As the title of my review suggests, Rusty Nock's novel did not disappoint. With such a fabulous title & intriguing back cover, I decided to digress from my usual type of novel & give this one a go. Certainly not for the faint-hearted, Rusty's novel is shockingly graphic when describing liasons between the leading characters & their pathways through life. This book doesn't pretend to be the best-crafted tale & the storyline is often far-fetched, however the humour & lighthearted feel, makes this book a pleasure to read. Yes,the book is crude, & it's packed to capacity with graphic sexual detail, but I loved it & recommend anyone brave enough to give this novel a go. Fantastic!!

A Long Journey Back
A Long Journey Back
by Chris R. Pownall
Edition: Paperback
Price: £5.99

5.0 out of 5 stars What an inspirational young man!, 7 Oct. 2011
This review is from: A Long Journey Back (Paperback)
Having read Chris Pownall's first book, I was very intrigued by the title & front cover of this one. This book is of a very personal nature as it describes his son's near-fatal accident many years ago, & the struggle & determination he endured to make a remarkable recovery. To write about a head injury, resulting in a coma & paralysis, must have been an incredibly moving experience for Chris, especially as the nature of it was so personal. Chris explains the events in great detail & strives to capture the emotions of both his son & close family. The story is incredibly moving & Chris handles the tale sensitively, & in surprising detail. In essence, I would describe this book in three words, INTERESTING, ENTHRALLING & truly INSPIRATIONAL. Well done Chris!

Being an avid fan of any new author brave enough to contemplate an autobiography, I decided upon the aptly titled 'Funny How Things Work Out'. This is a fascinating, colourful, brow-raising insight into the life of one man. The book is bursting with anecdotes, brave admissions and interesting factual information. Inspiring and addictive, I genuinely found this to be a thoroughly amusing and entertaining read. Highly recommended and I look forward to the sequel!
