4.0 out of 5 stars Nice little kettle, works well, could do with a pop-up lid., 14 Aug. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
A neat little kettle suitable for 1 or 2 people as the capacity is only 1.5L. I love the smooth shape and sturdy handle - and that it is meant to be rust-proof. I also like that the element is hidden under the bottom of the kettle, so the inside is all smooth surfaces, which has to make de-scaling and cleaning a bit easier than usual, and that the cord coils under the base, so you only unwind the length you need. Less in love with the lack of a pop-up option for the lid. That could be a bit of a health and safety issue for some people, I suspect. The on/off switch is at the bottom of the handle, which I found a little odd as well. Works fine - I just prefer them at the top.
The instructions are a bit of a pain - like most these days it is all those dratted pictograms. Finally worked them all out but it took a pair of strong glasses and a bit of patience..
All that said, the kettle works very well. Relatively easy to fill, boiled fairly quickly - does what a kettle should do. I think it is pretty good. -1 star for the lid not popping up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great idea that the mozzies will hate., 13 Aug. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I really like these patches. Mozzies love me - they think I am a 5-star restaurant. And I am dreadfully allergic to their bites. I am also sensitive to a lot of chemicals and scents. But I am very pleased to report that the only ingredients in these patches are Eucalyptus oil and Citronella oil - and they are fine for me. And they work!
Break the internal microcapsules in one of these tiny little miracles, to release the oils, then whack it onto your clothing or near to you (by the bed is a favourite of mine) and you are then surrounded by a little cloud of essential oil aroma - which, to mosquitoes is a horrible pong, that they will avoid like the plague. Job done.
I love them! I have even put a couple up by the window to discourage the little monsters from getting in the house in the first place. So far, so good...

5.0 out of 5 stars Sustained release Glucosamine - great idea for a well-respected product., 13 Aug. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Glucosamine has a very good reputation for easing the pain and supporting healing of painful joints. I've not used it before but have heard very good things from friends who have, so I am very pleased to have an opportunity to put them to the test, as my knees have been giving me a lot of trouble lately, thanks to a childhood replete with sports injuries.
I can report that these tablets don't contain loads of unknown chemicals, just the Glucosamine itself and what appears to be the bare necessities to get it to hold together in tablet form and to allow slow release. As these tablets are sustained release you get the glucosamine being released all day - not only from your stomach, but as it travels right through your GI tract, the glucosamine will be released and absorbed by your body - so no one digestive process will have sole influence on how much actually gets into your system and this method is meant to prevent tummy issues as well. And with the release of glucosamine into your system being continuous, it has to be a good thing for maintaining the good works being performed by the glucosamine as it will keep the level of it more even throughout the day.
One thing I can report already from personal experience is that the tablets are really quite large. So you will need a big drink of water to get them down. And you are meant to take them with food. Always read the small print.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product in a practical, pocket-size roll-on., 12 Aug. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a nice, convenient little solution to the irritation of insect bites - and it is not over-packaged, which was nice to see. AND the blister pack was easy to open - a complete revelation! Normally you need a chainsaw to get into them.
The little roll-on fits in your pocket, has a nice design that makes it easy to use and it has a number of natural oils in the formula that are good for dealing with bug bites and are kind to the skin.
However. I am one of those people who are sensitive to some chemicals - usually the ones in perfumes and skin care products. I get an instant headache just from the smell. And, sadly, it was the case with this 'After Bite' solution as well. As soon as I opened the package.. Very disappointing, as we have a few mozzies around here, who think I am delicious, and their bites give me trouble for days.
But I am happy to report that other family members are not affected as I am, and have used it to good effect.
Note, though, that it says (in microscopically tiny print) on the enclosed information not to put After Bite on broken skin. So if you (or your kids) have been giving your bites a good old scratch and have broken the skin - don't put this on it. Always pays to read the small print - even if you need a microscope!
All in all it seems like a good product and a very good design idea for the container. Just be aware, if you have chemical sensitivities, that it may not suit you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A superb resource and text to help to develop skills and confidence., 11 Aug. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Raspberry Pi is a fabulous way for anyone to learn the basics of both working with hardware and learning the basics of programming. Inexpensive and small - it is an ideal platform from which to develop skill and proficiency in this vastly important field of knowledge. This excellent book is a superb guide and text for anyone intending to get to grips with their Raspberry Pi - and for any parent who has a child who is embarking on this learning journey. By the time you have worked your way through this book, you will have gained tremendously both in expertise and confidence - both of which are eminently portable into further exploration and study of other systems.

