5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent printer, 27 Feb. 2014

This printer was simplicity itself to install. I am not a computer geek and want something that does what it is supposed to do and does not give me a headache trying to work out how to make it work. The Canon Pixma was ideal. Mostly intuitive but the quick start guide was a great help.
Basically though what matters with a photo printer is the quality of results. Right from the very first A4 print I was amazed at the quality achieved on a non-branded glossy photo paper. That test over I opened the box of Canon paper I had bought with the printer and started work. Brilliant! A second print through Lightroom with a printed caption was just as good.
So far I have been very happy with the results. Nothing to complain about. I had read the printer was heavy on ink usage but if the results are this good I`m not too bothered.
I would recommend this printer to anyone wanting to achieve quality prints at an affordable price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Case Logic KSB101 Backpack, 28 Dec. 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a well made, compact bag suitable for a lightweight day`s shooting. Able to fit a basic camera kit it provides good protection to the contents and the supplied waterproof cover is an added bonus.
Once I`d spent some time deciding how to pack two lenses, batteries, various small accessories, tripod and sandwiches I set off for a day in Dovedale. I rarely put the camera body plus standard zoom in a bag, preferring to keep it to hand. There are plenty of adjustable dividers which can be configured however you like. As soon as I got back Imade a number of changes ready for my next trip.
A wet, overcast day tested photographic vision and gear. The provided cover was left on all day long. I could not see any signs of water ingress so that was good. Plenty of straps made a comfortable and secure fit possible. The only downside on this score was the tripod mounting strap. My tripod is old and quite heavy so I found I was constantly checking its security. In future I would probably add an extra strap for added peace of mind.
There was much Ilked about the bag, its compact size, the waterproof cover, loads of pouches of various sizes for all the little things you always need but often lose at the bottom of bigger pouches. Because of the weather the bag stayed on my back so I didn`t get to use the sling function in `the real world` but I tried it at home and feel it could be useful on another occasion. This bag is designed for a lightweight kit. Often I take another camera body, lens and flashgun. This bag would not be able to cope but that is not what it is designed for. On the day it was ideal, small, comfortable and everything I needed easily accessible. Cold wet fingers are clumsy so being able to pull sips open easily is essential.
Will certainy be using the bag for lighter, on-the-hop, photo days when a bigger bag would be an encumbrance.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy, 19 Dec. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Bought this fpr recharging a GoPro. Item advertised as being supplied with 2 USB Cables (+2 USB Cables). Received order minus the USB Cables. The advertising is clearly misleading and potentially a misrepresentation of what is actually sold.
As it is you pay £16.49 (includig postage) for an item you can buy for £8 from Asda.
Currently waiting for response from Duragadget but very unhappy with purchase. Do not buy!

This is a great device. It`s extremely well made and for its weight does a fantastic job of holding a dslr with zoom lens attached perfectly steady. When a full size tripod is not convenient this small device is perfect. I`ve owned a couple of other small tripods of similar dimensions but they have never perfomed as well as this one. Given its enhanced versatility this wins every way. always in the bag.

The Ides of April: Falco: The New Generation - Flavia Albia 1
The Ides of April: Falco: The New Generation - Flavia Albia 1

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ides of April, 9 Mar. 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
On first opening this book I momentarily suffered a twinge of trepidation, almost bordering on anxiety. This book, `The Ides of April`is after all a new departure for Lindsey Davis though it is set in first century Rome and follows the adventures of an informer. So far this all seems familiar enough. What differentiates this story from previous Lindsey Davis `Falco` stories is that this one does not involve the hero Falco. This time it follows Flavia Albia, adopted daughter of Falco and Helena.
Plunging on I was quickly gripped by the story (incidentally, based on real life incidents as reported by Dio Cassius). There have been a number of unexplained and therefore unexamined deaths in Rome. Flavia accidentally becomes involved and her suspicions (and need for cash) encourage her to accept a commission to unravel the deaths. Though apparently natural coincidence seems to suggest the possibility that the deaths are not natural but rather, murder.
Like her familial predecessor Flavia faces obstruction from the authorities. Like Falco she has to be street-wise, tough, and the possessor of streaks of humanity and a sense of humour.
To be fair I was quickly convinced I knew who te killer was and I was proved right. However, this knowledge made no difference to my enjoyment of the story. Flavia is sufficently well drawn as to distance herself from Falco and there is clearly plenty of scope for further development. There is always a real pleasure in reading this author`s work . The Falco series deftly combined a historical backdrop to an engrossing story. There is always so much to intrigue: the historical scenery, the twists and turns of plot, the characters, the sense of actually being on the street with the protagonists, listening in, seeing what they see, smelling what they smell.
So I finished the book too quickly. Like The Falco books I was looking forward to the next as soon as I closed the book. In Flavia Davis has created a character ripe for further development. Can`t wait for the next instalment.

