5.0 out of 5 stars Nerina Pallot - Fires, 9 Oct. 2015

When this album came out it was one of the best female singer/song writer albums to come out for a long time. First time I heard it, I just had to get it, since then I have collected Nerina Pallot's albums. This purchase was to replace the album as I lost the CD! Not a bad track on the whole album all good quality songs. The tracks that I find outstanding for different reasons are Everybody's Gone To War, Idahoo and Damascus. Smooth clear vocals with intelligent lyrics.
This was her second album which was released in 2005 and then reissued in 2006 with new artwork and remixes of the tracks. Her music is in her own style which is so unique that it doesn't make her commercial, hopefully she will make a great living from her music without being changed into a pop music puppet. Have a listen to the album and you will see what I mean, a really talented young lady who is going to be around for a while.

The debut album that shows the musical talents of Ella Eyre as a song writer and vocalist. From the album the tracks "If I Go", "Comeback", "Together" and "Good Times" have been featured as singles and have done well in the charts. I cannot say that any of the tracks on the album are bad or mundane all are gems in their own rite, An album that you like when you first listen to it and it only gets better with each listen! Well done Ella, a superb album. 10/10

5.0 out of 5 stars Hendrix Freedom: Atlanta Pop Festival, 9 Oct. 2015

Here we have Jimi Hendrix Playing at the Atlanta Pop Festival on the 4th of July 1970, the 16 track double CD rocks along with a lot of his old well known tracks and a couple of tracks promoting new material, from his what was to be numbers recorded on The Cry of Love album, released just after his death.
Although not exactly new tracks, a lot have already been previously released on the Stages Box set, on the disc 'Atlanta '70' with 11 of the tracks on that disc. Five additional tracks have been added to this double album, Red House, Message to Love, All Along the Watchtower, Freedom and Hey Joe. Most of the tracks can be found on various other albums under different guises, legit and not so legit labels with varying sound quality.
The sleeve notes were written by Bill Mankin who assisted in the stage construction and was on stage when Jimi played but the notes reflect the feel of the U.S. nation at the time and tells of the troubled times of racial tension and points out with Jimi being black playing in a southern state was quite a big deal at the time. One of the few sleeve notes that make an interesting read.
This could be enjoyed by somebody new to Jimi's music but overall it is the old-timers (such as myself) and the long time fans of Jimi who will be buying this album and enjoying it. Hard to imagine that Jimi passed away 45 years ago and his music still keeps his name alive. Great to hear his music on a good album such as this, with great sound quality, one of the better albums from Experience Hendrix machine.

Space Oddity (40th Anniversary Picture Disc) [7" VINYL]
Space Oddity (40th Anniversary Picture Disc) [7" VINYL]

5.0 out of 5 stars Bowie 40 years on, 9 Oct. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
40th Anniversary of Bowie's Space Oddity single. This was Bowie's slow climber to get to No.1 in the charts, released in 1969 and got to No.5 but was re-released in 1975 where it went to No.1 in the singles charts.
The A-Side has quite a colourful picture which looks like an amateurish hand drawn cover with a period picture of Bowie added in. You certainly will not be buying the single for the super art-work!
The B-Side has a period picture of Bowie with his long shaggy hair and that side has the track The Wild Eyed Boy From Freecloud. Lets face it we are buying it for the collection all be it 40 years later! Don't you just love marketing!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars House on the Hill by Audience, 5 Oct. 2015

I bought this album when it came out (in vinyl format) and loved the sound and feel of the album. After many years and losing a few great albums along the way I come across 'House on the Hill' rereleased in CD format, possibly Audiences best album. The album was first released in 1971 and the band managed to fly under the radar of being a 'big name band'. A great album that got away. The title track 'House on the Hill' has a mysterious flavour to it with a bluesy feel to the great vocals. Don't expect ripping lead breaks on electric guitar as there isn't any, main focus is acoustic guitar and other instruments (as well as an orchestra) but still in the rock framework. The whole album rocks on well starting with 'Jackdaw' and in all honesty there isn't a bad track on the album. The last track on the disc is 'Indian Summer' which did not feature on the original vinyl album but it adds nicely to the overall sounds and shades of a brilliant band from the 70's. Audience have a few albums out and if you like this album check the others out. One good point is that the album doesn't have a dated feel about it and you certainly wouldn't class it as an old album from way back when...it stands the test of time, it could have been recorded not so long ago with musicians who could play their instruments!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Wolf by Charles Mackie, 3 Oct. 2015

A terrific read, the pages just flow along nicely. A great novel about the Wolf of Badenoch who had the island castle on Lochindorb. This was fascinating for me as I have fished at Lochindorb and live nearby where all the action took place. Interesting to find out the history of your local areas. The novel takes in the plot and counter plot of the church, a weak puppet king on the Scottish throne and the men pulling the strings of the uncomfortable king. Based on the Wolf and his mistress Mariota and their five sons. A touch upon the crusades which links in to the Wolf and his demise. A story about a young priest and how he is taken in by the Wolf and then turned on by the same. The banishment of Mariota, thrown out of Lochindorb castle by the Wolf. A rough highland warrior who wants everything his way, a man who had the power of life and death over all who lived or strayed into his vast area of his domain. Read the book and see the trickery used by all in a means to an end, keeping ones territory.

The shy girl of pop has nailed it. Rebecca Ferguson, beautiful to look at and beautiful to listen to has departed from the pop side of music and has recorded a light jazzy album which Billie Holiday would be proud of. The songs originally recorded by Billie Holiday have been brought up to date by Rebecca, although not a total or dramatic change just sung the way it suits Rebecca. Love her previous albums and love this brave step into light jazz. Each album gets better and better. Well done Rebecca, maybe you have found your style but you have proved that you can sing light rock and pop as well as jazz.

I did not manage to see the film when it cane out so I decided to wait for the DVD to come out and I picked it up for £5. I sat back in my armchair in the comfort of my home and watched the film. What a really good film with no hold barred showing the horror, stupidity and the emotions when in conflict. This has to be one of the true to life films made about the second world war. Certainly not a chick-flick but definitely one for the boys. As usual Brad Pitt plays an excellent part and the fellow tank crew-members give him 100% backing in their performances. 10/10.

5.0 out of 5 stars Daughter of Lileth Gothic Vampire Calendar, 7 Sept. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A quirky Gothic styled calendar, with the daughter of Lileth as the character. A well detailed and beautifully painted winged vampire figure. The front piece of the calendar - the months and the numbers are easily changed to display the date. Overall a nice piece to display in the study, office etc. Certainly well worth the money. Very well pleased with the piece.
