4.0 out of 5 stars An amusing jaunt through tv sport history, 9 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
An amusing and light hearted journey through television sport from the early Grandstand days to modern cut throat bidding for sporting rights via Sky and BT Sport.
Martin Kelner is a skilfull and anecdotal writer and those familiar with his Guardian columns will enjoy the extra room he has here to expand his repertoire. All the main suspects are here: David Coleman, Eamonn Andrews, Frank Bough, Dickie Davies, Des Lynam, Steve Ryder. People in their late fifties and sixties will particular enjoy the retelling of the golden days of TV sport from the seventies and eighties. The only shame is that there are not more photos to go along with the stories.
An easy, coffee table book read, that can be dipped into many times.

I couldn't put this book down although I thought I knew the end it kept me gripped throughout. King captures the sense of period of the 50's perfectly. I felt like I was there. Don't make any other plans while you are reading this.

These were bought as a Christmas present for a sixties tv fan, so they haven't been viewed yet. However a sneak peek reveals excellent quality DVD's mostly in black and white although two episodes appear to be in colour. A cult tv show in its time, Patrick McGoohan's agent John Drake was the precursor of the eponymous Number Six in the Prisoner, which McGoohan himself wrote, directed and starred. This is the complete series of Danger Man from 1964 to 1968 and is excellent value. For those who were bought up in the Sixties this package will revive memories and fans of James Bond will revel in the 007-style gadgetry that McGoohan uses in this series. A must for all 60's memorabilia collectors.

For the price these are exceptional value and the sound quality is excellent. They are great looking too, my choice being a vibrant green and yellow Brazil-style colour although there are other colours too. they stand out from a crowd and offer the user great versatility with a volume control on the lead itself, although this take a bit of getting used to in terms of sensitivity. They come with three sizes of ear buds too for those with smaller or larger lobes. An excellent gift for Christmas
or for yourself. Superb.
