5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Pajaros Perdidos, 24 Jan 2013

What a gem!
Having recently become an ardent admirer of Philippe Jaroussky, I was browsing through the catalogue and came across 'Pajaros'. I clicked to listen to the snippets, but by the fourth track, I stopped it, and bought it!
Not only is Jaroussky in exquisite voice, everyone involved is irresistible; a total joy throughout!
Do not hesitate to buy this.

This was the first Cecilia Bartoli recording I ever heard, and it blew me away. She cut her teeth on Rossini before venturing to Mozart and others. How well she did! Glorious vocals throughout. Buy, without hesitation.

Don't worry about other versions of Dylan Thomas' masterpiece, this one featuring Richard Burton as the Narrator stands heads above the rest. Buy, look you now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lord Peter solves the crimes, 8 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Spot-on radio cast versions of Dorothy L Sayers' detective stories.
Ian Carmichael really is Peter Wimsey, with charm oozing through every line.
As with all the other Carmichael/Wimsey CDs on sale, this one is well worth buying.

Beautifully filmed, showing Ms Bartoli and Versailles at their best. A perfect complement to the 'Mission' CD. Buy and wallow in luxury!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bartoli + Bryn = Brilliant!, 4 Dec 2012
This review is from: Cecilia and Bryn Duets (Audio CD)
One of my all-time favourite CDs. How well the two singers blend together. No risks taken with the material, but there was no need, as they make each number sound as fresh as if hearing them for the first time. That they enjoy working with each other is obvious - even more so on the wonderful DVD of their concert from Glyndebourne. Buy this CD AND the DVD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brava Bartoli!, 4 Dec 2012
This review is from: Rossini: La Cenerentola (Audio CD)
This recording gave Cecilia Bartoli superstardom. A gem in all respects; everyone involved is on top form. Chailly conducts, controls, coaxes wonderful performances from the whole team. Bartoli is in top-top voice, every note of her coloratura pieces defined precisely. A great recording! (The DVD is damn' good, too)

4.0 out of 5 stars Abridged, but well done!, 3 Dec 2012

This review is from: A Christmas Carol (Audio CD)
I knew before buying, that this recording would have chunks cut out; it was just which and where they would be! The abridger (is there such a word), Neville Teller, has done a very good job, and anyone who wants a shortened version could not do better. David Jason reads with great warmth, and one can only wish he had recorded the complete, ultimate, Christmas story.

5.0 out of 5 stars An underrated gem!, 3 Dec 2012

I saw this the second night it was shown in London (1969), and bought the soundtrack album at the cinema. A long time ago now, but although Peter and Petula never liked the songs that much, a lot of people did! And now, how great to have that soundtrack again. The songs have remained as fresh as they were all those years ago; 'And the Sky Smiled Too' will always bring back my own holiday in Paestum, and I have also stood on the same spot in Syon Park where Mr Chips and Katherine share their first kiss. A lovely, gentle film, and a score that evokes the love story perfectly.

5.0 out of 5 stars She should have got the film!, 3 Dec 2012
This review is from: Mame (Audio CD)
Why, oh, why, did the powers that were not choose Angela Lansbury to play Mame Dennis in the film version? This recording shows how good she is with the songs (and with the awards she won for the stage production, how good she was in that, too). Think what she would have brought to the movie! That turkey would have been a bird of paradise.
She can belt with the best of 'em (We Need A Little Christmas), and sing tenderly when the songs requires her to do so (When He Walked Into My Life).
Excellent.