Rogue Master Lighting Kit

5.0 out of 5 stars Rogue Master Lighting Kit, 28 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Wanted a flash modifier that would be used for portrait and still life work. I`d looked at another similar system but decided on this one by Rogue. Early usage suggests I made the right choice.
Being primarily intended for location work the Rogue kit is ideal. It is extremely lightweight and the simple flat pack design means it can easily be stashed away whilt moving about. The fabric appears suitably strong being made of some kind of cordura material. The white reflective side of the panels cane easily be wiped down with a cloth when dirty or when used in a damp atmosphere (a cold, misty morning for example).
Being flexible the panels can be shaped exactly how you want. The panels can not only soften the flash`s light but also mould into around the model`s face. Effects can easily be changed by altering the degree of curve on the panel encouraging you to experiment. The diffusion panel softens the light even more. For a more concentrated light the smaller panel can be formed into a snoot, particularly useful as a hairlight. The honeycomb grid can, by changing the arrangement of the two grids give three different effects. Also included are two sets of filters. Most useful on the filters is the details of each filter`s light-loss in stops.
As of now I`ve not really noticed anything wrong with the kit. Perhaps further usage will throw up some niggles.
The kit came from RK Photographic. The parcel arrived on time and was very well packed. No complaints at all and would certainly look to this retailer again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ex-Pro 42`` Reflector, 20 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I wanted a multi-reflector aand diffuser and had considered a certain brand name product which receives a lot of complimentary attention. However, times being such as they are I knew I could not afford it. Seeing this 5in1 reflector at a price well below £20 I decided to take a chance.
So far I have no complaints. It may not be as robust as the dearer brand but for what I shall be using it for it is more than adequate. There are the usual colours: white, silver, gold, black and a diffuser. The 42`` size is ideal for catching as much as the poor light around at this time of year (dull and flat February) and bouncing it back onto the subject. Haven`t used the diffuser yet as I`ve only used it outside and there hasn`t been enough sun around to cause a problem.
The reflector springs open nicely and is easy to put away in its own carry bag.
Would recommend this to anyone else working on a budget but wants a 5in1 reflector.

I chose this set of gels after seeing them being used by someone else who recommended them. Glad I bought them. The kit contains correction gels, neutral gels and colour gels. They fit virtually all shoe mount flashguns and I`ve generally found they simply stay in place without any need for additional bands or tape (not yet tested in high winds). The price point is good. Well worth buying and then experimenting with them.

The Heretics (John Shakespeare)
The Heretics (John Shakespeare)
by Rory Clements
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars The Heretics, 9 Feb. 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Rory Clements new book `The Heretics` continues the adventures of John Shakespeare, Brother of William, as he fights against heresy and treason in Elizabethan England. As such it doesn`t disappoint as the story moves from London the Fens, to the West Country and back to London. On the way we meet some familiar faces whose presence gives a strong background and feeling of inclusiveness to regular readers. Wherever he goes and whoever he meets treachery is the watchword. There are criminals of all kinds and John is forced to question everyone`s motives and trust worthiness.
This story is set after the Armada but when England and the Queen are at risk from the Spanish without and Catholic recusants within. Initially asked to find a missing woman John is quickly embroiled in the plot to assassinate Her Majesty. The plot moves quickly and convincingly with lots of twists and turns. There is even time or John to begin a relationship with a beautiful lady. Even here though he is forced to question the lady`s true motives and the affair is left unresolved. However the daliiance does serve to give some relief from the sometime gory and horriying nature of John`s quest. The story does not hold back on the vicious, bloody nature of the fight. Though a historical thriller the author never forgets the story. Its difficult to not say too much when revelation is so much the enjoyment of the book.
Though part of a series the book could ewasily be read and enjoyed as a stand alone. However more will be gained by those who have read the earlier novels concerning John Shakespeare. The Heretics would certainly prompt me to go and get the earlier novels. Once again the author has produced a cracking good read set within a realistic historical setting.
