5.0 out of 5 stars Once Upon a Time In The West - BluRay, 13 July 2014
This is a remarkable movie. Its so different than your typical Western movie. The opening 10 minutes is gripping stuff with very little dialogue but some incredible scenes of 3 scary dudes waiting at a railway station.
Charles Bronson's dialogue "you have 2 horses too many" is a classic.
This is a very long film, but at 3 hours long I still can't fault it. the acting is superb, Fonda, Bronson, the brilliant Italian actors are superb.
The beautiful soundtrack is also a highlight. The camera angles are also well done as is the landscape.
This movie on BluRay is faultless, I enjoyed this immensely. 5 stars all the way !

Great cult science fiction movie. Watched this as a kid in the 1970s on TV and was fascinated with the whole thing with the ray guns and amazing effects that were way ahead of their time. This is a great film despite its low budget look and compared to today's digital effects. A must see movie from another era.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jethro Tull - A Passion Play ( 2 x CD & 2 x DVD ) box set, 6 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A passion play sounds and just feels much better in this brilliant box set. 2 CDs. disc 1 a passion play remixed by Steven Wilson and another 2nd CD of sessions from the aborted 1972 France sessions which are also superb. The DVDs of these albums also included have 5.1 mixes that are very enjoyable. The sound on all these discs is simply stunning. For a recording from the early 1970s to sound this fresh is a revelation. The booklet is also fantastic and has a lot of info on the sessions etc. just what fans will enjoy!
Overall I am very happy with this box set of yet another great Jethro Tull remix that is so well produced by the engineering wizard Steven Wilson.

I enjoyed the first 2 Superman movies and expected this 3rd instalment to be just as good.

From the first 30 seconds I realised this was going to be a challenge. It starts off with comedy and does not relent. The story suffers from the get go with a very thin plot and average acting. Richard Pryor tries to save the film but he is poorly written into the film and looks very out of place.
As a film its just not enjoyable, the story goes nowhere, the computer is so unbelievable it looks foolish.
This is a real clunker of a movie and I regret getting this on BluRay, a waste of $10

Sadly Superman IV is also poor and is only slightly better than III.

I have been a fan of Cream, Blind Faith but had not heard of Bakers band from the mid 1970s until I brought the DVD documentary of Ginger Baker last year Beware Of Mr.Baker. I have purchased several CDs and DVDs as a result of watching that film. One was the incredible performance in Africa with Kuti and the other is from a brief fragment of a performance with a group I had never heard of called Baker Gurvitz Army. The result is this amazing live in the studio performance in Germany from 1975.
From the first song to the last this is a brilliant concert well filmed and recorded. What is obvious is how much Ginger Baker is enjoying the show, he smiles throughout this show and at one touching moment he gets off the drums and comes up front to join in the vocals. He is also clearly drunk but this certainly does not affect his performance.
The Gurvitz brothers on guitar and bass are exceptional musicians and really make a great band with Ginger.
The music is a full on rock show with a bit of prog mixed in.
I highly recommend this fully enjoyable and exceptional musical journey with a band that missed my radar but have caught my attention now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - BluRay Pure Audio, 17 May 2014
At last a BluRay 'Pure Audio' that has been done right! The sound on this BluRay is superb. There is a very enjoyable 5.1 mix that was done for SACD a few years ago. It seems to sound even better than the SACD version from what I am hearing. The intro to Funeral For a Friend you can hear the subtle keyboard intro with even greater detail. The drumming and bass sound are more up front. Elton's voice is mostly in centre but it is mixed more up to mix better with the music.
As an album it's probably one of Elton Johns best albums with a lot of diverse music over 1 hour. This is a must get for fans and audiophile fanatics. Bring on more EJ on BluRay in 5.1

The Allman Brothers Band: Live At Great Woods [DVD]
Dvd ~ Live at Great Woods
Price: 11.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Allman Brothers Band - Live At Great Woods (2014 DVD), 17 May 2014
This is a spectaclar concert with the band in fine form. I had this on VHS years ago. I had hoped the audio would have been better and include a 5.1 mix however it does not, in fact it is only 48 kHz.
The picture is greatly improved compared to the VHS version with the stage view far superior and a lot sharper.
What impresses me with this concert is how well Dicky Betts plays, the guys loving being there and is on the top of his game. This is at a time when the band had re-emerged in the late 1980s with a lot of enthusiasm and a lot of new songs.
The song selection is also well thought out with old and new songs all played brilliantly.
Its just a real shame they didn't improve the audio on this, another reviewer commented the lack of bass, I must agree the bass is not blasting through my JBL speaker system as I was hoping.

Great concert, a good document of the band in peak form in 1991.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rod Stewart - Live 1976-1998, 17 May 2014
I am pleasantly surprised at the quality of these live performances. One track really stood out for me on disc 2, 'If Loving You Is Wrong, I Don't Want To Be Right' must be one of the best vocal performances I have heard from Rod Stewart ever, the man puts in an incredible effort that really stood out as I was hearing this box set.
There are even a few great blues songs such as a Muddy Waters cover. This is a great collection of some of the best live recordings Rod has recorded and performed over a 20 year period. Lots of rock and roll songs and a few of his classic ballads, it's all here, even a few Faces classics.
This set compliments the previous box - The Rod Stewart Sessions 1971-1998
The only gripe is the very ordinary booklet included with just the bare minimum info.

This review is from: The Yes Album (Blu-ray Audio)
This is the 2nd Steven Wilson re-mixed Yes album. The 5.1 mix is better than the previous effort with a far better balance of vocal and instruments with Steve Howes guitar more upfront on this release. The dynamics also seem better compared to the previous.
The Yes Album has several classic tracks such as Starship Trooper and I've Seen All Good People that have remained on the play list for over 40 years. The bonus material are a good inclusion with the original mix in 96/24 kHz sounding brilliant in high res.
Another must get on BluRay Audio.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Shadows - The Early Years 1959-1966, 13 April 2014
I had the 20 Golden Greats album for many years. With this collection I now realise what a music genius Hank Marvin was/is. The band The Shadows were an extraordinary group of musicians. Although the music sounds simple, try to play any of these songs with the same passion and skill, I bet you can't.
The incredible musicianship and timing these guys had was impeccable. The song The Savage is a good example of timing, skill and an incredible song. I never get sick of Hanks great tone and melody.
The kids of today would look at the cover of this box set and say geeks etc, but these guys really started what we all love today and i am very glad i have this collection to educate my kids what great music can be.
The sound is top notch as is the mix of songs, great collection all up.
