1.0 out of 5 stars No Info, 28 Sep 2013

There are no clever tips or ideas in this e-book - basically it tells you to cut a plastic bag into strips - and doesn't even give a good / time saving method - google it you'll get far better info

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Writer's Resource, 3 Sep 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I would recommend this book for people writing paranormal stories and anything which includes magic. The questions it asks you really clarify and help solidify the "rules" underpinning your worlds and have produced a flurry of vital background info which has strengthened my plot immensely. It's very accessible, a very quick read. The section on cliches is also really helpful, identifying weak areas with character or plot. I own other Writer's Digest books and this is of a similar high standard.

5.0 out of 5 stars HP meets literary theory!, 29 Dec 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I've been interested in critical theory since I did a degree in English Literature, and have been a big fan of the Harry Potter books since fairly early in the series.

My degree had never touched on the literary alchemy tradition and I found these lectures by professor Granger fascinating. Recommended for anyone who wants to understand more of the symbolism of HP - as an introduction to alchemical symbolism in literature from Shakespeare onward - or for those who want ammunition to support their love of "kids stuff"!

Written in a very accessible style as well - I wish all my text books had been like this! I shall certainly be buying more of Granger's work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious, 17 Dec 2010
This review is from: Black Books: Series 2 [DVD] (DVD)
Hilariously funny, but sadly very short series (only 6 episodes)showcasing the talents of Dylan Moran, Bill Bailey and Tamsin Greig. All 3 series are available together as a very reasonably priced boxed set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super bright light, 17 Dec 2010

This review is from: 45 Watt Bayonet B22 Bulb
I bought this bulb for my main bulb for my craft room. It is incredibly bright. I had thought of getting a higher watt energy saver, glad I didn't as anything brighter might be unbearable in a normal sized room.

It provides great light to work from, highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Art/Design reference, 14 Jun 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book (just a little bigger than A4) contains all the colour plates (no text) from Owen Jones classic - The Grammar of Ornament.

It contains examples of decorative border and patterns from a wide range of historical civilisations, including Greek, Oceania, Assyrian, Chinese, Renaissance, Medieval, Indian, Moorish, Egyptian.

A great resource for anyone interested in pattern, history of design, as a companion to the main book, or to use for inspiration for your own work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Inspirational Resource, 18 May 2010

This is a collection of photographs of ceramics with an animal motif. The majority are 3D pieces (sculptures to teapots) but it includes a few tiles and plates decorated by 2D animals. Styles range from representational to highly stylistic.

A huge range of work is shown, made by a wide range of methods. There are no step by step photos, just finished pieces, but most pieces state that they are slab built, thrown, coiled, or cast and note materials and glaze/finish so if you have an idea about ceramic construction already you can see how they've been made.

Great inspiration for anyone who works figuratively in clay or other mediums. For students especially this is a goldmine of ideas. I shall be getting other books in this series, I am so impressed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Fantasy, 8 Jan 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Hart's Hope (Paperback)
This brilliant book has instantly leapt into my top ten! The story is excellent, characters compelling, and the way the story is unfolded for us interesting.

As with the best fantasies a much larger world is suggested than we actually see, making it so much realer to the reader.

This is not a sword and sorcery epic and no buckles are swashed. Expect an intelligent, introspective fantasy which is more tragedy than adventure.
