George Foreman 12205 Entertaining Removable Plates Grill - Silver, 6 Portion
George Foreman 12205 Entertaining Removable Plates Grill - Silver, 6 Portion
Price: £79.33

4.0 out of 5 stars This is an excellent grill and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to reduce their fat intake but still enjoy food., 19 May 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What's this?)
I had a 2 portion George Foreman grill already, but chose this larger one as would be useful when cooking for larger numbers of people or for bulky cooking eg vegetables etc. This 6 portion one is for several reasons much better than the old one:

Cleaning the older version was really difficult, but this one is easy as the plates are removable so easy to wash. The larger portion size meant I could cook for the whole family at once.

The shape of the drip tray was better than my last which didn't always catch all the fat.

The temperature control and timer is great but I just have to learn how to use it better, as too high heat or cook too long can make the food too hard. I also like the fact it is more energy efficient, as it cooks quicker than grilling in combined oven/grills.

I like the scoring effect it gives food as it reminded me of barbecued food, however my guests didn't think it replicated barbecue flavor and the food can be a little dry. I still preferred it, but some of my guests missed the fatty flavor they were used too from other conventional methods.

Finally, whilst I like the size for family cooking it does require quite a bit of space in the kitchen but is attractive, blending in with my other kitchen items and has a nice chrome finish. The recommended price was fair enough but a smaller cheaper grill might prove better value long run if the large portion size isn't required.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does the job and reasonable price, 16 May 2013

Two of the three were perfect, and one had slight roughness on the metalwork, but it is not in an area where the cakes will sit, but it is worth noting.

The way the rack frame is made the frames jut out a little further than the rack itself, which might be a problem for someone. I have a little room spare in the box I intend using so it is fine. Since buying this set of three I bought a different make which I chose as it was for another size of box I use to store cakes in, and that ones frame was upright (the rack is black I don't think I can name it but it is currently on sale as I write this review).

It is very much horses for courses though, as I think by having the frame that juts out it makes the cake rack more stable with the stands far less likely to fold inwards and I trust it more.

2.0 out of 5 stars It is a lock and lock so airtight but there is a silly pair of wheels, 16 May 2013
Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this to store my cakes in after cooling but before wrapping. Because it is lock and lock which I use a lot for my ingredients, I know it is going to be airtight which was why I chose it.

What I failed to notice from the image, and also because wheels were not in the title, was that there is a pair of wheels on one end. And because there is no chassis for these surface mounted underneath, the chassis is built into the inside of the container. This means you cannot place soft cakes on the chassis 'bump' as you would risk their getting a bump in the base from the wheels chassis. It also means there is not a flat surface throughout the container base interior which I find really annoying. I think I can work around it by using a rack but this means I wont be using the entirety of the container and given that this container cost the best part of 30 quid I am not a happy bunny.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as strong as I hoped it would be, 16 May 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What's this?)
I chose this as I thought I might try baking with it but it was not strong enough a flavour. I have eaten maple syrup biscuits a lot over the years and there is no way I could get the flavour with this product, Having said that, I give it an ok rating as it tastes really nice, and, I love the packaging; a really clever idea to use the flexible pouch it takes up hardly any room and indeed as they said, it fitted through my letter box!!

1.0 out of 5 stars It's horrendous, 27 April 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What's this?)
Veet is a brand I know and trust. I have used Veet hair removal cream for years, which I use for when I am going on holiday or away for more than a couple of days. generally I shave with soap and water and a disposable razor. So I looked forward to using their new wax roll on kit.

I read the instructions and when 20 minutes had elapsed I applied the wax. It took a while to come out and so I put it back on to heat for another 5 minutes as directed. Still tricky to come out but I managed it. I applied the strip as soon as I has applied each strip sized amount of wax and I pulled it as directed with the skin taut.

The result was not good. A sporadic amount of hairs only were removed, maybe half or two thirds tops. Worst of all, the wax residue did not come off with the Veet removal wipes! I was left with loads of chewing gum consistancy blobs over my legs, which I had to scrub off. Even opening brand new wipe after another did not improve matters, they are obviously useless. When I saw the result, only a partial hair removal I knew I then had to do a wet shave as the product said do not apply twice, and if I would have used the Veet hair removal cream that probably would have amounted to the same thing. So I ended up having to do a wet shave in order to get a total leg hair removal, and spent ages trying to get the residue off.

This product is, as the title says, horrendous and I cannot recommend it. Use hair removal cream or do a wet shave.

