5.0 out of 5 stars Tacky excellence!, 3 Mar 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Brilliant! I used these staples in my Tacwise Z1-140 and they easily punched through card, ply, coated mdf skirting boards, fencing, timber, tin, wood and a steel can. In the interests of science of course, I even effortlessly tacked a steel can to a fence post.

A superb accompaniment to the Tacwise Staple Tacker Z1-140, although they apparently fit a whole host of other staple guns too, like the Stanley G11, Arrow T-50 and the Rapid R34. Actually there are nearly 150 other models listed on the packet that they fit as well as another "140 (unlisted) tackers"... if you really want to know.

The Gigantic Beard That Was Evil
The Gigantic Beard That Was Evil

5.0 out of 5 stars Hairy brilliance!, 3 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Wacky, beautifully illustrated and with probably the best book title in the history of book titles! It's a sort of Raymond Briggs for adults, but less depressing. I think, to be honest, we rather impulsively bought this book for the title and cover illustration, but as it turned out the story was compelling and beautifully illustrated too. Essentially a book about a freak beard that challenges thinking and encourages change in a world of conformity. Brilliant!

It's difficult to go wrong with RotoSound strings, they're reliable, good value and have great tone. Great strings at a competitive price.

Tacwise Z1-140 Staple Gun. Staple Gun Tacker
Tacwise Z1-140 Staple Gun. Staple Gun Tacker

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome stapleyness!, 3 Mar 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This deceptive little staple gun packs more of a punch than it's looks might betray. For some unknown reason, over the years I've acquired three staple guns, a vintage model, a "heavy duty" stainless steel model from a well known high street builder's store and now this one and this little machine far exceeds both! Compared to the "heavy duty" model it is far superior, it may not look as "heavy duty", but it packs far more punch with far less effort and buries the staples neatly into most surfaces.
The Tacwise Z1-140 punched effortlessly into card, wood, ply, coated mdf, wood through tin and even through a baked bean can! Not only is the action smooth and effortless, but the tacker is quite light and even has a handy belt/pocket clip.
To be honest it's difficult to get excited over a staple gun, but discovering just what it can punch through (which is a lot) is surprisingly addictive.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too easy to escape., 28 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It's probably okay on the safety side, but our Jack Russell easily slipped out of it even with the harness tightened securely around her. Also the way it attaches to the seat belt doesn't make it very easy for the dog to sit or rise easily. Not for the escape artist!

Worth buying just for the funky and somewhat quirky music, but a great family friendly game too! We love it.

Okay if you want a career in the Airforce, otherwise really dull. Quite difficult to control and much more like a simulator than a game. Perhaps too like the real thing...

A Short Book About Drawing
A Short Book About Drawing
by Andrew Marr

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, 9 Jan 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I must confess, I was initially a little skeptical about Andrew Marr's chances of writing a decent book on drawing. After all he's a BBC journalist and not know for any involvement in the arts... well, not to my knowledge anyway.

However, this is a delightful little book. The chapter lengths are ideal for a little light reading and are honest and insightful. This isn't so much a book about 'how' to draw as it is a book about 'why' we draw, so if you want a book to help you improve your technique then this isn't that book. If want to know why an artist draws, then Andrew Marr describes beautifully how drawing fits into his life and why he loves to draw. He also shares a few insights from artists David Hockney and Antony Gormley and I particularly enjoyed their input in the final chapter on the future of drawing.

This is such a charming little book that I could even forgive his over use of an iPad to draw on, his pencil sketches and watercolours were much better! But technology is changing the artistic process and it's better to get accustomed to it perhaps, than get washed away in the growing tide of computerised drawing practice.

Anyway, don't buy this book because you want to bathe in Marr's artistic prowess as Andrew himself is the first to admit he's no Rembrandt, but do buy it for the delightful read that it is and to let Marr's enthusiasm for the art of drawing rub off on you just a little.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great outdoor case., 19 Dec 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
If you want to carry your iPad Mini around safely, then this case is ideal. It's of a robust design and neatly zips your iPad away safely when closed. If for instance you wanted to use it for connecting to a camera for showing clients on-screen images, or for taking it on site somewhere, then it's great. If however you wanted to use it for keeping your iPad Mini in at home, then it is a little more bulky and heavy duty than you may want for home use.

Also the elasticated corners are a little sloppy and tend to get in the way of some of the screen, but like I said, for transporting the iPad outside and keeping it relatively safe, it "probably" would do a great job.

5.0 out of 5 stars RHS Brilliance!, 19 Dec 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I wish I'd had this book when I studied for the RHS General Exam in Horticulture as there are so few really good and accessible books on gardener's botany available. This single volume even rivals the awesome Principles of Horticulture by Adams, Bamford and Early. In fact it's easier and more interesting to read! Actually, if you're thinking of studying for the RHS, then those two books in combination would be pretty much all you would need.

The whole book is a delight! It's as if the RHS have thrown all of the most useful botany books available into a big pot and stewed them down until what is left is a concise, concentrated, yet beautiful combination of them all. It's also richly illustrated and just the right size to handle, not so big that it weighs down your knees and not too small as to not seem very serious. In short I love it!

Having looked through to see if there was anything they might have missed, I can honestly say it seems as close to being perfect as any single volume on gardener's botany could possibly be. Not overly technical, accessible and informative. Not boring, but rich and enlightening!

With all that said, this is a book on botany, so it can't help but be a little scientific, but if that's what you want then this book won't let you down.
