The Masterpiece of Polanski's Tess, 13 Jan 2001
This film is one of the only adaptations I have ever seen which actually sticks faithfully to the original text of the book throughout. This makes Tess a gripping film.
The film follows one womans journey through life and sees her many misfortunes as a victim of "cruel fate" - a hallmark of Hardy's novels.
Nattassia Kinski as Tess is excellent. She portrays the role with such accuracy. The speech, the manner and her presence are all exactly as in the book.
The other characters come accross in an equally excellent manner.
Be prepared to sit in for a while with this film, it is long. However, the story is so gripping and that twinned with the literary depth of the text makes it a MUST SEE!!!
