1.0 out of 5 stars Awful,cheap,nasty garbage, 18 April 2011
Awful piece of garbage that makes me want to puke everytime i see it in my cupboard.Used once.Charge lead would not work, returned it,was sent a replacement, did not work again.Over the course of 8 months i tried to obtain a refund BUT whilst it's supposed to be guaranteed for 12 months...after 6 months with no resolution to the problem i gave up because the company i purchased from said it was costing them too much money to keep sending me new charging leads even though i had asked on multi occasions for a replacement! Now because i had had the item for 8 months and the item had been used (once to charge it up and therefore used once too!!) they refused me a refund and refused to send any more charging leads but also would not now repair the item because it was used for 8 months!!!!! terrible waste of money on my part and the customer services at the company i used was awful! Never again! Plenty of other makes of mobile watches around,i'd advise you seek out one that actually works and make sure that the guarantee is for 12 months before even contemplating purchasing this piece of cheap rubbish!

4.0 out of 5 stars Credo....any formal or authorized statement of beliefs, principles, or opinions?, 22 Mar 2011
This review is from: Credo (Audio CD)
Slated by the UK critics, and fans alike back in the day, for the introduction of two women into The League,Phil Oakeys determination to morph his band from an eerie underground (albeit fantastic) cult underdog into a chart pop phenomenon only fleetingly paid off dividends with the resulting 'transformation' debut 'Dare'.That was 1981/2.
And so,sporadically over the past thirty years or so, The League have managed to attain quite a degree of respect for their ability to infrequently grace us with the odd pop gem here and there despite some pretty awful decision making (Jam and Lewis) and label inefficiencies (Papillon)during the release of their best album since the aforementioned 'Dare','Secrets' was sadly overlooked,a travesty i believe. It was after all,a brilliantly conceived album, one which after the first few listens simply screamed pop genius from every angle.
'Credo' is definately up there with the best of them,i'm thrilled to say.
On first listen you'd be forgiven for thinking this is a dated throwback to their glory days and possibly also slightly 'naff'.Some of the lyrics are plainly and very intentionally naff, some of the music is very obviously drawing on past glories but, therein lies its charms.
This album continues the career rectifying path set by 'Octopus' and 'Secrets'..it blatantly grabs the best bits of everything 'Human League',polishes it with a microfibre cloth and some serious buffing and says,
"Here's The Human League..and this IS a Human League album".
And leaves you,the listener, thoroughly enjoying the experience but still wanting more.
If that was their intention, how bloody genius because, this IS a faith restoring album of class League pop gems.
Naff,yes.Quirky,yes.Charming? Abso-bloody-lutely!
Savour it and pray it won't be another ten years!
One little gripe though...'Get Together' is horrible,it crosses the line between cute and dull and comes out the wrong side! 10 out of 11 is still a fantastic achievement though hey!

2.0 out of 5 stars Where is she?, 4 Aug 2010
This review is from: Aphrodite (Audio CD)
Ok,i just listened to what was supposed to be a Kylie Minogue album but..where is she?
There is neither anything fresh or new about this latest effort, the songs are weak, unmemorable and too,too throw away...like they have no backbone (but then let's face it,she has always been the monkey and not the organ grinder where song-writing abilities are concerned!!....yet believe it or not,i don't hold that against her because her stuff either usually makes me smile or dance me bloopers off so before any of you staunchest of kylie 'fans' take a bird on me, ask yourselves this multi-question and relate your answers to this album.)

Where is the dancefloor majesty of 'Spinning Around' or 'Cant Get You Out Of My Head'?
Where is her trademark whisp of a voice,it seems to have whisped right off here and gotten itself lost in a tinny mess of production?
Where were quality control over the whole project?

You'll say it's great and tell me to stop slating her,i'm not slating her, she's great, this isn't.

I think you'll find YOUR answers buried somewhere amidst your absolute affection for the woman and NOT the music offered here.

