William Bellman, a gifted and hardworking businessman has his life plotted on the trajectory of a stone fired from a catapult. Fantastic storytelling weaving mystery and myth with the Victorian obsession with death. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves the mysteries of nature and our relationships with wildlife surrounding us.

I loved this novel, didn't want it to end. Hilary Mantel manages to show iconic figures in history like Henry VIII, Cardinal Wolsey, Anne Boleyn and of course Thomas Cromwell in all their humanity. A Great read charting the rise to power of an extremely clever and shrewd man with an unlikely start in life. Eloquently debunking official historical accounts of her central protagonist's character as a ruthless and hard nosed thug by delving deeper into his personal life and reconstructing history through her own very talented voice. Hilary Mantel has written a large and intricate novel filled with humour and sympathy towards her characters.
