1.0 out of 5 stars Great Adventure, what about the horses?, 13 April 2011
This is an exciting adventure, well told in the main, and it succeeded in making me want to explore the US. I found the read shocking and saddening however, because of the suffering endured by the horses in the inexperienced hands of their trustees. Insufficient feed and rest for the animals was the norm in favour of keeping to budget and timescale. It was adventure for the boys at the cost of the horses. Good advice given to the authors about the welfare of the animals appeared to go unheeded. The Long Rider's Guild offers plenty of expert advice if anybody were inspired to follow in the author's foot(hoof)prints.

5.0 out of 5 stars A revolutionary book; a must read!, 26 Nov. 2009
This is the most groundbreaking and important book on approaches to horses that I have come across and it ought to be the first and last book any horse owner reads! Easy to understand yet truly revolutionary if applied. No horse need ever be a switched off, mildly resentful trekking mount again! Instead Imke Spilker demonstrates how all horses can return to the proud, spirited and noble creatures that we fell in love with as children; is this not their birthright? I could not recommend this enough.Empowered Horses: Learning Their Way Through Independence, Self-confidence and Creative Play

5.0 out of 5 stars Praise for Naked Liberty, 16 Nov. 2009
This review is from: Naked Liberty (Paperback)
This is an excellent title that clearly describes how an authentic, humane and ethical approach to horsemanship is possible. Carolyn Resnick is at the forefront of the current shift towards an enlightened relationship with our equine friends, and by extension with ourselves. This is essential reading for all horse people.
