Polycotton Hollowfibre Duvet/Quilt, 4.5 Tog, Single
Polycotton Hollowfibre Duvet/Quilt, 4.5 Tog, Single
Offered by Linens Limited
Price: 5.44

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware - too thick to be suitable for Summer use, 2 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Bought this to replace an old 4.5 tog summer weight quilt from Argos which is on its last legs. Unfortunately, this is far too fluffy and heavy - not really any less than my 10.5 winter duvet. Not at all suitable for its intended use but the dog will be enjoying a nice new doggie bed.

Dunbar and North Berwick (OS Explorer Map Series)
Dunbar and North Berwick (OS Explorer Map Series)
by Ordnance Survey
Edition: Paperback
Price: 5.59

2.0 out of 5 stars Seriously out of date, 30 April 2014
This map is now 8 years and seriously out of date with all the new dual-carriageway stretch of the A1 missing. There has also been a considerable expansion of the East Lothian core footpath network which isn't indicated here either. All in all, don't buy. Wait for a new edition.

3.0 out of 5 stars Is it just me, or is the AA road atlas easier to use?, 27 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Beautiful mapping to look at - the shaded relief mapping in particular really give a feel for Ireland's mountainous regions - but it is not an easy atlas to read on the move. Too much detail? Having bought both this and the AA Road Atlas, it's the latter which gets the most use.

The Architecture of Ireland: From the Earliest Times to 1800
The Architecture of Ireland: From the Earliest Times to 1800
by Maurice James Craig
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Even now the standard work, 27 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Definitely the best introduction to Ireland's built heritage, a must-have work for anyone with any interest in Ireland's architectural history.

Ancient Ireland: Exploring Irish Historic Monuments
Ancient Ireland: Exploring Irish Historic Monuments

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful photography but maybe not so good as a practical guide, 27 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
First the positive. The photography is beautiful and the pictures do inspire one to want to go and see the place depicted in person. BUT there are also negatives, the biggest of which is that there is rather less text than I had hoped for in a book with the word 'exploring' in its title, and particularly a lack of practical information for would-be visitors (location, accessibility, etc.) For that, can't help thinking that Damien Noonan's Castles and Ancient Monuments of Ireland is better, as well as being a smaller, softcover and thus more easily portable on excursions or holidays. I guess the two compliment each other, with Ancient Ireland the tome that sits at home to plan the trip and as a souvenir when one returns and Noonan the book that actually gets packed in your bag.

3.0 out of 5 stars Meh ... very subjective and oddly selective, 27 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Mixed feelings about this edition of Lonely Planet. Definitely feels less comprehensive than previous editions of the Ireland guide. There are MAJOR tourist sights - especially of the historic buildings variety - which aren't even mentioned and I also feel that the where to stay and where to eat sections are becoming elitist. Do we all want top end boutique hotels and 'parlour restaurants' all the time? What about more middle of the road options? Or do we have to buy the Rough Guide for those these days.

5.0 out of 5 stars They really do work, 12 Mar 2014

For the sceptics amongst you, these things really do work. No more excruciating pain as the plane descends to land. Would no longer fly without them.

Road Atlas Ireland (Aa Road Atlas)

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the bunch, 12 Mar 2014

Can heartily recommend the AA Road Atlas Ireland. Very clear and easy to use, which cannot be said of its main rival the OSI road atlas. Town plans also very helpful.

Ireland From The Air
Ireland From The Air

Edition: Hardcover

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 8 Mar 2014

This review is from: Ireland From The Air (Hardcover)
Very partial coverage and, given the hefty dimensions of the book, rather too many small photos. There are much better books of aerial photos of Ireland on the market. Avoid this one.

The West of Ireland: A Photographer's Journey
The West of Ireland: A Photographer's Journey
by Carsten Krieger
Edition: Hardcover
Price: 14.80

3.0 out of 5 stars Meh - there are better out there, 8 Mar 2014

Found this to be a rather mundane collection of photographs in comparison with other volumes of similar currently on the market. Only glad I bought it second-hand, rather than at the RRP which seems grossly inflated.
