5.0 out of 5 stars The best all-in-one system I found, works our of the box in UK, a great choice., 13 Sep 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
After much searching for the right all-in-one hi-fi system for a new area of our property I was delighted to find this German product that combines FM/DAB radio, CD, Apt-X CD quality Bluetooth, USB, line in along with excellent 80W 2.1 speakers (two speakers plus sub-woofer). I was hesitant to purchase given this was a high priced important item and it is by a company largely unknown in UK. I read many reviews from Germany and tracked the company for many months before deciding on this product in comparison with those from such as Ruark, Revo, Cambridge Works and many more.

This system had to be usable by my whole household with everyone having their own music collections in cloud and a central one running through uPNP. Using Apt-X bluetooth everyone can stream from their phone, tablet or laptop to this device easily without any degredation in sound. Our son can play from CDs which he likes to collect and we can enjoy radio too.

First of all, have no fear of using this in the UK. It operates in English with an intuitive menu that didn't need the manual. It works in UK out of the box for DAB (and supports DAB+ for the future). Unlike competitor systems this has a straight forward, easy to understand remote control that makes using the system quick and intuitive. All major functions have a button which was a major factor and along with its lack of Bluetooth built in, one of the reasons I chose this over the Ruark 4.

Upon opening the excellent packaging the user is provided with gloves and a cloth to avoid marking the surface of the unit when putting it into place. The colour I chose is red which is a deeper cherry red on the actual product and is highly appealing. Set-up takes only a moment to put in batteries provided for the remote and time clock then to screw on the provided aerial. (Remember of course radio reception benefits from a dedicated powered aerial which I always recommend).

There is great fun to be had experimenting with your devices and music on the product which immediately produces a rich, confident sound that is great across bass, middle and treble, there is clear stereo separation (within the inherent constraints of speakers fixed in position of course). There are even a series of relaxing sounds to use along with the sleep function if the device is used for evening relaxation.

Our whole family is delighted with the sound and attracted to use the system. The sound can be tweaked with a number of effects that maximise the stereo (on/off), dedicated bass and treble controls plus equalisation that can maximise bass, middle/voice or treble. These work well though with the strong 40W sub-woofer on board its unlikely that anyone will need to use the bass maximised setting. After some experimentation the balanced default setting is best for us. Of course the system can only put out what it receives in, so low bit rate MP3s played overolder versions of bluetooth are going to sound bad because....well they are! But a 320kbs MP3, lossless FLAC or CD are all going to sound wonderful which I can confirm they do. The system extracts the maximum quality from its source and turns DAB into more of the experience it was promised to be.

This all-in-one isn't a replacement for a serious advocate of hi-fi but having tried dozens of systems and with many years experience in hi-fi and music making, I can attest that this is a quality product and for me the sound is truly wonderful, loud but nuanced, balanced and detailed. It has unobtrusive but modern design that is attractive, it looks excellent and will be a cherished part of your home entertainment.

To be objective can I think of any downsides? I would have liked a metal aerial in the box instead of the ribbon one and replaced this straight away. The bluetooth is a little sensitive on earlier incarnations of the codec prior to Apt-X, but this is true on all devices not just this one. I would have liked a fully customisable five band EQ but in reality I haven't needed it at all as there are dedicated bass and treble controls. The USB and line-in inputs are on the back to preserve the clean look of the front. They aren't fiddly to reach but some may wish they are on the front (it's hard to please everyone on this). The device doesn't have on-board uPNP/DLNA wireless networking but with Bluetooth Apt-X this isn't needed as your phone/tablet has a better screen to act as a remote control and library manager for this. Some may also like more than the six radio presets but I haven't found we need more and changing stations on DAB is quick anyway.

This are really observations to help those considering the system rather than a critique. None have affected our enjoyment and are not specific issues with this product.

My final thought is that this is designed to be a music system for adults looking to meet a range of needs with a quality product that looks good and will endure. It is exceedingly well made as the kind of modern system that will last and become part of your home. A modern update perhaps to the stererogram concept of the 1970s that has been revived recent with the Ruark 7. The look of the system is a subtle updating of the 1950s table radio with slightly curved corners, it works very well within the mid-century modern clean look of the room it is now within.

I'm relieved and delighted to say that this system is everything I hoped for and the best testament is that everyone in the family is using it continually. It is the centrepiece of a new part of our home and is already providing renewed appreciation of our music and radio choices.

This is genuinely a brilliant product from an understated company who want the quality to do the talking for them.

We bought the system via PlanetGizmo through Amazon who were helpful and prompt to despatch.

Great iron. No need to adjust temperature dial. Saves time sorting clothes. Glides across clothing, easy to use not heavy unlike some other irons I've had in the past.

Would recommend it to others, even those who don't like ironing This will definitely reduce the time you spend ironing and make it less of a chore.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real soul music that rewards listening, 2 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Sun Room (Audio CD)
This is the kind of contemporary soul album that fans hope to find. It is soul as we think of it originally rather than beating beat driven R&B, over the top wailing or house music with a vocal. The sound is made of real instruments and subtle electronic elements, it sounds natural, almost live. It's an intimate album, great on headphones or speakers. The songs are strong with the singer's warm vocal. It has touches of 1970s sophisticated soul with analogue vintage synth type sounds, electric pianos and a range of styles from ballads, southern soul to a few more uptempo songs. An absolutely delightful album.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but not as good as preceding album, 26 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This double album is well made, played wonderfully but far too long and samey. I like the new Italian jazz-soul sound and have enjoyed previous albums by Papik and their members. However two long albums is too much all at once and the sound is getting close to a cliche. Of particular annoyance is that the occasional clever cover version now extends to five on this set, two by Barry White. The covers of 'Baby I Love Your Way' and 'My Sharona' are okay but unwelcome, neither work in my view as soul songs, one is too mawkish and the other too poppy (although a fun song in its own genre). There is sadly nothing across the two CDs to approach the sublime 'Somewhere' off the last album. I'm a fan and was wondering when the albums would finish with little variety in each album as they are themed along jazz and soul on the different CDs, a mistake in my view. So the albums are still enjoyable and better than much of what is out there, but sound a bit over confident with brash arrangements and less delicacy of touch or space to the music. It's the sound of trying too hard, making too music and just losing sight a little of what made them great.

This knitted tie is pure silk, the right width as it isn't too narrow and in colour is the dark mustard/light camel colour I wanted. A good price for an excellent item,

This looks good on screen but is very thin and slim fit in style. The colour is great but while it fit on the chest it was tight on the arms somehow. I therefore had to return it which was a shame.

5.0 out of 5 stars Durable laptop bag, 26 May 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a durable, well made bag that for the price is hard to beat. Targus items are solid in their construction, decent to look at and seem to last. Laptop bags can be five times the price of this but for little extra durability than this. Targus is a name I trust so this will be my son's bag for college this year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful mid-1970s soul, 26 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Lonely One (Audio CD)
This is a wonderful reissue of a classic 1970s sophisticated soul album that has the lush sophisticated sound of the era as heard Philly Soul, with great playing, production and vocals. The songwriting is notable and this is an under appreciated classic album that will surprise those hearing it for the first time. Fans of the Modern Soul scene, buy now with confidence.
