1.0 out of 5 stars Disapointed!, 7 Dec 2011
This review is from: Art of Chill 5 - Bent (Audio CD)
What a disapointment really! A very bland & boring double CD! Nothing as i expected specially coming from Bent. Nothing from their nice work nor catchy vocals...Trying to let it grow on me, yet finding it quite monotonous & dull. Not an album recommended to chill out with but more to bore the listener really!

Dub Side Of The Moon
Dub Side Of The Moon

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic quality rework of a classic work., 16 Aug 2011
This is a great album that demonstrates how a timeless classic like the "Dark side of the moon" can be so versatile & delivers musical & lyrical excellence in all shapes and forms. This is thanks to the ingenuity of Easy Star All Stars who managed to produce a complex album, rich in details all executed seamlessly with perfect sound quality.

The music is smooth and spacey yet psychedelic with deep dub bass lines that delivers a changing reggae sound with a great underlying dynamic & rich sound layers. You only appreciate the depth of this album with a good set of headphones that capture the rich sound details.

Their interpretation of the tracks and the elaborate textures of sound and details in many of the tracks is impressive, for instance "TIME" and "the Great Gig in the sky" are seamless. With great material to work with, Easy Star not only reworked the Dark side of the moon, but also added some originality to the score with good tracks like the Rasta man scene, a very dubby reggae tune that just adds quality & lightness to the album. This is definitely a 5 stars album. Big it up for Easy Star All-Stars. Much respect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended, 21 July 2011
This review is from: First Light (Audio CD)
You cannot resist the beats & help but liking this album.
It's one of these feel good albums that put a smile on one's face. Right from the start, it's very easy on the ear & convincing to replay again & again. The tunes & melodies flow smoothly with many good diverse vocals. Their reggae varies from lounge to groovy, dub & soul... Just ever changing tempo in a subtle skillful way. The whole album flows smoothly with special tracks like "One likkle draw" which is an amazingly funny song. A good tribute to a Ganja farmer & great performance by Junior Jazz and Daddy Lion Chandell! Track 6 too: Easy now star has great lyrics.

Not only the tribute albums were great, clearly Easy star all-stars have their own good original music. This is the first original work i listen to & it's very distinct & full of great ideas. Good mix of songs & with 14 good tracks, it's surely a great buy.

Easy stars... real pleasure listening to this!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's all about the music!, 26 Mar 2011
This review is from: Black Sands (Audio CD)
This album is simply brilliant. It starts as a little jazzy ambient & gradually moves on with a light electronic feel to it then subtly changes the mood again to light instrumental with very touchy & sexy vocals. It's truly like a smooth ride with different grooves from every track yet they all fit nicely together. In some of the tracks you can feel & see the band playing the piece in the studio. It got a live instrumental & rough organic feel to it. Raw understated control of the tunes & notes.

My favourite is surely track number 9 - The Keeper (Featuring Andreya Triana). Sensational voice & a slight hiss that needs good speakers to grasp its mellow whisper.
This must be one of the best albums that have a complete all rounded smooth feel to it. I'm enjoying it immensely!

2.0 out of 5 stars Tuneless monotonous, 23 Mar 2011
This review is from: The Circle (Audio CD)
I wonder why i felt a bit reluctant to pick up this CD till finally i decided to get it as Bon Jovi's history is still intimate to me & their fired performances & delivery gave me many good moments in the past. Well the answer was in the CD itself... Nothing like Bon Jovi but a tuneless whining recollection of recycled tunes & bridges with unnecessary over excited naive lyrics! This album fails to engage, even after playing it several times. Listening to it again & again actually made me more critical of it. How could Bon Jovi do this to their fans? Or have they lost their flare after all these years. May be it's time to call it a day & let the cycle of life continues. No need to milk it to the last drop as it's really gone ugly now... I wouldnt even classify this album as Rock nor Pop - just lost in between... And to add to that, the "yeah yeah" fest & "shalala yeah" surely didn't make the tunes any better.

Timeless down-tempo chillout. CDM has always delivered good quality mixes & after almost 10 years of having their albums, i never get tired or bored of playing the CD. These are previously released vol. 7 & 8 that are lumped together in a double bill CD. Same material for a bargain price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good material & informative but..., 17 Mar 2011
The show is good & got good material however the narrator is too imposing & his voice is too intrusive in the commentary. It would've been better to get rid of him all together & let the scientists do the talk or get a more appealing voice to narrate. Also every episode is crammed with material that could've made 2 hours show instead of 1 hr. I guess he producer wanted to have everything in there while editing hours of useful material in the studio. In natural history documentaries, sometimes "Less is more".

Also every episode is made of 4-5 chunks that don't necessarily fit in together... I think it's made this way for TV ads breaks. However when watched as one set, it doesn't flow smoothly & fit naturally with the previous scene. In summary it's got good material but the execution of the programme could've been better. And also closer to the end of every episode it gets more like a marathon trying to keep up with the narrator's voice.

This is a very nice collection of the truly best of Enigma. As an old fan, not only the tracks brought me back into the originality of Enigma, but also CD2 has very strong connection to the electronic beat world of the late 00's. Very powerful mixes & real raw Enigma as how it all started.

5.0 out of 5 stars BREATH TAKING, 14 Mar 2011

This is one of the most fascinating natural life documentaries i've ever watched. It's simply breathtaking & so elegantly made. The camera & framing is flawless with some original soundtrack that compliments it nicely. I have to admit the music can be a bit over powering but in the totality of the scenes, it's easily morphed visually. I definitely recommend this film for adults & kids as well.
