1.0 out of 5 stars 75% failure rate after 10 months, 9 Dec 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
January 2014 update: A third bulb out of the four has now failed. If I could give the product zero stars I would. :(

It's December 2013 as I write this. After 9 months use in a bedroom (hardly heavy usage!) in an open fitting (little around the bulb to retain excessive heat) 2 out of 4 bulbs I bought back in February 2013 have now failed. I am contacting the supplier under the two year guarantee.

When they worked, light level and light quality were comparable with the halogen equivalents. Compatible dimmer is required.

Black Rapid RS-7 Camera Strap

5.0 out of 5 stars Good for camcorders too!, 5 Jun 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Trying to decide which strap to get for my new camcorder was tricky as all of the reviews I found were for straps aimed at DSLR cameras. However, I read as many as I could and ended up deciding on the Black Rapid RS-7 strap for my Sony NEX VG30. I am very happy with my choice.

You might well wonder why anyone would pay this sort of price for a "simple camera strap" but the ergonomics of this strap make it well worthwhile.

The strap seems well made and the system of connecting to the camcorder via the tripod mount screw in the base of the camcorder and a connector that slides along the main strap works very well. Most straps would connect via two mounting points on the top of the camcorder but this often leads to the strap getting in the way or in front of the lens when the strap becomes slack as the camcorder is lifted up to the eye to use. The Black Rapid system neatly avoids this problem. The tripod mount point on my camcorder is well balanced so the camcorder rests level horizontally, upside down and facing backwards when being supported by the strap. The strap goes over the left shoulder and runs across the body down to the right hip. It's slightly curved to make it sit very comfortably on the left shoulder (there are also "left-handed" versions of most of the straps in the range). The length can be adjusted so the camcorder sits at a comfortable height when at rest. I suspect for most people the most comfortable position would be at the side of the right hip. When bringing the camcorder up to the eye to use, the connector and strap fall below the camcorder and out of the way. The connector slides up and along the main strap causing no restriction of movement. The main strap does not move when the camcorder is lifted up for use. There are two adjustable "end stops" on the main strap which ensure the sliding connector can't move too far in either direction.

It's easier to see it in action than to describe how it works, but it does work very well!

Using the tripod mount for the strap would seem to be a disadvantage if you're frequently switching between tripod and hand held but I've not come across many shooting situations that require that rapid transfer. Of course the camcorder won't "stand up" when resting on a surface with the stud screwed into the base but this strap feels so comfortable you won't need to put it down unless you've finished for the day or taking a long break. In which case the camcorder should probably be back in its case anyway.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice films, shame about the extras., 30 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The image quality of each film is as good as it's ever going to be but not up to modern film standards, as you might expect. In each case a big step up from any previous release and in glorious HD too.

"2150" is a much better film than the first one and actually quite enjoyable. It's a shame they never got to make any more of these and ironic that the better movie fared less well at the box office than the first.

The extras are pretty lousy. Across the two disks some of the interview comments are repeated. The audio levels vary shockingly from one extra to another and the interview with Bernard Cribbens sounds like a background, ambient mike was used.

Still, overall, good value for Doctor Who fans and better value than getting the discs separately.

(I see a few sellers are chancing their arms, trying to sell this limited edition for 99! I wouldn't pay that for this. Buy them separately instead.)
