4.0 out of 5 stars Another dark masterpiece, 7 Feb 2014
This is a nice follow up to his last recording "Mapping the Wreckage", another spiritual and dark record to add to the collection which started with the excellent "Arkadelphia" (which is the best place to start if you are new to Rob Jungklas). So I suppose more of the same from Mr Jungklas but that's not a bad thing. Lots of slide and grungy guitar, desperate lyrics about the darker things in life, such a great lyricist is Jungklas, very enjoyable CD which will probably be missed by many and enjoyed by a few

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent follow up, 14 Jan 2014
An excellent follow up to the brilliant "In Memory of Loss" (which is a better record in my opinion) but somewhat different each track is an adventure the first time you hear it very melodic but with a little more in the way of a band on this album not so stripped down. The only criticism I can really offer is that some tracks have been recorded at to high a level and have peak distortion on them. So on a par with "The Weatherman" from Gregory Alan Isakov, but start with "In Memory of Loss"

5.0 out of 5 stars Guitar Album?, 4 Dec 2013

Hayward Williams has been compared to the likes of Springsteen and Ryan Adams but I get a sense of Paul Curreri which is no bad thing. Great guitar and vocals slightly raunchy like an acoustic album played on electric guitar. Excellent Americana recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars Best yet, 18 Oct 2013
Probably the most complete album to be released by RP I have had it on constant repeat since it arrived through the Kickstarter sponsorship of the album, no bad or weak stuff here all very enjoyable especially after a couple of listens recommended great if you like Sam Baker, Hayes Carll or Jeffrey Foucault a must for all Americana fans

A good album to buy while you wait for the next Bon Iver record, very nice indeed so much better than the first album much and more accessable. Try Acetate; Comrade; Byegone or the highlight the excellent Almanac....but there is not a bad track on this record. So a must for Bon Iver fans or even Midlake for that matter, recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not "Lie To Me", 4 Sep 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
So the first new album from Jonny Lang for 7 years and 16 years since the release of "Lie To Me" which at the age of 18 gave him worldwide recognition as a Bluesman Guitarist. This new album is just so far removed not only from that but even his last offering "Turn Around" yes I like the record, some great songs good guitar work BUT to me it's overproduced and far to "souly" for my taste, and maybe even a little to "pop", but it will probably grow on me as after all it is proper music.................

This is the follow up to the excellent The Empty Northern Hemisphere and very much like that album the artwork reveals the stylish music within. A lovely late night record very soothing after a hard day. GAI has such a dreamy voice and that with the lightest touch in accompaniment makes for an excellent record a bit like Nathaniel Rateliff or James Vincent McMorrow, well recommended.

Well after the recently released "Blues Funeral" from Lanegan if you were expecting more of the same then forget it this is very different, very much a vechicle just for Marks voice and Garwoods electic guitar. A great record and as the previous reviewer said a definite "grower", what a great voice the man has. So very slow laid back and southern bluesy. If you like either of these guys get this, or even if you like blues and good guitar get this, you will not be dissapointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Raw and emotional, 22 May 2013

The latest album from the Baptist Generals is much more musical than any of their previous offerings very much in the style of the famous indie classic "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea" by Neutral Milk Hotel. I realy loved their "No Silver No Gold" album but this is much more produced. Both "Dog" and "No Silver No Gold" were just lovely raw recordings (sometimes to much so for some) so if you are new to the band this is a great place to start. Americana indie at its very best so uncomercial and sadly only to be discovered and enjoyed by very few people. Highly recommended. I probably prefer the "No Silver.. album as you feel that you are actually in the room as they are recording the record.

Well what turn up, with such a quick follow up after "Among the Leaves" I did not expect such a fresh sopund from Mark Kozeleck. As long time fan since his days with RHP this "project" with Jimmy Lavalle ( with whose work I have to confess I am not familiar) seems to have given Mark a real sense of enthusiasm in his work. This is very good album from start to finish with an excellent blend between the electronic musical sounds of Jimmy Lavalle and the superb vocals of Kozelek. The sound sort of reminds me of Blue Nile and later Matthew Ryan records. If you are a Kozelek or Jimmy Lavalle fan you will love this,if not it may take a few listens, highly recommended though. If you are new to Mark Kozelek start at Ghosts Of The Great Highway
