Naruto Powerful Shippuden (Nintendo 3DS)
Naruto Powerful Shippuden (Nintendo 3DS)
Offered by games-wizard
Price: £16.96

4.0 out of 5 stars Great 2D action platform with beat em up mechanics, 17 Feb 2014
Unlike the serious Naruto Shippuden anime, this is based on the Rock Lee spinoff manga/anime. While it does focus on the Shippuden storyline it does so in the most humorous way possible. You have characters acting out of character, breaking the fourth wall and dressing in the most absurd costumes. There is a heavy emphasis on Rock Lee and his team but Naruto and Team 7 also make an appearance along with the other Konoha Genin and Teachers.

Most of the levels involve defeating all the enemies, there are also race-type levels and puzzle ones which require specific items. There are bosses too including Orochimaru, Deidara, Gai and Kisame. You can level up your characters by earning experience and you're able to redistribute XP at will. There are two storymodes for Lee and Naruto which you go back and forth between in order to get all the unlock keys.

While there is no co-op or versus mode there is a good amount of variety in this game. While the other Naruto games on DS have been hit or miss, this one is awesome and is well balanced. Definitely worth getting if you're a big Naruto fan or you like beat em up games.

I wasn't really excited about this game but after getting it I was shown how wrong I was. The graphics are incredible, the gameplay is simple but satisfying and the levels vary in an extraordinary way. While it's not as sophisticated as Galaxy the levels are the perfect duration for traveling and the enemy variety is awesome. Absolutely worth getting if possible.

There are many things to like about this game. Great graphics, superb online play, fantastic course selection. You've got 16 brand new maps combined with 16 retro courses which are reworked from the ground up to fit the new engine and graphically remain up-to-date with the 3DS courses. Battle mode is back along with Streetpass functionality that allows your 3DS to share ghosts with other users.

When you've become accustomed to the 3D effect it's beautiful and will make you play this Mario Kart game more than any other. It's a perfect culmination of classic Mario Kart action with new functionality. The perfect Mario Kart game.

If you've played Call of Duty Zombies mode or Assassin's Creed Wolfpack you'll understand the basic premise behind this game. The idea is that you pick one of eight characters, equip skills and choose weapon sets. The objective of each mission is to defeat as many enemies as possible and rack up your high score. This is done by getting combos and defeating tough enemies and bosses. Performing melee kills on enemies will extend the time limit along with smashing the time statues. While some parts of the game are difficult (the bosses and survival parts) the game eases you into it gently.

This game doesn't require perfection like other games but for 2-5 minutes it expects you to make the most of your time, deal with enemies effectively and be aware of your surroundings. Enemies can grab you from behind and cause damage. Others will attack you or worse can kill you instantly (the chainsaw guy comes to mind).

There isn't much context to the game itself because Mercenaries is based on a minigame found in the other games. I recommend you look at the wikipedia pages for the characters to learn more about their motivations/personalities and so on. This is a perfect 3DS game as the graphics are great and you can play for short bursts. It's not a long game but getting a perfect score and clearing all the levels with each character will take some time. There's also 2 player co-op online and offline for most missions. Well worth picking up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Street Fighter IV is a fantastic fighter and one of the best 3DS games, 20 Jan 2014

I'll start this review by saying that I was never excited about Street Fighter while I was younger. I felt that combat and graphics weren't as well balanced as Mortal Kombat and the moves were too tricky to pull off.

I wanted to give this a try since I heard many good things about it and I was excited to check out Streetpass.

There are tons of characters, costumes and extra settings. The large range of difficulty options are nice along with Arcade and Versus modes. There are some unique parts of the 3DS version such as a mode designed to make the most of the 3D and collectable figurines.

I found myself drawn to characters like Vega and Bison. Overall it's a fantastic game and worth picking up.

Pokemon Y really does change a lot about how Pokemon fundamentally works. The world and battles are now completely 3D allowing for more realism and depth. You earn XP for catching monsters and you can randomly fight a herd of five enemies at one time.

The Pokemon themselves look great in 3D and great care has been taken to make the different moves look awesome and detailed from multiple angles. There are many online features such as battle and trading along with local multiplayer features. Overall a fantastic take on the franchise and a great example of what the 3DS was made for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterful version of a perfect game!, 16 Jan 2014
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Starfox 64 was one of my favourite Nintendo 64 games but it had some limitations such as the use of sprites and low-fidelity voices. Starfox 64 3DS is a faithful remake of the original and features 3D models for all portions of the in-game segments, readjusted levels and difficulty and reworked voice acting. The voices are clearer than ever before and dialogue is tightened up.

The 3D effects are superb and there is an autosave after each mission. You can also take part in singleplayer or multiplayer skirmish battles in the Arwing along with a score attack on any stage you've completed before. While the story itself is short there are multiple paths to each level and multiple possible outcomes. You have three wingmen at all times and their presence and absence strongly affects the gameplay. This is a game that any Starfox fan or 3DS owner must have as it really shows off the power of the console.
