If you're a tech startup CEO and you don't read The Hard Thing About Hard Things, you're an idiot. Is that clear? :-)

A brilliant tour of the Amazon story and founder, Jeff Bezos - probably the best CEO in technology today. Looking forward to the sequel in 10 years, as Amazon's best years may still be ahead.

The Marketer is dead. Long live the Growth Hacker. Finally, a discipline already engrained in many of the most successful startups gets its own Job Title.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Really Enjoyed This, 31 Aug. 2013

It's a very feel-good book, but not in a remotely trite or predictable way. The major them is Death, which I have to say, seems far less frightening after reading this.

I'd highly recommend this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 6 Sept. 2003
This review is from: Shadowmancer (Paperback)
I too am a forty-something with a love of children's literature - more of a Pullman fan than Rowling, perhaps. However, I'm sad to say that this was very disappointing. It's a barely disguised pitch for Christianity, complete with patronising sermons throughout. No surprise that the author turns out to be a Reverend!
If it's proselytising you want, good old CS Lewis did it infinitely better in the classic Narnia books. And the plots are better too.
I really couldn't bring myself to finish it. Even if you can ignore the attempt to convert you, the plot simply isn't compelling.
Having said that, my 10 year old son thought it was OK (not great, it has to be said) and he's the intended audience. But personally, I'd prefer him to be reading books that lead him to question (like Pullman) or merely entertain, than propaganda attempts like this.
