The Legend of Frog
The Legend of Frog
by Guy Bass
Edition: Paperback
Price: £5.94

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious and engaging book, 20 Dec 2014
This review is from: The Legend of Frog (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Seven year old grandson is in frog heaven! He has been raised on Harry Potter, Star Wars, Dr Who and the Goodies by his parents, and he is a keen amateur pirate - so I knew this book would be right up his alley. The wonky spelling of Frog has been a particular source of hilarity, along with the Catastrophe Pants (he wants me to make him some!). And the surreal adventures of Prince Frog with his stick and his trusty sheep/steed, against the invading aliens, with the help of the weather-controlling rarewolf have had him enthralled and giggling from the first chapter to the last.

Clinical Paediatric Dietetics
Clinical Paediatric Dietetics
by Vanessa Shaw
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £74.99

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent text and reference, 20 Dec 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a comprehensive text and reference book for any serious student or practitioner of paediatric dietetics. As well as the book itself there is also a companion website available which contains printable Powerpoints or PDFs of the book's tables, figures and references as well as useful links and further reading.
Each chapter has been written by an expert, UK-based practitioner in that particular area and comprehensively covers the subject of the chapter, in great detail, including the use of tables, figures and learning points as well as further options for personal research for further information.
From the introduction to the first chapter (in Part 1 which covers Principles of PD):
"This text provides a practical approach to the dietary management of a range of paediatric disorders. The therapies outlined in Parts 2 (Nutritional Support in Intensive Care) and 3 (Clinical Dietetics) describe dietetic interventions and nutritional requirements of the infant, child and young person in a clinical setting, illustrating how normal dietary constituents are used alongside special dietetic products to allow for the continued growth of the child whilst controlling the progression and symptoms of disease. Nutrition for the healthy child and nutritional care in the community is addressed in Part 4 (Community Nutrition)."
It might be practical in approach, but each chapter is also comprehensively, scientifically validated and referenced and gives detailed clinical background to back up every fact and recommendation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of creative fun and laughter, 20 Dec 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a super little book full of fun, creativity and surprises. You can use it right way up, upside down and sideways. You can draw through the holes and you can even fold the pages - and make and change pictures in all sorts of weird and wonderful ways. It makes suggestions but also leaves the way clear for a lot of imagination and creativity as well. My young grandson adores it and can't wait to show me each new, hilarious creation. Great fun!

A Room Full of Chocolate

3.0 out of 5 stars A gentle read introducing difficult subjects..., 20 Dec 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
A gentle, enjoyable read for young teens and pre-teens. Touches on a number of major life events that young people may encounter - but in a way that will not cause distress. I good book for opening up discussion around issues like cancer and bullying - and judgement and reconciliation. And, despite it being about a young girl whose mum has breast cancer, it has an honest, but positive ending: reconciliation, joy and hope for the future.
I note that, on the cover, it is being compared to 'Goodnight Mr Tom' - but they are having themselves on - it is not even in the same ballpark. This book is very lightweight and 'North London middle class' in tone and content. Goodnight Mr Tom Is pure class all the way and infinitely better on every level.
But, as a gentle read to introduce difficult subjects, it is a nice opener.

Another absolutely superb album from this group of amazingly talented people. Voices that just soar - and arrangements that completely knock your socks off. Best song, IMO is Papaoutai - and have a look at the video on their youtube channel - fabulous. Just love them and their music. More please!

5.0 out of 5 stars Angels I Have Heard on Here..., 16 Dec 2014
This review is from: That's Christmas To Me (Audio CD)
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful... These guys can SING! They are the best a cappella group I have ever heard - their voices, their harmonies - just everything about them and their music is absolutely beautiful. They are all amazingly talented. If I had to pick one - it would have to be Mitch (the little furry one) - he has the voice of an angel. Having seen some of their Superfruit vlogs on youtube, I suspect his halo is a little green around the edges - and he is hilarious, but my goodness what a voice.
On this album they do amazing arrangements of old and new Christmas songs. Mary Did You Know is just lovely - and That's Christmas to Me is also very special - all in all it is really just the most beautiful album. And watch out for Let it Go at the end - and then find their video of Let It Go on their Superfruit channel - it is hilarious.
I think they are absolutely spectacular and I cannot recommend their albums highly enough.

