5.0 out of 5 stars Kanye West proves that he's star quality..., 14 Mar. 2004
This review is from: College Dropout (Audio CD)
Behind the beats for such superstars as Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Talib Kweli and Scarface to name a few, Kanye West has stepped into the spotlight with his debut album; College Dropout. Only knowing of Kanye West strictly as a producer I was highly anticipating his first single "Through The Wire", looking forward to an innovative beat such as Dead Prez's "Hip Hop". However I never suspected he would possess the lyrical finesse that he displays not only on "Through The Wire" but throughout the whole album. Clever wordplay and meaningful lyrics triumph here with his second verse of "Through The Wire" winning him The Source's "Rhyme of the year award" for 2003. Every track is a winner here featuring other well known artists such as Ludacris and Jay-Z along with some lesser known talents such as Syleena Johnson ("All Falls Down"). This CD will have a home in my hi-fi for a long time and I look forward to his second intallment, but hoping his use of increased pitch vocals won't wear thin. Truly Kanye West is a rapper/producer and not the dreaded producer who raps or sings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Have This Album? You Ain't A Junglist Mate., 14 Aug. 2003
What should I praise this album on first?! For starters this is one of the finest collections of 'back-in-the-day' jungle hits that are bound to trigger nostalgia. Every tune on this CD is a classic in its own right and the way jungle tunes have a way of never boring the listener after countless repeated play stilll amazes me. You'll have this one in your car for ages until your non-junglist mate wants to play his new rap album and you'll have to use a crowbar to wrench the CD out of the player it's been in there so long! I've said enough about the tunes, I should say something about the DJ who mixes this CD; the notorious DJ Hype. DJ Hype completes this CD as he seems to have not just selected his fav tunes and bunged them onto a couple of CDs but instead orders and mixes them in such a way that you feel as you are on an emotional jungle-ride with something new every so often along the way. Each mix is crisp and natural and furthermore Hype's trademark third deck scratching brings your grin closer to each ear. At theend of a review I usually say something negative, however this has managed to somehow escape that criticism. Hold on. There is one way Hype could have improved Jungle Massive...a third CD.
I will look eagerly forward to a follow-up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing and what I'd expect from Teebone., 14 Aug. 2003
This review is from: Standard Procedure (Audio CD)
There were no suprises when I first listened to this CD and although this can sometimes be a bad thing, in this case it is very good! When buying this expect the same original Teebone style (including the heavy mystic-style warrior samples) that is loved. It also goes without saying that although every track on the album has a familiar feel Teebone has avoided falling into the dangerous garage producer trap of using the same samples and ending up with the same track that has been tweaked numerous times for an album. Teebone's producing is not the only reason to buy the album, teara-unit's (Maxwell D, Godsgift, Sharky P etc) input compliments Teebone's style, So Solid collabarate to make the track "Best of Your Love" and a couple of female vocal appearances give the album an appeal to the ladies. Some of my favourite tracks on the album are "Warning", the classic "Fly Bi" Remix and the laid-back "Make It True". The only disappointing track is "Super S" that features MC Skibadee whose lyrics are more suited to Drum'n'Bass; stick to what you're good at mate! A must for real garage-heads.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very interesting a must for serious Japanese learners., 21 Aug. 2001
I am still fairly near the start of the book but this book has made learning Kanji fun and as easy as it can be. I am still only 15 but have had no trouble remembering characters. Part 1 of the book has 8 characters on each page showing the stroke order, the on and kun readings, compounds, english meaning and when possible gives you an easy way to remember the character. Part two contains much more info about radicals etc. Well worth the money...
