4.0 out of 5 stars An essential collection for monster movie fans, 26 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
For anyone like myself who, as a child, would creep downstairs when all were in bed to watch these movies late Friday evenings this collection is a must. I have had several of the films on DVD for many years and am pleased that, while not perfect, the image quality is far better that on DVD. I haven't seen all the movies so far. So pleased that the feature length documentary 'Universal Horror' is included on the Frankenstein disc. Well worth watching.
Had to return first set as one disc scratched and another cracked at the centre spine so check carefully when you receive - otherwise enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars No fuss video card, 26 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Having purchased a new HD video camera that came without the Memory card opted for this one from Amazon as the price was so good. Arrived within a couple of days and have had no problem recording onto it. It also holds around 2.5 - 3 hours of full HD video. Transferring footage to my computer was as simple as inserting the Sandisk card into the computer card reader.

5.0 out of 5 stars The ecstasy, passion and pain of love!!, 23 Jan. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Terrence Rattigan’s romantic play set in a repressive post-war Britain takes place during one day in a dingy bedsit. Hester (Rachel Weisz) has left behind her passionless marriage to successful lawyer Sir William Collyer (Simon Russell-Beale) to continue her affair with handsome and dashing air force pilot Freddie Page (Tom Hiddlestone). Davies skilfully reworks Rattigan’s play into a series of short scenes that depict both the action during the day along with flashbacks leading to this moment in time. This multi-layered narrative works in the way memory does - in that one memory evokes associated memories for the characters.
All the performances are exceptional, especially those of the lead actors Rachel Weisz, Tom Hiddleston and Simon Russell-Beale. Barbara Jefford is wonderful as Collyer’s mother, warning Hester to ‘beware of passion, it always leads to something ugly’! It is not so much the dialogue as the movements and casual glances that give nuances to the characters.
The Deep Blue Sea is a wonderful portrayal of the ecstasy, passion and pain of being in love. The blu-ray release includes: a Commentary with Terence Davies and Ian Haydn Smith during which Davies refers to the earlier film version with Vivienne Leigh and Kenneth More which he says is terrible. A separate interview with Terence Davies. Unfortunately the audio is poor with Davies voice echoing around the room - it sounds as if the sound man forgot to turn on the microphone. There is also a Making of featurette with cast and crew and the Theatrical Trailer.

5.0 out of 5 stars This case & your iPad belong together!, 22 Sept. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Having searched unsuccessfully for an iPad case that I was happy with was very sceptical before ordering this iPad case. It arrived today and is so beautiful I can't stop holding it. The iPad fits very snugly inside protecting from damage and just looks wonderful. Beautiful to hold, beautifully made and a joy to have. Was tempted to immediately order another case but reckon the iPad may well be replaced before the case! Finally just to say I'm not easily pleased when buying cases but this exceeded my expectations.

4.0 out of 5 stars Apply carefully!, 12 Aug. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Had problems with the first 2 I attempted to apply but success with the third - now see why its a pack of 6, so have 3 backups for later use. Just be sure to remove the cut-out holes for the camera and home button before applying as these can attach themselves to the screen protector. Good product and ideal for protecting your iPad screen.

1.0 out of 5 stars Where are the Special Features?, 22 Feb. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Returned the Blu Ray copy without watching as so annoyed that there are no special features. The Region 1 release, as well as containing a duplicate DVD copy of the series, includes special features:
Previews: Each episode includes the 40+ second teaser that was produced for it.
Inside the Episodes: Haynes sits down with author and critic Robert Polito and discusses each of the episodes, offering character analysis and describing differences between the novel and the teleplay he co-wrote with Jon Raymond.
Audio Commentaries: Recorded for parts three and five, Writer/Director Todd Haynes, Writer Jon Raymond and Production Designer Mark Friedberg talk at length about the characters, teleplay adaptation, production design, costuming and filming.
Making of Mildred Pierce (29:01, HD): The HBO featurette covers the topics of development, Winslet's approach to and preparation for the role, cinematography, production design, and costuming.
Further am not impressed by the bulky book-type packaging which was obviously created to hold the dual Blu-Ray/DVD versions. Would have preferred dual blu-ray case to hold the 2 discs.
Once again UK and EU customers are ripped off by being denied the same content as US customers have on region 1 releases. So my copy has been returned in the hope that the special edition complete with extras will be released here in the future. Or I can always get the US region free version.

2.0 out of 5 stars Subtitles out of frame!, 28 Dec. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
As to the content of the movie I would agree that this is not one of Almodovar's best but it is watchable and interesting.

My one disappointment with the Blu-Ray disc is the subtitles. When watching this movie in the cinema the subtitles are within the 2.35 aspect frame. On the Blu-Ray disc (I haven't seen the DVD copy) the subtitles drop out of the 2.35 aspect and appear at the bottom of the screen forcing the viewer to focus on the black bar at the bottom of the screen to read subtitles and miss visual information. If a film is presented in a 2.35 aspect ratio then the subtitles should appear within this ratio.

Disappointing blu-ray transfer!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great movie - same Blu-Ray features as DVD, 6 Nov. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Amores Perros [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Amores Perros was the first movie from mexican director Alejandro Gonzales Innarritu and is a stunning first feature. Many were put off by the reported scenes of dog-fighting in the movie but these are expertly shot and edited and, crucially, no animals were harmed during the making of the movie!! The Blu-Ray edition is crisp and sharp but unfortunately has nothing to offer that isn't on the previously released DVD.
If you enjoyed the directors other movies: 21 Grams, Babel and most recently Biutiful, you really should see this movie also.

2.0 out of 5 stars Did I get a dodgy disc?, 5 Nov. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Reading the other reviews I felt the sound was good and liked the graininess of the picture. However not sure if I had a dodgy disc but I noticed jumped frames throughout the movie - i.e. it appeared that frames were missing causing picture jump - anyone else notice this? I've returned my blu-ray disc!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good voice ... but not for the classics!, 6 Oct. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Classic (Audio CD)
Joe McElderry was my favourite throughout 2010 X-Factor, never failing to give a polished, faultless performance. I awaited his first album with anticipation but was turned off by the discoesque, cheesy pop of the single released. I thought 'Classic' would be an album I loved, but have to honestly say I haven't fallen in love with it. Joe's voice is totally wonderful but I feel that some of the songs are not for him, especially the italian classical tracks - his voice is just not powerful enough for them - maybe in a few years he will get there. That said, I find it hard to fault Time to Say Goodbye, I Dreamed a Dream and Over the Rainbow which definitely suit Joe. I remember it being said on X-Factor that Joe is a West End Musical star and maybe this is where his forte lies. All said, I still think Joe will have an amazing singing career and wait to see what comes next.
