5.0 out of 5 stars Eat well, get fit, and lose weight too if that's your thing, 12 Mar. 2012
This review is from: Escape the Diet Trap (Paperback)
Dr Briffa presents lots of science-based info on why "diets to lose weight", and the usual medical mantra of 'eat less and exercise more', just don't work

And almost in passing has produced a book that seems to me to be excellent on the whole biz of nutrition, plus some stuff on the latest ideas on how much exercise we need to be fit - 3 minutes (per week!!) of High Intensity Intermittent Exercise (there was an Horizon prog on tv about this too, a couple of weeks ago - and the book is much clearer)

It's beautifully written too, inspiring, sensitive, practical, encouraging, full of handy tips and guidance, and very accessible

French Bed & Breakfast (Alastair Sawday's Special Places to Stay)
French Bed & Breakfast (Alastair Sawday's Special Places to Stay)
by Alastair Sawday
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Alastair Sawday's Special Places to stay French B & B's, 24 Oct. 2011
Having just returned from my first ever stay in a French B&B, inspired by this book, I'm very happy to report a great week's holiday near Avignon

Delightful hosts - who even rented us their own (new) car when we discovered a) we really needed a car (we travelled by train from the UK) and b) all car hire firms seem to demand credit cards - we'd managed to bring only debit cards! Their home was a beautifully restored, decorated and modernised ancient house in the centre of town, where we felt very welcome and very comfortable

Why didn't we try French B&B's years and years ago?! The reports in this book, going on our experience are, if anything, erring on the side of caution and restraint; we're confident they can be trusted completely

Now we have a whole book of them to savour!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Depression Cure, 4 Sept. 2010
So far I've only dipped into this book; and I'm very impressed with what I have seen. The author, Steve Ilardi, writes in a clear, jargon-free, welcoming way and comes across as a warm and caring person. He is associate professor of clinical psychology at the University of Kansas and has devoted his career over two decades to researching depression and developing and applying ways to beat it; all within the Psychiatric Department of the Duke Medical Centre

As someone who has had major problems with severe depression, I'm very encouraged by what I've read so far. Now that my rushing about over the summer is slowing down, I'll soon be launching myself into the programme

Watch this space!