This is third rate Kylie for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MASTERPIECE, 5 Jan 2009
This review is from: Kala (Audio CD)
It's not often that i can embrace an album of such diversity as this so whole-heartedly as i have come to do with this,M.I.A's second album,Kala.
I did enjoy her first album,Arular, but felt it sounded a little forced and slightly over-worked (i do still enjoy most of the tracks on it though and would rate that as a four star album).
'Kala' however is a real step up to a completely different level of quality, not better, just more precise, fresher and less laboured, like the whole thing came together as a singular, solid and perfect explosion which was recorded within a week of it's mental conception.
It's a furious and volatile album, thumping beats and crackling distortion with chanting, surreal vocals and a smart, savvy and sparkling production.Intelligent lyrics are well placed in the mix and used to full effect and it makes you want to figure it out more giving the album longevity,i mean, let's face it,she never wanted to be a member of Girl's Aloud, and the lack of bubblegum 'fluff' here is apparent, hence why i feel she included 'Jimmy' as a little respite.
Listen to the intro of 'World Town' and how the programmed beats are so thick and heavy that they punctuate the rest of the music, stopping it,distorting it for a brief second...if this was intentional (and i'm guessing, rather hoping,it was/is),then what a sheer touch of genius...and this album is jam packed with moments like that!!
This style of music may not be your 'bag' but believe me,it isn't,or rather wasn't,mine either....i just know quality when i hear it,and these days, with 'da bling merchants',x-factor and puppets like girl/boy bands....it's time we doffed our caps to the talent that does abound out there,if you only look a little deeper (and had a little more self-respect than to follow the sheep!!!)
Excellent,excellent stuff....

1.0 out of 5 stars Utter disappointment., 16 Sep 2008
This review is from: Rec [DVD] (DVD)
I cannot believe how absolutely terrible this movie was after reading all the wonderful reviews.
I came to the conclusion that the cast, crew and their respective families and friends must be the ones submitting the reviews!!!
Poor script (in Spanish with subtitles by the way -not that that deters me-my favourite movie is Pan's Labyrinth- but i just thought i'd mention it for those that cant abide subtitles),over dramatised and overblown so much that they seem really desperate for you to be scared but ,for me,fails miserably.
I'd also like to point out that the script / dialogue is mainly screaming or shouting, the whole way through the movie and because it's in Spanish it became very discomforting....shame it was nothing to do with the movie itself causing the discomfort.
Dreadfully dismal,be warned...

1.0 out of 5 stars Abysmal, 16 Sep 2008
This review is from: The Strangers [DVD] (DVD)
Seriously scary stuff???
This could only be scary to a child of six,and they'd soon get over it!
So it's supposedly based on true events. If this is so,the reality would have been far more interesting than to bloat out a film with 'artistic license' to the point where it just becomes a tedious yawn fest.
Possibly the most unbelievably poor horror movie I've ever wasted my time on apart from 'Catacombs' and 'Rec'.
Avoid at all costs or 'I told you so'.