Skil Circular Saw 5740 CD (700W, 130 mm)
Skil Circular Saw 5740 CD (700W, 130 mm)
Price: £47.96

5.0 out of 5 stars Small and mighty, 16 Dec 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
OK - I have to say first up that this is my first circular saw. Have always done my own DIY and always used one kind of hand saw or other when any sawing has been required. Sadly I am pretty rubbish at anything big, or requiring any kind of accuracy, but I just tidied it up afterwards.. Also, I am normally very wary of anything hand-held, with a motor in it, in case I do myself some harm.

But, I am happy to report, THIS handsome little chap is the answer to a maiden's prayer. Small, so not too heavy to manage if you are not big and strong. It has super, easy-to-understand instructions that even I could get my head around - and which took away all my nervousness. It also has a brilliant guide rail on the front to help you cut in a straight line (reminded me of my sewing machine) - invaluable for people like me who can't even cut a straight line with scissors! It was a revelation to actually cut my very first straight piece of timber without having to plane and sand off the lumps and bumps. It also has a very handy dust port that you can connect up to your vacuum cleaner so as to prevent making a mess everywhere - which is a very practical and welcome idea.
Now that I have this lovely Skil Circular Saw, I can see me doing a lot of projects in the garden next year (far more than I would otherwise have attempted) - and, as I am planning to do a picture framing course as well, this little beauty is going to come in very handy indeed.

Cole & Mason Wood and Glass Croft Wooden 12 Jar Herb and Spice Rack
Cole & Mason Wood and Glass Croft Wooden 12 Jar Herb and Spice Rack
Price: £49.96

4.0 out of 5 stars Classy set, classic herbs and spices., 16 Dec 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is certainly a high quality, beautifully crafted and very attractive herb and spice rack. It would enhance any kitchen - and would make a beautiful gift - particularly a wedding gift.

It holds 12 jars - all filled with the manufacturer's choice of herbs and spices. And this, really, is the only place it falls down slightly. You don't get to choose which herbs and spices you get. The list is: Basil, Chilli Flakes, Cinnamon, Coriander, Fennel Seeds, Marjoram, Mint, Oregano, Parsley, Rosemary, Sage and Thyme. Which is, to be honest, a good, all-round basic set.
But to appeal to the big foodie market out there I think they missed a trick by not allowing people to choose their own combination from a wider range. Or perhaps, by giving the option to have some or all jars empty, along with blank labels, for people to purchase their own herbs and spices - or even grow and dry them, for that matter. Folks could then perhaps opt for a set of each - one basic - one DIY! That would be perfection!

Challenge North Atlantic Salmon Oil, 250 ml
Challenge North Atlantic Salmon Oil, 250 ml

4.0 out of 5 stars So far, so good - my cat likes it., 15 Dec 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I have a much-loved elderly cat, whose mobility is beginning to get wobbly, and who has been suffering with miliary dermatitis for years, as a result of flea infestation when he was living rough, before I adopted him.
I have great hopes for this product, as little else has helped him for more then a short time. So far, we are off to a good start - he loves it! He has only been having it for a few days, so I cannot report on its efficacy as yet, but I will update my review when his body has had time to respond. Hoping very much this is going to be the solution to this long-standing problem for him.
It is 100% salmon oil and, quite naturally, smells fishy - but not unpleasantly so. It is in a plastic bottle, so breakage in the post is not an issue, and it just needs to be kept in a dak cupboard with the rest of his food, so not storage drama either. So far, so good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality for an excellent price., 11 Dec 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I don't know why there is any guilt attached to the name of this product - it deserves nothing but praise. Excellent price and works beautifully - what more can you ask? There are folks who will charge you a fortune for something which is of the same quality, so don't feel any guilt whatsoever in spending much less of your money on this excellent cable instead. It is well made and sturdy and worth every penny.
I've just purchased a new blu-ray player and was very glad to have this cable to connect it to the television. There is absolutely no comparison between this set-up and my old DVD player + scart lead. I could not be more impressed.
