4.0 out of 5 stars Lmao, 8 Aug 2012
A cracking read with enough humour to keep you chuckling right up to the last page. I didn't want to put it down, a real page turner. I couldn't wait to see what could possibly happen next, and it usually came as an unexpected surprise.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bed time Pleasures, 19 Jun 2012
This review is from: A Squash and A Squeeze (Paperback)
The rhyming is lovely, the illustrations funny and the story is funny and warm. My son is a bit young for the lesson of appreciating what we have, but he thinks a cow dancing on a table is funny enough.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fill in the blanks, 14 Jun 2012
This review is from: The Gruffalo (Paperback)
It is brilliant for helping young children with rhyme and helps them with expression and timing in their reading.
We have three different copies in our house and all are well used.It is the one story we can tell our children without even looking at the pages and they often fill in the blanks.

This was a present for my husband and son who have seen them all and they enjoyed this film very much. But they love this sort of thing, if I want some peace and quiet I just put this on and their both transfixed for hours, four stars for that if nothing else!

4.0 out of 5 stars the Kids love bed time now, 12 April 2012
I really like it when a book starts with a preposterous scenario, like a tiger knocking on the door and asking to come in, and kids don't even bat an eyelid! That is the magic of children's books for me, and you can tell when a book does it really well, and your kids just hang on every word, and study every picture. Top marks for this book, the kids love me reading them this book at bed time.

5.0 out of 5 stars OOOHHH JDepp, 26 Mar 2012
The film has everything for everyone, action, special effects, comedy, love story and even better and actual plot behind it all that rolls on at a pace everyone can enjoy without getting lost or bored. The cast for the film is almost perfect, and I love the amount of Britsh Talent in the film.
The four main stars of the film are Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley and Geoffrey Rush. Out of all of them Bloom is the one off the pace (Maybe he had sea sickness like half the cast which hindered him.). Keira puts in a great performance as the Damsel in distress. Rush plays the bad guy of the film with a passion. Johnny Depp well as said by so many is the character of the film. His portrayal of Jack Sparrow his own protrayal not a scripted one really makes this film. He steals every scene he is in by making it impossible to focus on anything but him. If he's lurking in the background you are watching him and listening to the foreground. He has the best lines, the best gags and the best action sequences although I assume most of those were stunt doubles.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stranger Tides, 30 Jan 2012
If you ever needed proof why you shouldn't listen to critics, the Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, part 4 in the series, is it. Part 2 and part 3 received quite a thrashing from critics despite still cashing in pretty big at the box office. So, there's no reason why they would treat part 4 any different. But that's just it. It is different. Without Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, whom you won't even miss having in this film, you should expect a new storyline and new characters and that's exactly what you get. Barbossa and Gibbs are back, but other than Captain Jack, Jack the Monkey, and even a cameo from Jack's father (Keith Richards), you have a whole new cast of characters.

The film picks up with the same plot where the last one left off, with the Fountain of Youth being the focus. Captain Jack escapes the gallows with Gibbs only to discover someone is impersonating him and getting a crew together to go find the fountain. The imposter turns out to be Angelica Teach (Penelope Cruz), the daughter of Blackbeard (Ian McShane) who wants to find the fountain to save her father from a doomed prophecy.

Angelica and Jack apparently have a past love interest together and she tricks him into joining the crew because she knows he has the map and that he's been to the fountain. But to get the spell of the fountain to work, they'll have to collect certain items that are needed, including the tear of a mermaid. So, the movie becomes a race for Blackbeard's crew, the Spanish, and the English, to collect the items needed and get to the fountain first!

Blackbeard is a colorful and well played evil pirate. You can expect the same entertainment that you got from Davy Jones and Barbossa in the previous films. Cruz definitely holds her own in the cast of men. Depp is Jack through and through, prancing about and always cleverly escaping trouble. And Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa again is up to his old conniving tricks, undercover on the English side, despite having a peg leg now.

The movie provides lots of fast paced action mainly in the form of sword fights and doesn't rely heavily on special effects like the last film. And then there are the mermaids! The intense and evil beauties which provide a large part of entertainment in the middle of the film, and even a small romantic subplot that grabs your attention.

There's an equal amount of time spent on land and at sea, and although the movie had a slow start as it set up the plot, I would almost say this one was better than the last one. If you are a fan of the other films, you will definitely be entertained and think that this film is a great addition to the series.
