3.0 out of 5 stars We need more werewolf movies, 3 Nov. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
First thing I must say is i am confused why this movie got an 18 rating, the voilence is more implyed than seen, granted you see corpses and cut off limbs but certainly not to a degree to warrent such a high rating.

This movie is not great but it's not terrible either, sadly we don't get enough werewolf movie so if your in the mood for a werewolf movie this movie might satisy the craving but dont expect much as there is no real charactor development nor a real indepth story. it is not scary nor particuly gorry
I give this movie 5/10

4.0 out of 5 stars a sequal that does justice to the original classic, 13 Oct. 2012
We all know the first is a groundbreaking classic but it is easy to forget how good the 3rd is considdering how poor the second was.
as much as i love Speilberg I do believe he destroyed what was a great book in the Lost World deciding to go with improved special effects due to upgrades in technology hence bringing TRex to San Diego wich never happened in Micheal Crichton's lost world

Sam Neil returns for the 3rd as Dr Allen Grant to lead an expedition he never knew he was going to lead to find a lost boy and the story is back where it belongs, a story of survival on an island of deadly monsters.
The big monster T-rex from the previous movies is nothing compared to the new Spinosaurus and this statement is made very early on when it kills the T-rex.
Some of the behavior from the people in this movie is a little weird and stupid and most likely a result of the original script being torn up 5 weeks before they commenced filming, though i don't think that is a great excuse to have everyone running around yelling out for others.
The action comes quick and regually and that is the strengh of this chapter and is pretty suspenseful and believable(if there was an island full of dinosaurs).
The bluray tranfer is spectacular and this is easily the most visually stunning and believable of all 3 movies, the only scene that looked fake was the opening parasailing scene wich is obviously a green screen.

I watched this with 3D conversion and really felt immersed in the movie and the 7.1 soundtrack is awesome.

4.0 out of 5 stars what would happen if everything electronic in the world just stopped working, 13 Oct. 2012
7/10
very interesting idea, 16 years after everything electronic in the world mysteriously stops working. The world becomes almost medievil with guns and is run by malitia.
Tracy Spiridakos in the lead roll of Charlie is the real highlight to the show, she is indeed stunning. Charlie is on a quest to save her brother who has been taken captive by the malitia and gains the reluctant help from her long lost uncle Miles.
At times the story can get a little cheesy, especially some of the sword fights, but it is only the first season and most sci fi shows dont tend to find their feet until the 2nd series and this show has plenty of potential and has cult following written all over it.
At the very least for the male population Tracy Spiridakos is captivating enough to give this show a go, fingers crossed it blossoms into its full potential

5.0 out of 5 stars They all must die, 13 Oct. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a highly original movie but starts as a giant cliche deliberately ticking all the cliche boxes and for a very good reason.
previously Sceam has revealed and poked fun at the horror formular, but ever wondered why horror follows the formular?
ever wondered what will happen if that formular is not followed correcty?
ever considdered the fate of us all depends on it?

We are teased through the movie about what is actually going as the factors and people are being manipulated to insure the formular is followed then something goes wrong leading to the final revolation that not only shed light on all the cliche's of this movie but every horror ever made that follows the status quo of horror story lines.

The final 20 minutes is crazy, you will either love it or hate it as it is cetainly not conventional and does borrow more from sci/fi than horror but reveals and unleashes many of our nightmares and fears and most hardcore horror fans will get a kick out of the many subtle referances, some will see it as out right silly, it comes down to personal taste and is that not what we want from any movie?

This movie is certainly not going to be everyones cup of tea, infact I was not sure if i should buy this movie or not based on the 50/50 reviews, it apears people either love or hate The cabin In The Woods, luckily for me I absolutley loved this movie, in my opinion it is easily the best horror movie in the last ten years and one of the all time greats, infact in a way it is every horror movie.

If you are after something original and differesnt than the normal horror movie give this movie a go there is a 50/50 chance it will blow your mind, then again their is a 50/50 chance you will waste your time but if your not the type of viewer to take a 50/50 risk then you will most likely fall into the latter catagore

3.0 out of 5 stars well it is Buffy afterall, 6 Oct. 2012
First you must realise this is a motion comic, not a cartoon, so you have to enjoy motion commics or this is simply not for you.
Its been a long time since the tv series has ended and reading some previous reviews i think some people have forgotten what Buffy was actually like, this motion comic does have some really silly storylines and at times even a little annoying but the same could be said about all the original series on tv, the true strenght of Buffy was always the charactors that we all loved irraguardless of what silly plots were going on.
I found this to be a welcome addition to my Buffy collection, some times silly some times gold, always entertaining and a little crazy.
as an artist i found the annimation visuals to be quite stunning with a great use of color and layers.
it is unfortunate that there has been no bluray release however bluray would not really add anything to it other than the disks being stronger and more sctratch resiliant. it wont enhance the the definaition nor the sound, it is afterall a motion comic