4.0 out of 5 stars Insightful, inspiring - and just a little irritating..., 11 Aug. 2015
This review is from: I Can See Clearly Now (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Another insightful book from one of the stars of the personal development world, Dr Wayne Dyer.
Dr Dyer shares various events throughout his life and looks at them from the perspective of a wisdom-seeker, aiming to understand and to heal the past - and to learn and grow in wisdom and compassion. His story starts in 1941, when he was 18 months old and his mother had just escaped from a dreadful domestic violence situation, and it comes to a conclusion in 2012, with the description of a wonderful and uplifting time that just preceded the writing of this book.
The main way most of us learn our life lessons is by personal experience - but books like this, where someone with real personal insight shares their own stories and conclusions, can be very helpful both for making sense of our own journey and for giving validation to those insights we have arrived at by ourselves. Most of us have no guru or teacher to guide and advise us and so this sort of book can be of immense value in supporting our personal learning.
I have to say, though, that I am not a big fan of Dr Dyer's writing style. It is about as subtle as an air raid. He is constantly big-noting himself and name dropping - and if I have to read the phrase 'I can see clearly now' one more time I think I will throw the book through the window! He uses it SO often it just gets on your nerves after a while. So I have deducted one star.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great quality, soft touch, bright and cheerful., 10 Aug. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is an excellent quality duvet cover and pillowcase set. 100% cotton and soft to the touch (like all bedding and towels, you need to wash it before you use it), it certainly feels lovely when you snuggle into bed.
It is very easy to put the duvet cover on - it is a good size and went on the duvet with no problems. Love that it has button closures at the bottom. Much more sturdy and upmarket than poppers, if slightly more faff to do them up. Pillow case was fine for an ordinary pillow, so no problems there. As for the colours and design - this is always going to be about personal taste. I quite like it, to be honest - and my grandson adores the colours and thinks the design is very manly! So there you go. If you like green, black and white geometric design - or if your football team does - this could be the one for you!
I've had a few things from the AmazonBasics range now and not once have I been disappointed. All have been good quality and fit for purpose - and this little duvet set is no different. Recommended.

AmazonBasics Apple Certified Lightning to USB Cable - 3 Feet (0.9 Meters) - White
AmazonBasics Apple Certified Lightning to USB Cable - 3 Feet (0.9 Meters) - White

5.0 out of 5 stars Good quality, good value., 10 Aug. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a super little cable for any peripheral iProduct. I got it for my iPhone, as a backup and to take in the car. As it is certified by Apple it definitely will work with your Apple product. It certainly works perfectly with my phone - for charging, synchronising and backing up - just the same as the original Apple cable. The only difference between the two, apart from branding, is that the real Apple cable is about 4 inches longer.
This AmazonBasics cable may be a little more expensive than some you might find, but this one is guaranteed to be of a decent quality - and to work with your Apple device - and that is worth paying a little extra for.

China's Coming War with Asia
China's Coming War with Asia
by Jonathan Holslag
Edition: Paperback
Price: £14.99

5.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating insight into an emerging super-power and an issue that needs to be considered., 9 Aug. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
China is a country about which most people in the West know very little. Over the years we've had a lot of propaganda about them and there have been a lot of negative headlines. These days it seems that everyone wants to be their friend and trading partner and it is obvious even to folks like me, who know next to nothing, that China is a rising super-power, certainly in the financial arena.
This very interesting, knowledgeable and well-researched book is fascinating and not a little unnerving. Jonathan Holslag considers China's past and present local interactions, and its politics and general mindset - and analyses the possibility that its hoped-for peaceful rise into the world arena may not end up being so peaceful after all.
It is an enormous country with a huge population to provide for and consider, so there is a way to go before it is fully on its feet. But as it heads there, and bearing in mind China's history of self-protection, and the general the expansionist psychology evidenced by many countries as they evolve and grow (whether because of greed or a perceived need for self preservation), the possibility of this being an issue for China certainly needs to be analysed and discussed. This excellent book is an illuminating starter for 10.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb revision aid - practical, comprehensive and human., 9 Aug. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is an excellent resource for review and revision for AQA A-level Psychology students. It is comprehensive and well-written - in that the language is both appropriate to the subject as well as human and engaging. The design and layout is well-considered and aimed at maintaining both interest and flow of information - and it does a great job.
The book is divided into 17 sections. They are: Social Influence, Memory, Attachment, Psychopathology, Approaches in Psychology, Biopsychology, Research Methods, Issues and Debates in Psychology, Relationships, Gender, Cognition and Development, Schizophrenia, Eating Behaviour, Stress, Aggression, Forensic Psychology, and Addiction. These are followed by a chapter focused on doing well in exams and it includes a worked exam paper, to show how it's done. What it does not have, are answers to any of the practice exam questions throughout the book - because they say they would just be saying what's already in the book - which makes a lot of sense, really. Seeing what an actual correctly completed exam looks like seems a much better option - particularly as, all the way through, it gives loads of extra hints and tips on what to include and where you will score extra marks. This is a superb revision aid - it is practical, comprehensive and very human. As they say on the back of the book - 'if you can find a better revision guide form anyone else, we'll eat our hats'. There is also one of their wonky little comedy easter eggs above the barcode on the back cover as well. No spoilers.