This film is 80 mins of the most drivelling piece of tosh i've EVER wasted my precious time on.I want my money back and my 80 minutes back.
It's about as interesting as watching Jeremy Clarkson read a newspaper and nowhere near as scary..honestly!
Absolute and utter tripe.Don't waste your time or effort....
(And i cant believe i was forced into giving it a star rating of one!!! Minus five wouldn't have come close!!!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Sublime,mystifying,soulful and life-afirming...., 20 Aug 2008
This review is from: Neptune City (Audio CD)
NEPTUNE CITY IS A WONDERFULLY REALISED ALBUM.IT'S GOT IT ALL.A THREAD OF A STORY WITHOUT BEING A CONCEPT ALBUM.CRISP MODERN PRODUCTION,RETRO THEMED INFLUENCES,FANTASTIC LYRICS,GORGEOUS MELODIES,NO DUFF TRACKS,IT'S SHARP AND NOT OVER-STRETCHED (CLOCKS IN AROUND 42 MINUTES),IT'S GOT SINGALONGS,IT'S GOT DEEPER SONGS,IT'S GOT ELEMENTS OF JAMES BOND,JENNY LEWIS,PORTISHEAD,'GREASE SOUNDTRACK' AS IF STOLEN BY DAVID LYNCH,BUT MOST OF ALL IT'S GOT THAT SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL VOICE THAT IS NICOLE ATKINS.SHE IS QUITE SIMPLY 'IT' PERSONIFIED...SHE IS THE EPITOME OF TALENT UNDERSTATED AND SHE WILL ONE DAY BE A HUGELY POPULAR SINGER/WRITER/PERFORMER.BACK IN THE 80'S I PREDICTED THE SAME FOR MADONNA...SOME PEOPLE JUST HAVE 'IT' AND NICOLE IS MOS DEF ONE OF THOSE RARITIES.
I WOULD ADVISE CHECKING THIS ALBUM OUT TO ANYONE (APART FROM METALHEADS!!),GIVE IT A DECENT AMOUNT OF TIME TO SINK IN,LKE A FEW DAYS AT LEAST,THE TIME SPENT WITH IT REALLY PAYS OFF AND MOST TRACKS ARE INSTANTLY LIKEABLE ANYWAY,SO YOU'VE NOTHING TO LOSE.
ALSO,CHECK OUT HER VIDEO'S ON YOUTUBE(EVEN THE LIVE LETTERMAN ONE)...SHE IS ONE CLASSY WOMAN...THIS,FOR ME AT LEAST,IS THE BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR SO FAR,AND I DOUBT VERY MUCH THAT IT WILL BE SURPASSED.
BUY NOW,PLAY LOUD AD ENJOY....

5.0 out of 5 stars "Get down, beep beep, gotta get up outta your seat......", 30 May 2008
This review is from: Hard Candy (Audio CD)
Apparently the top four artists ever are as follows :

1) Elvis Presley (never wrote a song his entire career, excellent show-man,
completely gorgeous voice and, from what i've witnessed,
was pretty amazing in concert, sadly whipped away too
early from us.)

2)Cliff Richard (never wrote a song in his life, voice not too bad
,at least not as embarrassing as,like,Val Doonican,
or Barry Manilow, but Cliff is as naff as Marie Osmond
would be if trying to sound sexy on the phone, and,
almost as cheesy as Bombalurina covering a Steps tune,
he is however, still alive,i just don't know if i should
be thankful for that,i'm pretty sure his fans are.)

3)The Beatles (Four blokes from Liverpool, tuneful, cute, great songs
written by varying members but the majority written by
either Lennon or MacCartney, great in concert from
evidence seen, not great voices but charismatic enough,
innovative to the point where nothing since has had that
profoundly affecting effect on the general public. All,
so far of worthy merit yes?Two are now sadly gone, two
remain active and MacCartney's work continues to
,thankfully flourish but not to the dizzying heights it
once did.)

Then at number 4 we have...yes,Madonna!!!
(Writes her own stuff, collaboratively often, with her producers, who have all attested that her input outweighs their own 10 fold both musically and lyrically, she produces her own material, she tours extensively and vigorously, she DOES sing live but when the dancing and entertainment take a forefront she may lip-synch (yet to be entirely proved though). She's hitting 50 and still going strong and still delivering fantastic material,Hard Candy being her latest offering upholding her standard. Her stardom is most certainly not fading as we can see with each single making the top ten in the UK and most other European countries,Japan,USA and the rest of the world.

Above her are six men in total (Elvis,Cliff and four Beatles).
In my opinion,Elvis and Cliff don't deserve their status based simply on the fact that they didn't write their own stuff, which,i believe,is an essential part of whether or not someone has TALENT.So....that leaves The Beatles of which it took two blokes (mainly) to uphold their careers and yes,the beatles deserve their place because i can't deny they were excellent, excellent musicians and the world would probably be a much sadder place without their wonderful contributions to music.
This, then, leaves us with a woman whose career has spanned 25 years,is still going strong,is still as popular and who has, seemingly, only been pipped at the post by the biggest BAND the world has ever seen.

One day,the world will mourn the loss of this great, great artist, like we did when Elvis left the building,or when Lennon was stolen from us appallingly.

Like it or not ,she's up there with the best and long may she, undoubtedly, remain the true Queen of Music, may she one day realise her deserved appreciation....
