Girls and Technology Matter, 4 Oct 2012
Great book for young girls considering their career choices, companies looking to improve their male:female employee ratio, and educational institutions looking to revamp their approach to tech ed.
Female consumers represent a financial opportunity greater than the GDP of China and India combined. Bllions of consumer electronics products, namely mobile phones, will be sold over the coming years and making those products appealing to female purchasers will matter to many companies. One important way to influence that these poducts are appealing is to ensure females are involved in the product creation and delivery processes.
Belinda's book gives a very clear outline of the issues we face in ensuring more females choose a career in technology, outlining ways in which educational institutions can rethink their approach to technology education, as well as a practical outline of how companies can start to creat an appealing work environment for female employees and retain them over the long term. No doubt the issues faced are broad and complex but this book is unique in that it attempts to simplify the issues and give practical solutions to get started on solving this very real problem.
