4.0 out of 5 stars Music to Chill, 15 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
For 200 songs, this album is a complete bargain. It's nice and mellow with most songs being lyricless and the general music genre being easy listening with a few others thrown in. As said by other reviews, this is pretty much an album you stick in to listen to and relax. Admittedly the songs can and do blend into each other and there are songs I've taken out because they're not to my taste.

Still, if you're looking for some good relaxation music, you can't really go wrong with this -- even if you like only a handful of songs, the album is still at a bargain price.

The Sims 3: Supernatural - Limited Edition (PC/Mac)
The Sims 3: Supernatural - Limited Edition (PC/Mac)

5.0 out of 5 stars Supernatural Success, 27 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The Sims series first started off with magic and supernatural items in The Sims: Makin' Magic. After a rather lackluster reappearance of magic in TS2: Apartment Life, I was excited to see a new EP dedicated to magic and supernatural items.

The game offers werewolves, fairies, witches, zombies, and vampires (if you already have TS3: Late Night which also had vampires it automatically updates them all to Supernatural vampires). Unlike previous magic EPs, this one allows you to make sims as supernaturals from CAS -- no need to hunt down a specific sim to get turned into the supernatural being of your choice. Depending on EPs installed, you can also create ghosts (base game; also allows you to choose type of death) and genies (Showtime). Sadly, there doesn't seem to be any forward compatibility so far so even if you have Seasons you can't create an alien in CAS.

There are six new traits, nine new LTWs, six new lifetime rewards, two careers (one rabbithole, one self-employed), eleven new plants (some of which are used for the ten new recipes), and a new skill, Alchemy. The Alchemy skill allows a sim to mix up potions and choose to use them on themself, throw at other sims, or sell at the elixer consignment shop. Some of the potions available are simple (invigorating elixer, restors energy by 25% and stops energy dropping for six hours) to the complex (turn a sim in to a supernatural -- handy if you have a family pre-Supernatural and want them to become one).

Also, the magic set included in the store (voodoo doll, cauldron, crystal ball, and spellbook) has been upgraded to allow sims to gain the relevant skills in Supernatural -- unless you can get it on a great sale they're not worth buying for the extra perks, but if you have them already it offers a little something extra.

4.0 out of 5 stars Weather comes to Sims 3, 27 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Weather was, by far and large, my number one EP for TS2 and so I had to get it for TS3. The effects of seeing weather across the whole world is immense, as is zooming out to world view and seeing everything covered in snow.

However, there are a few drawbacks: with TS2: Seasons we got a lot more with the weather and seasons system -- gardening and fishing, which were included in TS3 from the start. TS3 instead adds in festivals and seasonal celebrations which you can opt in to using or not (and also, on the seasonal celebrations every sim gets a special moodlet for the day). Some options available in this EP (swimming in the lake, the attraction system, blueprint building) were included with the 1.42 patch, so any player who keeps their game up to date has those options already available. Aside from the weather/festivals/celebrations the game does feel quite light on details, but that may be because of how much was added in to TS2 along with seasons.

However, saying that, this is a good EP for the sims player who is longing for seasons in their game. Seasons is one of those game-changing EPs as the effects can be seen right from the start, and unlike TS2 season length can be changed and edited, and a season or two can be completely removed. Various types of weather (snow, hail) can also be removed, and these options do seem to stick on a per-save basis rather than being global options.

Sonic Generations (Nintendo 3DS)

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent Enough, Good Fun, 27 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I've been sceptical of Sonic games recently, given their poor performance, but this was asked for as a gift and has been good enough. It may not hold a candle to some of the best games in the series, but it has so far been fun to play and a decent enough game for the 3DS.

Each level has two acts: Act 1 with Classic Sonic in a 2D side-scrolling level; Act 2 with Modern Sonic in a 3D 'adventure' level. The controls between the two differ thanks to their different abilities (for example, Modern Sonic can do a homing attack) so at least initially it may take some time (and a death or two) getting used to how the two control. The boss levels are a bit unusual, starting off with a race against an enemy before Act 2 opens up for the actual boss fight -- initially I thought the race was the boss fight.

Gamers who've been playing the Sonic series for many years will see a lot of nods and call-backs to older games in the franchises; not just the level design but also some elements inside the levels (camera facing backwards while you're running away from something: Sonic Adventure; chaos emerald catching: Sonic Heroes). If you only have the option to play on a 3DS and have a Sonic fan in the house, this is at least worth a look; if you have other consoles which this game was released for I'd go along with other reviewers and say to get it on a different console.

5.0 out of 5 stars High-Tech and Multi-Function, 27 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This microwave offers grill and convection oven settings, offering many more options to cook food than a more typical microwave. There are a few drawbacks (despite the high rating I've given it): the fan when food has finished cooking is quite loud and obtrusive, but unless food had been cooking for a long while this cuts out fairly soon. Also, because of it offering grill and convection oven options, there are a couple of accessories which you'll need to find space in the kitchen for.

However, been working excellently so far and a good buy at the cost.

Crabtree & Evelyn Nomad Traveller Men's Gift Set
Crabtree & Evelyn Nomad Traveller Men's Gift Set

5.0 out of 5 stars Bought as a gift, well received, 27 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This was bought as a Christmas gift, and was received well. It is a travel-sized kit (think of the size of items you'd be able to take on to an aeroplane) with a nice-looking bag which can be reused once the items inside have been used up. Crabtree and Evelyn do offer full-sized items of what's included on their website so if this is well-recevied you can buy more of a specific item without needing to continue buying the travel kit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Daft Punk Is A Great Fit, 6 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Tron: Legacy (MP3 Download)
Only recently become a fan of Daft Punk's work, but upon hearing "Derezzed" for the first time I needed to track down the soundtrack. This works very well as a soundtrack to Tron: Legacy but also as music to listen to separately from the movie. Some songs are easily recognisable and placable ("Fall") while others a little more subtle, but overall it makes a great movie soundtrack album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compact But Has All You Need, 6 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Divided up in to sections for the year -- it goes through what you need to do each month but not only that, it divides up the tasks per month in to gardening "types". I use this primarily as a tool for food gardening so other sections aren't useful for me, but thanks to the way this book is laid out I can easily skip past them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Soundtrack -- Bit of A Shame it's the US Version, 4 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Saw TLK at the Lyceum Theatre earlier in the year, and it was brilliant. After debating a little between this and the movie soundtracks, I bought this one, and I'm glad I did. Some of the songs are new additions to the story ("The Lioness Hunt"; "Chow Down") and "They Live/He Lives In You" is brought over from TLK 2/Rhythm of the Pride Lands. Some of the other songs ("Grasslands Chant") contain music and lyrics from background songs from the original film.

I would have loved this even more if it was the UK original cast singing, but I guess there wasn't much point in releasing two English-language versions of the same songs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Strawberry Snack, 4 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
These have a nice strawberry taste, although considering the size of them you can easily eat a whole pack before you realise (especially when compared to other dried berries in the Forest Feast range)! Because of their size I chop up strawberries in to smaller pieces which, so long as I don't wait too long in between cutting and eating, seems to work fine.

Decent enough to snack on on their own, but probably best as part of a berry mix or (chopped up) and using as a cooking ingredient.
