A Bespoke Murder (Home Front Detective series Book 1)
A Bespoke Murder (Home Front Detective series Book 1)
Price: £1.79

3.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat disappointing, 20 Dec 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is too obviously an attempt to take advantage of the author's success with his railway detective, but without the depth of characterisation. Also, part of the tale is not properly concluded - we never learn the effect of the arrests on Irene and Dot, giving the impression that the author just wanted to get the book finished.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it!, 5 Dec 2014

This is a short book, but a difficult one to read, because Bill Stewardson reveals the pain of bereavement in a direct, touching and entirely genuine way. His case for government to introduce statutory bereavement leave for parents and partners is sensible and sound and, for this reason perhaps, rejected by a government that really does not give a jot for the concerns of ordinary people.

2.0 out of 5 stars Slow stuff, 22 Jun 2014

Suffers from the usual problem of an American author writing about Scotland (or England, come to that) - too much irrelevant information that slows down the action. And it wasn't really worth getting to the end - yawns!

1.0 out of 5 stars Connectivity issues, 14 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
If it were not for the fact that I'm too late to return this scale to Amazon, I would do so right now. There are two serious issues with the scale, which the company appears to be unable to resolve: first, it is difficult (or in my case, impossible) to establish a wi-fi connection with the scale, even when the scale and the router are sitting side by side; secondly, connection is problematic when using the Bluetooth alternative with the iPad. I am instructed that the device will sync only after the measurement is made, but connecting by Bluetooth presumably requires the scale to be "live" and I do not know whether the scale is still live after the measurements have been made. As a result Bluetooth connection is haphazard, sometimes the connection is made (often after the iPad has said that no connection is possible) sometimes it is not, and this morning, connection was made, but the data appear only in the Timeline feature, not on the Dashboard. I am now reduced to recording the data on paper and then transferring the data manually to the iPad app. It seems that the technology has some distance to go before this device can be considered useful and if you have bought the machine and have experienced these problems, send it back, don't hang on hoping that all will get well - it won't.

Injustice for All (J. P. Beaumont Novel)
Injustice for All (J. P. Beaumont Novel)

2.0 out of 5 stars A curious style, 7 Jun 2014
Jance writes a number of series, including one about an Arizona (woman) sheriff, and this series about J.P. Beaumont, Seattle detective. The problem with both this book and its predecessor is that you can see the plot elements coming at you, full speed ahead - when Beau meets a woman, she winds up dead and it's obvious. There's another oddity - when Jance writes about the woman sheriff, the sex is reduced to a hint here and there of something going on; with the male detective, the sex is full-on soft porn (almost). Now, I wonder why? One might think that some sexism was at work here - the sheriff lady gets her jollies but no one must know, while all can be let to hang out for the male detective. Actually, I prefer the absence of sex in the Arizona series, since Beau is somewhat unbelievably good in bed, raising his ladies to the heights of ecstasy :-) It's pretty formulaic stuff.

I'm not sure about this one, because I've only used it once, but that use seemed to last just about as long as the one provided with the camera.

4.0 out of 5 stars They do the job!, 5 Jun 2014

These grips were delivered on time and to specification, They come in the pair shown in the picture along with a small Allen key to tighten the nut in the centre to keep the device in place. My only grumble is that it would have been better if the arm with the thumb grip on the end had been placed lower - it is still perfectly usable, but a lower position would make it more comfortable to use.

1.0 out of 5 stars Be warned!, 5 Jun 2014
I have been using Bob Martin litter tray liners for about 30 years, but they have been redesigned: they are now smaller and will not fit the standard litter trays I've been using for the same length of time. My guess is that they use less material and, therefore, are cheaper to produce. The problem is that there is not enough width to settle the liner in the bottom of the pan and stretch over all four sides. I've reported this to Bob Martin (they promise a 28 day response time so are clearly not really serious about customer service) and also to Waitrose where I bought them - the supermarket will be contacting the supplier and, I hope, will find an alternative from another source.

3.0 out of 5 stars a trifle tedious, 12 April 2014

Too many beginnings, too many side trips, which I suspect are the result of trying to create a series - I won't bother with the rest.

3.0 out of 5 stars Impossible to say, 24 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this as a standby for my X100s and so far I haven't needed it, so all I can say is that the product is as described and that it was delivered to the timetable. Time will tell how useful it is.
