5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulously weird album, 3 Nov. 2014

This review is from: MUSIC FOR INSOMNIACS (Audio CD)
Fabulously weird album, almost psychidelic and reminds me of exeprimental music like the Beatles' Number Nine for the random sound bits thrown in to the mix very beautiful dream like music.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can not stop listening to this, 17 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Opium (MP3 Download)
This is an amazing album, the mix of sounds and styles is inspired, with influences from what sounds like maybe the Doors and then maybe Billy Joel, as well as other 60s and 70s performers, but it never falls into parody or cliché. It's just wonderful music no mater which era it would come from.
I'm sure like most people I discovered Matt Berry through his acting roles, and this album doesn't take itself completly seriously, as his comedy persona seems to come through quite a bit. But the songs are truelly wonderful, the lyrics and melodies are often beautiful and I have not stoped listening to this and his two other albums (WitchHazel and Kill the Wolf) for the past 4 days now, as no other artist seems good enough to compare.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not perfect, 8 Oct. 2012
This device has a good storage capacity and great batery life compared to my previous MP3 player. The only down side is I just find it's a shame that you have to use the Songbird software when uploading music to it. I have found the software frequently crashes and though it claims to sync the files, if you update information in the library on the computer, it does not automaticly update the information on the player as well when it's pluged in, you have to delete the file on the player and upload it all over again. Otherwise it's got a great design, the sound is good and I'm rather proud of it. Hope it last a good amount of time

5.0 out of 5 stars This show is the reason I got into sci fi, 10 May 2012
This TV show will always have a special place in my heart and I am so thrilled it is finaly being released on DVD in the UK. In short I absolutly love this show.
The series follows the journey and settlement of a group called the Eden Project on the Earth-like planet called G889. They believe at first the planet in uninhabited but soon find many creatures already living there, some are peaceful, some a threat. They also face sabotage and conflicting interest within their own team, evident from the moment they crash land on the planet and lose most of their equipment and supplies.
The effects are spectacular for their time, the characters and actors who play them are all great (among them Tim Curry and Terry O'Quinn are chilling villains and Clancy Brown a solid hero), the score was amazing and there are lots of well written plot twists.
This was released on DVD in the states a few years ago with poor bonus features and the episodes in the wrong order. The episodes were put in the order they were aired rather than in the order they should have been shown in (the show might not have slipped in the rating if so many key episodes had not been pulled out because of NBA or NFL games!). I hope this new release will have fixed this error.
Also don't be put off that it only had one season because it was ultimatly cancelled, you don't get stuck with just a frustrating clifhanger and the show does come to a logical (though sad) conclusion.

4.0 out of 5 stars Doctor Who just for fun, 9 Feb. 2009
I am very found of Colin Baker's Doctor Who audioplays and think they are all of superior quality, but you've really got to forget about that when you listen to this.
This still in no way means this is bad, quite the contrary it's great fun to listen to, but you have to remember that it was based on a play that was rather light hearted in the first place. It's obviouly Doctor Who on it's most 'lets make something fun for the kids' level and the plot is therefor not very complicated. I'll admite it does have some tacky songs, but it's also got romance, adventure, space mercenaries, Cybermen and Daleks, so you just can't go wrong really.
It's probably not a story I'd listen to over and over again, but it is worth putting in any Doctor Who collection, especially if, like me, you regret the fact that you couldn't see it on stage in the first place.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool Rock is back!, 20 Nov. 2002
This review is from: Tenacious D (Audio CD)
Finally! A CD has come out with the ability too REALLY Rock your socks off!
Who would think that actor/comedians Jack Black and Kyle Gass had such unknown rock star worthy talent? But they have given new life to the rock scene which was becoming more and more steriotyped and just plain boreing.
Now we have got the return of what rock should be: good sounds and just good fun!
Now JB and KJ may not be the ideal men each women dreams of, but you got to admite they're the coolist guys around on the current rock scene.
In their debut singel "Tribut" they claim: "this isn't the greatest song on earth, this is just a tribute", but there I beg to differ. "Tribut" is the best song I've heard since forever. I taped the video for it, and each time I have guests come to my place, I tell them: "I've got to show you something, tell me what you think of it." I put on the video and every time people are amazed by it's greatness and even want to see it again. That's how powerful these guy's music is.
And of course they're fallowing singel, "Wonderboy" was no disapointment, but a confermation of their musical abilities, just as their whole album is.
JB and KJ; please don't let us hanging for a sequal to this masterpiece of rock music.
