5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best, 8 Nov 2002
This review is from: Horatio Nelson (Hardcover)
I've currently got a library's worth of books on Lord Nelson and his navy (now that's an anorak if I ever heard one) but if Tom Pocock published one book a month on the subject I'd still buy it. Why? well simply because he, along with two other distinguished names, has the breadth of knowledge and also the knack of making it accessible to the masses in an easily digestible form. If you are looking for a definitive, acurate and detailed account of Admiral Nelson's life then this is one book you should add to your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Now it makes sense!, 8 Nov 2002
This review is from: Macbeth [VHS] (VHS Tape)
As I'm in the process of studying for an english exam that includes the subject of Macbeth, I thought I'd better see the play so that the words of the illustrious writer could come to life. I'm glad I did, as the play, in words out of a book, can become heavy and lose some impact. Seeing it brought to life with more than acceptable acting and real life scenery made the whole thing make sense. The whole film is true to the original script but not so 'Shakesperian' as to lose meaning. It was also nice to see that Martin Shaw also had a serious side to his acting!

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute must!, 8 Nov 2002
You've heard them say "If you see one film this year.....", well if you are at all interested in the life of Lord Nelson or his navy then listen up.... "If you buy one book this year, make sure it's this one". This book has taken years of painstaking and meticulous research and knowledge to come up with this definitive chronological account of Nelson and the ship's he served in. Not just a bunch of drawings and plans but an intimate look at the workings of the navy at that time and the people involved in the battles fought. It takes pride of place in my collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does exactly what it says on the tin, 23 Oct 2002
I'm studying GCSE English and Macbeth is part of the course. After reading the play for the first time I was still confused about how to explain certain parts in essays etc. This video made everything clear and what was expected in the coursework. It explains the whole play act by act, scene by scene. Although the students and teacher in it are by no means professionals, it certainly worked for me.
