5.0 out of 5 stars Train wreck!, 21 Feb 2014

Love this show but it is sometimes like watching a train wreck in slo-mo. Don't do it Gillian! Nicola Walker outstanding in this season and given the quality of the acting of the rest of the cast that's saying something.

A bit of nostalgia from the eighties with a unnervingly youthful Anthony Andrews and a great supporting cast. Great fun.

This review is from: The Snow Goose (Hardcover)
The delicate, evocative illustrations perfectly match Paul Gallico's poignant tale. A story that always brings a lump to the throat.
A treasure of a book.

So many treasures in this adaptation. Love the depiction of the beast and his lonely presence as Beauty enjoys the castle. There is a lot of subtle humour in this book which adds to the overall enjoyment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Divine, 21 Jan 2013

Absolutely gorgeous. Wonderful text, sumptuous illustrations. An inspired retelling of a classic tale. I've always found the princesses an unsympathetic lot so like the characterisation of the youngest in particular.

An exquisite retelling of the story. My only quibble is I would prefer it to be hardback and the package had been damaged by water that got through to a small corner of the book.

Christmas at Downton Abbey (2011) [DVD]
Christmas at Downton Abbey (2011) [DVD]
Dvd ~ Hugh Bonneville
Price: 4.99

5.0 out of 5 stars God bless us, everyone!, 9 Feb 2012
Downton Abbey has been accused by many of being a soap opera. Well, duh! Yes it is. Unashamedly, unabashedly so and with better production values and acting than you will see in many a so-called "serious" drama. It's a mystery why so many viewers seem determined to knock Downton Abbey for not being an historically accurate, grim documentary with no room for humour or any other human emotion. Surely we have enough of that as we struggle through these difficult times. Television is here to entertain as well as to educate and Downton Abbey does a fine job at providing escapism and pleasure in the improbable. The Christmas special ties up ends left loose at the end of series two, allows the ever-delightful Nigel Havers to indulge in a bit of bounderism and sets the scene for the third series. Plenty of seasonal sentimentality as well as the usual scathing one-liners courtesy of the divine Maggie Smith that make for laugh out loud moments. Everybody is present and/or accounted for and the entire cast seemed to be having as much fun in their roles as this viewer had in watching them.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a rush!, 8 Jan 2012
Over sexed, over violent, implausible totally escapist fun! This series of Strike Back is not for those who are looking for a serious commentary on our troubled times and mature, measured responses to the many problems facing us today. It is for the hard core fans of extreme action and adventure who can stomach the violence, forgive the profanity and enjoy the many, many gratuitous sex scenes. Sit back, disengage brain and enjoy.
