3.0 out of 5 stars MISPLACED HUMOUR, 30 Aug 2008
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Life Expectancy (Paperback)
The concept of the book is good - a baby born with his grandfather predicting five dire days to come in his life. But as so often with Dean Koontz he tries too hard to inject humour, and it is inappropriate. For instance, here he has his two protagonists, a man and woman, in the hands of a madman who is intent on blowing their brains out. Are they scared? Do they show terror? Are they wetting themselves? No, they exchange witty banter and silly jokes that would have been better left in the school playground. If a thriller HAS to have humour, and I find that debatable, at least make it believable and appropriate to the situation.

2.0 out of 5 stars TOO LONG, TOO TEDIOUS, 22 Aug 2008
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Tommyknockers (Paperback)
The book starts out promisingly enough with a female novelist unearthing a spaceship buried on her land. But then King dissolves into hectares of verbiage that don't advance the story one iota. You could take out whole chapters and no one would notice, because the plot doesn't advance an inch in that time. Add to that King's customary infatuation with scatology and what you have is an utterly tedious piece of work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant but for spam filtering, 27 Feb 2008
I can't speak highly enough of this application except for one rather major point. Whatever you do, don't allow the program to filter your emails or you'll find important messages being deleted. I found that even on the lowest setting, my eBay and Amazon payments were being deleted as spam, and other important messages relating to my business were also dumped into the spam folder. This is irritating and potentially disastrous. As a result I have had to disable the spam-filtering process. That apart, the program does its job quietly and efficiently, and is by far the best combined antivirus and firewall I have ever used.

The Afterlife: An Investigation into the Mysteries of Life After Death
The Afterlife: An Investigation into the Mysteries of Life After Death
by Jenny Randles
Edition: Hardcover

2.0 out of 5 stars Not really scientific, 27 Dec 2007
A fair overview but by no means scientific, as this isn't really an investigation so much as a regurgitation of what has been printed elsewhere. I also noticed a number of factual errors and a number of surmises that are not borne out by those who really have conducted investigations. Some of the examples of phenomena given are extremely lightweight and are accepted at face value, when they beg many questions. The authors come to no conclusions but leave the reader to make up his or her own mind. Unfortunately, the 'evidence' offered goes nowhere close to being sufficient for this to be a realistic option.

1.0 out of 5 stars Would not work, 9 Oct 2005
This review is from: Disk Director Suite 9.0 (CD-ROM)
When I installed this program it began by crashing my computer, then would not create a partition from Windows. Acronis advised me to try creating the partition from an emergency boot-up disc instead. I tried this with the same result. After some huff and puff Acronis finally paid me a partial refund. Not impressed at all with this company or its product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ignore the moaners, 3 Sep 2003
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is the finest antivirus program I have used, and also the easiest to install and configure. Ignore those who have written about the program being difficult - the interface couldn't be easier. All you have to do is put ticks in boxes, all of which are there anyway by default.
