Great compilation including both sides of the contemporaneous single 'In My Own Time'/'Seasons' as well as good remastering of the album. Docked one star for incorrect album title on spine (Anyway instead of Fearless).

3.0 out of 5 stars I've gradually got a bit bored with the same reiteration of the same characters/backstories, 28 May 2016
This is probably where I part company with AMS. I've gradually got a bit bored with the same reiteration of the same characters/backstories, and here found quite a few silly editorial slips, such as misspelling Adolphe Sax's name as Adolf, 'canon fodder' etc (surely not a deliberate pun in the context)... Still, usual wit and charms, though the Auden references are wearing a bit thin (there are other poets).

Pretty good in retrospect -they could obviously all play and the CD has a very tactile analogue sound! My memory of TG was on the Penny Concerts tour organised by Dawn records, featuring TG, Heron, Comus and Demon Fuzz. I know nothing of the last two, though Heron apparently stole the show in Bristol where I saw em. To be honest, that whole period (end of 1970) is shrouded in the dark fuggy mist of post-hippie smoke.... Relatively few bands (Tull, Yes, ELP) emerged from the darkness. TG are a bit like Blodwyn Pig without the wit and Mick A's personality. File under gothic early prog and play occasionally.

Not just the owner...good solo analogue watch, seems to keep excellent time, though the date box can be tricky to read. Be aware that the dial as well as strap is Brown - nice though.

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful - Waterstone's should be ashamed!, 3 May 2014
I bought this in a real bookshop (!) having been told by the friendly saleswoman that if I liked the Hundred Year Old Man I would like this. She's either got terrible taste or no scruples - it's crap. If I'd been asked to write an 'old lady' equivalent to the aforementioned, superb and hilarious book, I could actually have done better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hipsters and hippies, 5 Dec. 2013

Actually the 2012 tour diary was the section that came over as least likeable - most of the time Don's in a grump, with the usual OAP ailments, real and imagined, coming to the fore, and a general but somewhat inconsistent swipe at the modern world and its inhabitants...having said which, it's a thousand times more interesting than most rock stars would manage, and does give an insight into the reality of (his) life on the road. The earlier chapters on childhood, jazz greats and adolescence in New Jersey (The Nightfly territory) were a joy and far more interesting than I'd expected, especially as they flesh out the college years pre-Dan, and his attitude to the hippies/1967/San Francisco ('it was fun for about a week'). He had a pretty good time as a student!

1.0 out of 5 stars Reissue cock-up, 17 Sept. 2013
According to the next few reviews, this has been a real let-down (as a vinyl reissue 2013 by Universal). Joe Boyd was intereviewed on Mark Radcliffe a few months ago talking about it and definitely implied it was from the analogue tapes - now untrue, apparently. What a shame and I sympathise with those who've bought it.

Everyone loves Invocation and Omnis and this is almost in the same league. Some magical new arrangements by Michael McGlynn, superbly sung, with just the male chorale on the first track a little squiffy. Cunnla and Agincourt the most immediate tracks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning live performance, 17 May 2013

Great live show by one of the greatest live bands of the 70s. Off an FM radio broadcast - original tapes or cassette off a tuner? - but sounds good enough and stunningly clear for the most part. Almost 80 minutes of music including some songs rarely appearing on their live output - Long Distance Love, Day or Night, Romance Dance etc. At the top of their game and sound like they're having fun too.

Excellent 'streamer' at a very good price. Great on internet radio, USB playback etc. Could be upgraded with external DAC but with all the sound settings I've not felt this would be needed. Screen is small but useful and easy to navigate.
