The Druid's Primer
The Druid's Primer
by L. Eastwood
Edition: Paperback
Price: £15.74

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical and genuinely useful, 13 Sept. 2014
This review is from: The Druid's Primer (Paperback)
Most books on druids don't tell you much that is practical or really useful, this book does. Also this book concentrates a lot on Irish history and practice as well as Britain and Gaul (France). Most druid books I've read tend to focus on Welsh sources. Very handy to dip into as a reference book too.

The Journey
The Journey
by Luke Eastwood
Edition: Paperback
Price: £4.60

5.0 out of 5 stars Small but packs a big punch, 13 Sept. 2014
This review is from: The Journey (Paperback)
This tiny book condenses much of the wisdom of prophets and writers into a small space. This is combined with the author's own take on various themes on the meaning of life. A short read, but very insightful and well worth reading.

The Silent Pool
The Silent Pool
Offered by UKMusicFiendz
Price: £13.90

5.0 out of 5 stars Genre hoping Ambient/Dub/Breakbeat/House madness!, 10 Sept. 2014
This review is from: The Silent Pool (Audio CD)
I bought this back in 1995 when it was released. It's quite long and most of the tracks merge like on 'Dark Side Of The Moon'. It's not a typical ambient dub album in that it gets gradually faster from dub to full on trance before ending with total ambience. Works as a psychedelic listening experience or just as individual tracks, one of the best efforts of it's time I'd say.

Digital Mantras
Digital Mantras
Price: £9.97

5.0 out of 5 stars A great record to end on, 10 Sept. 2014
This review is from: Digital Mantras (Audio CD)
Their final studio album bears some similarities to The Silent Pool in that it is heavily influenced by Indian music, although it has a more spacey drum n' bass sound with only one trance track. Some good ambient and dubby tracks too.

Orbvs Terrarvm
Orbvs Terrarvm
Price: £12.23

4.0 out of 5 stars Atypical but still excellent, 2 Sept. 2014
This review is from: Orbvs Terrarvm (Audio CD)
This was a departure from the sound of 'Adventures...' and 'UFOrb' that made them popular. It was a brave move, exploring ambience far more than earlier material. You won't find a lot of house beats or heavy dub basslines here, but what you will find is some top-class ambient works. If you're not a genuine fan of ambient music (i.e. you prefer ambient house or ambient dub) perhaps it's best avoided, however I'd recommend it highly to anyone that enjoys the ambient/chillout genre.

The Orb's Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld
The Orb's Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld
Price: £9.83

5.0 out of 5 stars The seminal work of Ambient House/Chillout, 2 Sept. 2014
I could rave on for hours, but simply put, this album reinvented a genre pioneered by the likes of Pink Floyd and Tangerine Dream. Back in 1990 it was staggering in terms of production and use of stereo but it also had some wonderful melodies that The Orb themselves have never surpassed. This set the standard for chill-out music and ambient/mellow house and I suspect it will not be bested for a very long time if ever. If you buy one album of this type or by this artist make sure it's this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Close but no cigar..., 2 Sept. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Orblivion (MP3 Download)
As the feel of the artwork suggests, this is an attempt to return to the heyday of 'Adventures Beyond...' and 'UFOrb'. While it's competent and less ambient than the previous album, it lacks the melodic and harmonic pleasures of the first two albums. Basically - there are no good hooks or tunes, what we have here is complex layers of sound and lots of fiddly bits. The presence of Fehlmann and System 7 collaborators gives it a similar sound to later collaborations with the same people, which also suffer the problem of considerable length but not a lot going on melodically. Having said all that, this is not a bad album at all, it just fails to come anywhere close to the excellence of earlier work.

A Monk Swimming
A Monk Swimming
by Malachy McCourt
Edition: Paperback
Price: £11.33

5.0 out of 5 stars A very different McCourt indeed, 19 July 2014
This review is from: A Monk Swimming (Paperback)
Could not be more different from his brother Frank's autobiography but none the less brilliant. A riot of a read, both horrifying and hilarious, I couldn't put it down. One of the most enjoyable books I've read to date.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pop but not rubbish by any means, 2 Jun. 2014
This review is from: My Nation Underground (Audio CD)
This is by far Cope's most commercial album. A lot of Cope heads hate album this because there is little evidence of acid fueled madness here. However, although it's more mainstream than Peggy Suicide etc, these are great songs, well produced but without being cheesy. It's more upbeat without the tinges of paranoia and cynicism seen elsewhere. He's a versatile artist, flashes of this album can be seen in his later more varied work, but this showed he was capable of producing a entirely mainstream lp without having to sell out.

A Modern Celt: Seeking the Ancestors
A Modern Celt: Seeking the Ancestors

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent read from a personal perspective, 22 May 2014
Mabh Savage writes with a passion and sensitivity for the subject derived from her own personal experiences as well as her knowledge of Celtic myth and lore. This is the perfect book for someone starting out, wondering how they can bridge the chasm between modernity and the little-known practices of our Celtic ancestors.