3.0 out of 5 stars just about ok but maybe the kitchen mixer falls between two stools, 20 April 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What's this?)
This appliance comprises a kitchen mixer and a blender. The manual refers to a grater assembly but this is not supplied. The bowl size is 3.5L. The full size appliance this is the compact version of has a bowl of 4L ie not that different. The materials the tools are made of are quite different - the ones supplied here are mostly plastic and have a cheap look to them with some rough edges whereas the full sized machine has metal attachments and though not tested by me look more robust on the pictures.

However, this machine costs about a third less at the time of writing and it has some good points going for it in addition: the non slip suction feet work a treat, the machine is easy to use with a positive click when fully open, and dealt well with the full amount of cake mixture that I tested it with. I used the fullest permissable amount - a 4 egg Victoria sponge mix.
On the minor side, when I was creaming the fat and sugar, there was lots of this accumulating on the edges of the bowl. Once I added the eggs and flour however, it dealt with the mixture well and it soon turned a nice light colour.
The cakes turned out light and even in texture.

Another negative I am afraid: it was not very nice having to pull the used attachment out of the mixer when I am used to having an eject mechanism of mixers. Also the lip to stop the flour rising up has too small a tray so you end up having to spoon minute amounts of flour into it and most of the flour sits on the lip and you have to move that too.

I would not buy this mixer as it is not robust, promises more than it delivers - in addition to the issues adding ingredients via the anti splash lid inlet, there was also lots of flour at the back of the mixer where the lid did not cover the bowl and on the front of the machine. It does come with a blender too but I probably would not want to get the whole thing out of the cupboard when I can get my stick blender out in a trice.

3.0 out of 5 stars A little disappointing but does work, 15 April 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What's this?)
This works fine, but it is nothing to get too excited about. Pros are it comes with its own microfibre cloth which is removable, and a little scrubbing brush for corners, cons are it is really hard to push the handle down to operate the wringing out mechanism and it is is really hard to actually use the scrubbing attachment as the mop is heaviest 90 degrees from where the brush is, so you have to resort to touching it to get the brush to be on the floor, which is decidedly yukky to do unless you happen to be wearing gloves - which is unlikely if you are using a mop as I think the idea of using a mop with a 'squeegee' (wringing out mechanism) is so you don't have to hold and wring out a cloth in the first place.

It does work, however, so I give it an ok rating. Just could have been a lot better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of drying line length I am very happy with this, 15 April 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What's this?)
This is the biggest rotary drier I have ever seen. the amount of line on it is massively long! It collapses when needed so you can store it in your conservatory or shed. You just need to fit the base into the ground one time, then once that is firmly anchored, insert the drier into it, pull the red tab cord and it erects. To fold it up again, insert a finger into the loop of the side clip (on the folding mechanism where the pull cord originates from).

If you have a small garden like mine, it is so big that it is safest to go for the middle of it. I already had a hole where my old rotary drier was used, which was not, and it only just fitted with a little clipping of the shrubs!! It was about 2 feet longer wide than my old one. I worked out I could dry not one but two good sized washing machine loads with it (average mix of shirts trousers and undies.) which means you can get the washing dry as fast as you can make it, weather permitting (it can't fix that!)

I love the way it gets all that washing dry in one go, without paying out on electricity for the tumble drier - with my old rotary drier because it could only dry half the amount by the time you got to load two you had lost so much of the day that you would have to tumble load 2. I also like the flip top cap that the base has so lawn clippings etc don't fall in it.

It folds up and unfolds really cleverly. Only snag I can think of and it is small, is that maybe a nice teal coloured plastic cover should have been included, but I will probably make one so I can leave it out but protected from the weather.

5.0 out of 5 stars All that I hoped for, 20 Mar 2013
Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is deep enough that it can be used for a stir fry yet shallow enough to get your fish slice or spatula under your fish or egg.

The idea behind the red spot with lines in the middle of the pan is the lines disappear when it is hot enough. Works a treat for me and takes the guess work out of it especially good when the environment is noisy as then you cannot easily hear the special sizzle of the oil!

This cleans easily, and is heavy quality. The handle is slightly padded with a special plastic and it is a lot more comfortable than my old (15 year plus) tefal was.

I think this will last me a while too as the quality seems to be there. The pan washes well, and the depth of it is everything I hoped it would be as though my old one was scratched up the depth was the reason I decided to buy a new one - I am into stir fry these days.

5.0 out of 5 stars really non stick and heavy quality, 20 Mar 2013
Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I love these. I make mince pies and mini pies in mine and the pastry always is crisp and they turn out easily it is so non stick, even with the sugary mixture if it oozes out and it cleans easily also.

The size of them is just right about 4cm diameter they look so cute!

I have two of these as I bake a lot and they are used a lot and they still look like new. Just don't ever use metal on them and you will be fine. These are top quality and deserve to be looked after.
