Being a fan of Pretties for you and easy action albums I was quite excited at this release happening.
So, the first part which is taken from the soundboard I guess and is from 1/4" masters sounds great. The band is on form and they play stuff from pretties very faithfully to the originals. I understand that this material has been around in bootleg form for a long while not necessarily in the right order etc, but this is how the gig happened so historically its worth having. So this is the Toronto show, very good. The bonus material is appalling, not the actual songs , they are wonderful if you could hear them. Think of the worst bootleg you have heard, muffled, tape phasing. This is what the bonus stuff is like. I can see no point in releasing this stuff you will play it once and it will make you feel bad. Its a shame that easy action couldn't have found better sourced material. It certainly doesn't enhance the Toronto show. Still, worth getting for the Toronto show though.

What can be said that has not already been said ? A wonderful creative album from start to finish. Hauntingly beautiful songs, simple arrangements make this a jewel in the tyrannosaurus/T.rex cannon. What is the hidden gem is disc two, full of unreleased versions and home demo's which only add to the mystery and unfolding beauty that is beard of stars. Just goes to show you don't need a big production and a huge line up to produce a wonderful atmospheric album, this has it in bucket loads. Get it before it disappears.

I was given a packet of this incense at a festival and must say it seemed so familiar. A deep, woody, flowery aroma. This sticks are thick and very resinous and when they burn produce a lot of smoke. They are not sweet as nag champa but along the same lines. Well worth a try if you like exotic incense.

4.0 out of 5 stars classic Hawkwind, 28 Nov 2010
The golden age of Hawkwind, when the band was full of characters and pivotal musicians all contributing and adding their signature. The album opens with assault and battery/golden void, which is a total masterpiece, mellatrons, flutes, driving guitars and fabulous vocals. There are spoken word poems which has always been a Hawkwind trademark, recited by the likes of Nik Turner and Michael Moorcock, the latter who inspired 'Warrior' from his eternal champion writings. If your new to this band this is a good place to start along with the mighty Space Ritual album. I think its due for the atomhenge treatment soon, i.e. careful remastering, bonus tracks and sessions. But warrior stands on its own merits and is a truly wonderful album, buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Herman for president, 4 Jun 2010
This is just the tops. I originally saw the Munsters when i was small child when it originally ran on British TV. I was in awe, these guys and gals were so spooky and gothic (based on universals horror icons at the time, Frankenstiens monster, Dracula, the werewolf). All shot in black and white and this only adds to its appeal, like the original universal films. So yes its a spoof taking the Munsters to be you average American family (not), they think they are tho! Lots and lots of adventures with then all getting up to mischief and lots of tight spots. I am watching these with my young daughter, we laugh out loud and are total fans.
There are some great extras on the last disc, a full documentary and individual documentaries on Fred Gwynne, Yvonne DeCarlo and Al Lewis. These dvds are priceless and you get the complete works, get this while its still around totally recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars George should have been knighted, 4 Jun 2010
I used to have the vinyl of this concert for years and would play it regularly always noting how good it sounded and really getting a feeling of being there. I wasn't there I was 11 at the time of this concert. But I loved the album nevertheless. I always imagined what it looked like, the stage, the players the whole performance. So when it was released on dvd I had my chance and was not disappointed. For a start its wonderfully packaged in a slip case with a comprehensive booklet. The actual dvds are replicas of the original apple labels (nice touch).
The big surprise is Ravi Shankar and friends, such incredible musicianship a fabulous musical meditation. When George takes to the stage he is looking a bit nervous but when wha wha kicks in he is in his element. A great band behind him, Eric on guitar, Klaus Voormann on bass, Ringo and Jim Keltner on drums, Billy Preston on Keyboards (he does an amazing turn). Its just vibey from beginning to end, the first live aid really. If you like George Harrisons music then this is worthy in your collection. If you want a piece of rock history then this is a must. Truly inspirational.

5.0 out of 5 stars How it all began, 23 Aug 2009
This review is from: Glastonbury Fayre 1971 DVD (DVD)
This is probably the best version you are going to see of this classic film. The colour has been retouched and doesn't look all washed out as it has on some versions of it. Its a great document of the classic beginnings of the monster festival, some great interviews and footage of the bands. Particularly here Traffic are amazing and the opener by Terry Reid is pretty dam good. You can see the original pyramid stage under construction and you can see this once was a real grass roots event. Quite a film, but im sad there was no footage of Gong, Hawkwind, the Pink Fairies, Edgar Broughton or Mr David Bowie all who were in attendance, still well worth getting and there is also a documentary on the making of the film, which is very informative.

3.0 out of 5 stars snapshot of the hawklords tour, 23 Aug 2009
This is the Hawklords, not Hawkwind as the title suggests. Not alot of info on the cover to tell you much. I do know the gig was from the Plymouth poly in 1978, part of the Hawlords uk tour. The sound is really not bad and partners well the atomhenge release 'Hawklords 1978' because on this cd you have the version of Steppenwolf which is not on the atomhenge release, so a plus there. The quality is not as good as the atomhenge release but is perfectly acceptable. Well worth getting if your a fan, great version of spirit of the age.

4.0 out of 5 stars a great tour, 23 Aug 2009
This review is from: Live 78 (Audio CD)
I originally saw this tour in 1978 and it was a very powerful experience. Mr Robert Calvert was on top of his game here. This represents a very stripped down hawkwind, remember this was in the time of punk and the Hawklords relect this. Daves guitar is very chunky and punky and the songs are very contemporary, even for now they have alot of relavance.
The sound is very good and all the instrumentation is very clear in the mix. This is not the complete set as Steppenwolf, Robot and uncle sam are omited here which is a shame, however it dosent detract from this fabulous live album.

5.0 out of 5 stars it doesn't come any better, 30 April 2009
Thia is quite simply stuning. The interpretation of this epic book cannot in my mind be bettered. If you have seen the theatrical versions of these films then do yourself a favour and get this, each film is spread over two discs and the extra scenes are all integral to the story. There is no filler here.
Each film come in its own box consisting of 4 dvds, 2 are the film and the other two are the appendices. So much more than the making of sort of films, these go right into the heart of what this film/book is all about. Beautifully packaged and presented. Its way above 5 stars actually!
