Enchantment's Edge: 1
Enchantment's Edge: 1
by Philip Williamson
Edition: Paperback
Price: £5.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad read, 19 July 2011
This review is from: Enchantment's Edge: 1 (Paperback)
This is a rather old-fashioned tale of fantasy, but quite readable. Put it this way, I shall certainly track down Vol. 2!!

The House at Riverton
The House at Riverton
by Kate Morton
Edition: Paperback
Price: £6.29

2.0 out of 5 stars Too long, 14 Dec. 2010
This review is from: The House at Riverton (Paperback)
I've struggled to the half-way point in this book and find I simply don't care what happens to the characters. They are all a bit two-dimensional for a start and the gothic undertones of presentiment get tedious. Moving on gratefully to something else...

1.0 out of 5 stars Dull, 13 Sept. 2010
The 'story' seems to be just so much military posing: arranging battle lines etc etc. Not having read any previous books in the series, it took quite a while to get the hang of what was happening. Gave up a quarter of the way thu...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent box of tricks, 26 July 2010
I bought this to have by my bedside - mainly as a CD player. It is compact and has excellent sound. Better still, the cable supplied means I can also play my MP3 player through it if I wish.

For the price, I think it would be hard to find something better. It also arrived very quickly.

PIRATE: Corsair
PIRATE: Corsair
by Tim Severin
Edition: Paperback
Price: £6.39

4.0 out of 5 stars Good story, 25 Feb. 2010
This review is from: PIRATE: Corsair (Paperback)
Well, I thoroughly enjoyed the story - in spite of those negative reviews! OK, so it's not a full-bloodied, rip-roaring adventure yarn, but I can see he's setting the character up and the story is very entertaining. Am looking forward to 'Buccaneer'...

1.0 out of 5 stars What??, 26 Dec. 2009
This book is impenetrable. Ok, I now realise that it's Book 6 in a series, but any good author ought to be able to welcome a new reader in ANY book of a series. And I am always deeply suspicious of authors who have to resort the the apostraphe to make name interesting. And what names - toungue-tripping... No, this is not a book for me. Or indeed an author.

Medieval Costume and How to Recreate it (Dover Fashion and Costumes)
Medieval Costume and How to Recreate it (Dover Fashion and Costumes)

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent book, 24 Dec. 2009
This is an excellent and intriguing little book. Although written in the thirties, what Miss Hartley has to say is still useful and relevant. The book is well-illustrated with both photos and drawings, but the author does assume the reader had some knowledge of dress-making. This is part of the attraction - you need to use your noddle a bit! I would say a useful addition to the library of anyone interested in historical costume.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good little book, 8 July 2009
This is a good book to read if you are thinking about setting up a B and B. Clearly written and amusing.
My only criticism would be that this book, like a number of others, presents a rather 'standard' model...

A lovely story this - set in 300 years time - it charts the growing affection between two men with great clarity and tenderness.
