WALKWAY TOPSHELF CONTENT
Walkway seem to be struggling for direction, which path should they choose.
The album is not nasty enough for the top-shelf, a better position would be somewhere in the middle. With their identity crisis the streets won’t be paved with gold. They are at a crossroads and I do not want to kerb their obvious talent and enthusiasm.
Take the opener, One Touch Too Much, it should grab you by the balls but it is too polite. The singer crackles when he should crunch, the guitar should hit you like a runaway train but it chugs like Thomas The Tank Engine. There is a lack of spark aggression in the production something I doubt is missing live. The songs meander when they should swing and swerve.
Wasted Time is an excellent ballad with the Lenny Wolf like vocals really hitting the mark. This track really highlights the faults in this record as it shows that the rockier tracks simply don’t rock enough. The songs need greater variety of dynamics and drama to really achieve the potential.
Walkway need to decide who they want to be, The Treatment, The Answer, Rival Sons, Temperance Movement or even Wolfmother, have a niche Walkway need to find theirs and stop sitting on the fence.
Overall vocals should rage when required and the guitarist should punctuate with precision and power.
I think the band are definitely on the right track and have a distinctive sound, that distinction needs to be elevated for them to achieve success.
Remember It is a jungle out there, not a garden centre!
An enjoyable pleasant listen 3/5
