Iron Man: My Journey Through Heaven and Hell with Black Sabbath
Iron Man: My Journey Through Heaven and Hell with Black Sabbath

For me this lacks detail and an understanding of WHY Tony Iommi is the musician he is. There was nothing to influence him into becoming Black Sabbath other than Bert Weedon and The Shadows?? The desire to play very loud was no more than to stop people chatting through the live set??

The sniping at Tony Martin does come out of the blue and is surprising. Martin is a great singer. spent years with Sabbath and made several albums with the band. Martin and Iommi seemed (musically) well matched. But its all pretty much negative comments about him from Iommi and they do jar, and seem very one sided. Why work with him in the first place, then? I'm sure the "Cat" issue is also backward - Martin was "the Cat" before joining Sabbath, then dropped it, not becoming "the Cat" afterwards?? Miaaoow. (For a more balanced account of this era read Never Say Die by Gary Sharpe-Young - that is an excellent book full of the detail so sorely missing here).

Why did Born Again sound like it did? The answer is here. It was all Gillan's fault.

Why was Forbidden so awful? Not so easily answered.

You get the impression Iommi spent hours being recorded talking about his past, then someone had the job of transcribing it down into a chronological narrative. But transcribed too literally at times. Reading it isn't always the same as hearing it. Sometimes the inflections of speech get lost on the page. Thoughts behind the words - these are missing??

A good album to listen to right through. A few standout moments to grab the attention but works well as a background noise.

Time flies so still think of this as a recent release. Prefer it to Rick's last, which had the great Sometimes and If 6 Were 9 but the rest was not as enjoyable as Deluxe.

More please Mr Derringer.

This is a favourite of the children. Yes heard most of it time and again in other products, but this offers a good collection (all live plus some new studio inserts).

I think this might be the last CD Sam was the yellow Wiggle before leaving.

The print is too small and rather than have one or two staves (I think they be called) per section of music, we are treated/swamped with half a page of clutter. Does anyone need this much detail? Just tab the two main guitar lines - thats all we want.

I feel mean for knocking this, as there is precious little Lizzy stuff out there. But even the song selections are not enough - not even the Dedication track itself. And even Sarah is the wrong version!!

Should have been very good, but really this is destined to stay unread/unused.

ORIGINAL GARY MOORE: An annotated guide to the guitar technique of Gary Moore

Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Wish I still had my copy!!, 20 Sep 2013
I remember spending hours/days working on the End OF The World solo.

Wish I still had the book now. Still can't play but a very good book. Gary Moore and Randy Rhoads were great - which makes Wolf Marshall incredible.

At a fair price this would be worth buying again (clue: less than 20)

I always use those words when I finish one book and need another.

Reacher says nothing.

With the fortune of time on my side, there's about 16 Reacher books to be discovered and read, one after the other.

Reacher says nothing.

One Shot was the first and got me hooked straight away. Thank you Tom Cruise for creating the marketing to pull me in.

Reacher says nothing.

Wham Bam! The bad guys get it right in the nuts. Every time.

I reckon a showdown with Nick Stone would be a franchise winner.

Reacher says...

Time has gone in a flash so recalling the excitement & fun of records like this, from over 30 years ago, is no problem. There's nothing else out there nowadays that comes close.

Released at the time of the power metal classic Power Supply, 1980 was THE year for metal records. John Thomas' ball-vibrating guitar is perhaps the most underated of rock history. Hats off to Burke Shelley too for embracing this far heavier brand of Budgie rock.

Hope this release indicates more gems will be released, and that Burke & John are doing well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, 12 Jun 2012

I was expecting a musical show based around the music of Budgie, much in the same vein as Queen's We Will Rock You.

I didn't recognise any of these tunes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Metal, 27 April 2012

A truly classic recording. Great songs, melodies and performances.

A well deserved CD release.

However, the live footage does disapoint - its not exactly "live as we know it". A big negative, as it was the main reason I bought this double disc.

If you know the music, you will know how great it is. If you don't, then buy it and get educated!
