4.0 out of 5 stars Their Final Bow!, 12 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Normally, I would have accorded this series five stars, but I was annoyed to see that Daphne's loathsome brother put in an appearance together with equally annoying Robbie Coltrane and Richard E Grant gatecrashing the party as her two other brothers. As a Brit, I find the characterization of Daphne's English relatives far too stereotyped, to the extent that I found them not funny, but annoying bordering on offensive (this remark applies to other series in which they appear). More time could have been given to KCLA's stock characters (Bulldog & Co.) and perhaps to extending the final scene (see below).

But, apart from that blemish, the episodes were excellent; back to the best of earlier years. Thankfully, gone was the overdramaticization with Frasier hamming his way through in the style of King Lear on acid! As other reviewers have remarked, the final episode is a touching and sad farewell to a much loved group of friends. The last scene could have been less ambiguous: Frasier's heart (left in Chicago not in San Fransisco) rules over his head, we think, but lacks a final appearance of the lovely Laura Linney to leave us in no doubt...

Season 11 completes my Frasier collection, which is the ONLY series of any kind for which I have had to have the complete set! I feel like I have made some very close friends, who I will never meet again: what becomes of them all? ... ah well, I shall just have to go back to episode No. 1 and start all over again.

This review is from: Frasier - Season 10 [DVD] (DVD)
Frasier and the gang started to go lose their way with Series 6 and were completely adrift by Series 8. Series 9 and 10 are much improved: now I'm into Series 11, which although 'different', is really continuing the improvement.

This is how the Polovtsian Dances pieces should be played with a real sense of danse and a good 'atmosphere'.

1.0 out of 5 stars SKY HD Box Problems, 23 Nov. 2010
From all of the reviews that I've read one common thread arises: the boxes and cabling are cheap and not the sort that we would buy for ourselves, given the choice. Sugar made his pile selling Amstrad computers; neither they nor the Amstrad STB that I have are good quality (in my opinion). Of course SKY maintain that their equipment is OK, but they would say that, wouldn't they? (PS rogue boxes not rouge, as one person calls them.)

The same problems occur whatever the make of box you have. So, the problems are almost certainly software related. You can load the "latest version" directly to your box (refer to SKY help for details) but what is the correct/current version for any given box type? I've done this once; no help.

So, we are stuck with the problem. Having a quad LNB I find that the best solution is to watch Freesat on the TV receiver until any current recordings on the SKY box have finished. Then switch back to SKY, and hold down the Standby button on top of the SKY box for a few seconds until it turns itself off. Go make a cup of tea, come back and press SKY on the remote. It then goes thru' all that boring start up stuff for a couple of minutes until your program guide etc are reloaded.

The only other solution would be to find a quality STB (not supplied by SKY) with a suitable card slot ... does it exist?

5.0 out of 5 stars Question Time, 18 Jun. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have just finished viewing all 3 of the Monarchy series and have had Henry VIII for afters. Dr Starkey is in top form as usual but is the original program seems to be a bit on the short side, especially concerning Henry's last two wives. The editors may be at fault here.

Anyway, David keep up the good work and stay beligerent. I loved you on question time - hurrah for plain speaking!
