and you can easily be caught!

Memorex MKS-SS1UK Sing Stand iPod Karaoke System
Memorex MKS-SS1UK Sing Stand iPod Karaoke System

1.0 out of 5 stars Sing Stand - Beware, 28 Dec 2010
Use caution before buying Sing Stand - especially direct from the USA. The product produced for the USA market WILL NOT WORK in the UK! The USA version operates on 120V. If you plug the USA product in to the UK mains supply (230V), the product will be damaged beyond repair.

Sing Stand is a very basic device, suitable only for amateur use at home. The microphone is of low quality and the sound output is poor - distorted and certainly no good for a venue larger than a bedroom! It does have an iPod dock and you can sing along with the music, but there are other products on the market which will allow you to do this.

Sing Stand is a toy, not a piece of equipment designed for semi-pro or professional use.

2.0 out of 5 stars Burke and Hare, 2 Dec 2010
This review is from: Burke and Hare (Paperback)
Perhaps I was expecting something else from this book. It is a learned tome rather than a good read. It is quite useful, I suppose, as a reference for historical research. For that purpose, it is fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Live at the Max, 2 Dec 2010
I saw the IMAX film of this concert just after it was first released. I thought, then, that the IMAX film was better than being at the concert - the sound was excellent, but, best of all, the picture quality was astounding. I bought the DVD of Live at the Max about two years ago. The sound was passable, but the picture quality was appalling - certainly not as good as I was expecting. I have recently upgraded my system to HD TV and Blu-ray player and thought I'd try the Blu-ray version of Live at the Max. It is astonishingly good in both audio and picture and at least as good as the IMAX film. An advantage, of course, in watching the Blu-ray version as compared with the IMAX film at a theatre, is that the Blu-ray version can be paused for refreshment breaks!