5.0 out of 5 stars A return to form for Dexter, 6 Oct. 2012
Season four with Trinity and the death of Rita in the final scenes was gripping and high quality TV and set up what should have been an even better season five, but five turned out to be a big dissapointment.
But season six is right back on track and in my opinion the best season yet, at first it is a little daunting considdering the time gap between seasons 5 and 6, alot has changed between but when you considder this show is a 12 episode season and there are 52 weeks in a year and season 4 and 5 were continueous it makes sense to advance forward, do we really expect to be waiting 40 weeks between seasons and have everything exactly the same?

Between seasons dexter has found his balance between being a father and also feeding his dark passanger so is in some fine form
The main storyline of the season is the Doomsday killers and their murders based on the book of revolation and overall the whole season has strong religious undertones but not in a way that its forcing it down our throats nor being disrespectful to those who are religious, and the way Dexter disects his own thoughts and feelings and questions the merit of religion is intriguing and entertaining.

The doomsday killings are gory yet artistic and very twisted and for me a real highlight for the season, to be living in a city where these types of killings were happening would truely be terrifying.

There are some great twist and turns in this season, if you like your tv to be predictable maybe this season is not for you. and the season ending cliff hanger is truelly a holly s#@t! moment and leaves you desperately wanting to get straight into season 7

As far as the other charactor development goes everyone seems to move forward, Angel and Quin make an interesting and highly entertaining partnership especially with both dealing with major personal set backs and their behavior is certainly not professional, especially Quin who goes completely off the rails.
Debra struggles with her new found responsibility especially having to deal with more politics while having to take a backseat to investigating where she is at home.

Not only is this the best dexter season yet but it sets up the coming final 2 seasons of Dexter perfectly and i for one am looking forward to the wild ride

3.0 out of 5 stars a corny yet entertaining zombie movie 5.5/10, 5 Oct. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Try not to go in taking it to seriously, its a good old fashion B grade zombie movie but I found it entertaining from start to finish. Bill Oberst, Jr. as Lincoln is fantastic and magnetic and holds the entire movie together.
Granted the majority of acting is very average but the story keeps the actors within their limits not pushing them beyond what they can deliver so it never really gets annoying.
there is very little charactor development but hey its B grade zombie movie what do you expect?
The zombies arre actually very cool and more believable than the living in this movie, the make up is great and is a real strong point, even the effects of them being shot in the head is of good quality, though they were decapitated far to easily but that is part of the charm.
if your after realistic stick with the remake of Dawn of the dead, Zombieland or most recently the Dead. but if your after a fun entertaining zombie romp in the same vain and quality of the evil dead series then give this movie a go, you might find yourself pleasently surprised
My only real dissapointment is the audio is only 2.0, not entirely sure how a movie filmed in widescreen HD doesnt come in 5.1 but I overcome this to a degree by turning on the 3D sound effect on my home theatre system

5.0 out of 5 stars the guilty pleasure continues, 21 Sept. 2012
graphicly violent, graphicly gory, graphicly sexy, this series can never be accused of holding back and will offend many, many people and I pitty the offended as this is a very entertaining and captivating series and a reward to those who are not faint of heart who give it a go.
initially this season is a little awkward at the beginning following the real life passing of season ones sparticus Andy whitfeild. As sparticus Andy was charasmatic and bought great heart and humanity to a world of violance. Replacing Andy is Liam McIntyre, Liam had huge shoes to fill and he fills them admirably and makes sparticus his own without straying to far from Andys Sparticus, surely not an easy feet.
In this series Sparicus leads the slave rebelion in a war against the Roman's, i don't really want to discuss to many of the plot lines, watch it for yourself, you will be entertained.
RIP Andy

5.0 out of 5 stars the perfect Halloween movie, 21 Sept. 2012
This review is from: Trick 'r Treat [DVD] [2007] (DVD)
A halloween graphic novel turned movie. Zombies, warewolves, a serial killer and a pumpkin boy.
This is a handful of short interwoven stories, not really scary more a celebration of halloween lore and traditions and bad karma to those who do not respect them.
Trick r treat is visually stunning and introduces a new horror icon, Sam, who is always on scene or close by when things go bad on this night.
It is now a tradition of mine to watch this movie every halloween as it sets the mood of this day perfectly, fun and creepy with a little touch of darkness
